Be gentle, I am getting old. Will take a bit of adjustment coming from bikes. Also have been warned by Maureen that if I am faster than her she may need to trade in the Exige for more horsepower. Neiljhamilton Posted April 12, 2019 Share Posted April 12, 2019 Another one to add to the list....... I have persuaded an old racer friend of mine to come to the event (Marc E.). Old in the sense that we have been race buuies for a long time and he also happens to be old (like me). He will have the lightest 7 at the event. Not because it is a Superlight, but because he will be bringing a 1959 S1 with a 1500 cc Coventry Climax (all aluminium - even the main caps are ally!). I have personally raced this car at a number of events, including the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. That is one of my all time favorite tracks and events. The race is run through Schenley Park. The circuit has everything, there are around 22 turns over the 2.3 mile circuit, elevation changes, crowns on the (what are public) roads, negative camber corners and even hay bails protecting the street signs and traffic light posts! Where else will you see that in this day and age? It is like the Monaco of the U.S to me! Anyway a very nice fast early 7 to add to the variety of cars at the event. The Pittsburgh Vintage GP event is most definitely a race, not parade laps. I was running at 10/10 th's the entire time. I also ran a 1959 Moorland Formula Junior one year (1 of only 1 ever built, but this went on to become the very successful Gemini Formula Junior). I was nose to tail with a Gemini the entire race and the lead changed hands 5 times between us. Hopefully the 200,000 crowd were suitably entertained! Helmets are for sale at the track's amazingly well stocked, well run "general store", as is virtually anything else you need to race, (arm restraints?), oil, Go-Pro, drivers suit etc., etc. Not cheap, but at least available.
