I discovered that I’d gained a little more weight over the past few months than I realized.

Thank you for such a nice report on the Chassis #104 Superstalker. I have been trying to help Bill sell this car even though I have never seen it in person myself. This car was built for the seller's father who passed away about a year ago. the car only has about 1100 miles on it and was never driven hard. I personally know the fabricators that did the final assembly and they are the best. They built my chassis #21 and I could not be happier with their work. They are very professional and honest and have provided Turnkey Stalkers for others in the past. This was most likely the last one they built and did provide some custom options that the original owner wanted.

The car is perfect, altering it would be to dishonor it. I did consider buying it and either modifying the current seat or having a custom seat made. Then I remembered all the occasions where friends of mine have bought something like this and I accused them of heresy when they took a Sawsall or other device to modify or make better something that was perfect to begin with.

 

Nice try but no! A car is perfect when you own it and have made it yours. Its time for you to join my fellow forum members above. Modify the seats - thats part of making it yours. These cars are 'bitsas' - especially Stalkers - which have adopted half the parts catalog from Napa by taking a bit of this and a bit of that. They can be customized any which way. Owners have used all varieties of seats. So now its' time to think big for you.

 

As your literal body double (no joking), I feel more than qualified to bring my vast and considerable bulk...err...experience and knowledge to this problem.

 

The Stalker usually uses the Kirkey seats. These have sides which will munch up about 1-1.5 inches in lateral width from the seat cavity. That makes all the difference. Never been a fan of those seats personally - made out of the same aloominum foil I have in my kitchen. I think the Stalker seat cavity is around 17 inches wide. The Kirkeys slim that down to around 15.5 inches - thats designed for those with anorexia. Not designed for a real man who appreciates a good chicken sandwich and a pint or five of good beer.

 

You have two broad options to get yourself in the drivers seat:

 

Option 1

Use the Caterham or Westfield style of seat. These have no sides instantly getting you back to the full width of the available space. 17 inches wide is the standard seat width in most airlines zoo class section. I can make that and I bet you can too - no lube needed. Those seats look like this:

These are comfortable and work very well. The sides of the seat space will stop you from sliding around.

 

 

Option 2

 

If you are thinking of doing a lot of track work and want something that anchors you a little more firmly then I would suggest the resin bead seat option. I am in the middle of making one right now - refer here - scroll past the Tillet

I am mid way through making one. You trim the foam back neatly, get some professional upholstery and it looks like below.

There are also urethane versions of the kit plus you can get a pro to do one properly instead of a hacker like me.

Ok so you don't like options 1 or 2. So I have an Option 3. A Caterham SV chassis has a seat cavity width of 18inches+. I fit it comfortably. So much so I can even make a Tillet carbon seat (with a side!) fit plus get myself in there comfortably. In my old roadsport, fitted with the Caterham leather seat pictured above, back in 2008 I managed to squeeze 6'8" 320lb Karl in there with leg room to spare. I have even managed to fit a 350lb friend in there to take him out on track - put a dent in the performance admittedly. You would fit fine and there are a few for sale in the price range you are looking at.

 

 

So there you go - your friends on this forum are determined to get you in a car that suits you better than your hairdresser's Miata. This is the best looking Stalker I have seen and it deserves a good new owner. :seeya:

Although I prefer Croc's unedited post (Mike, don't tell me you've actually been swayed by all those HR mandated classes?!) even this version nailed it. If the car doesn't work for you, then it's not perfect and you shouldn't hesitate to make it yours. Let's face it, as nice as it is, no Stalker will ever be invited to participate at Pebble Beach and no one is going to lament it's lack of originality when it shows up on Bring a Trailer in 30 years. We aren't caretakers, we're owners. Embrace that reality and modify it to to your heart's content.

You mean those times I’ve been in Secaucus when you came over, had dinner with me....and encouraged me? Are those the times to which you are referring? If so, then yes....guilty as charged.:jester:

Come on John. Classes? You know I am smarter than the average 300 pound bear. I easily avoided that. However, my little evil HR minions I inherited are slowly and insidiously turning my mind to the dark side. I am now being sensitive to the feelings of deviant alternative sexual persuasions - I have never been polite to attorneys before! And I thought being an actuary corrupted me. I no longer call chicks chicks. Alas, I am turning into an HR flunkey. So yes I edited my post to exclude 4 letter words, as I was sensitive to hurting the feelings of Spiffy or whatever his profile pronounces to. He could be an emotionally sensitive teetotal vegan in Texas driving a Prius. So all kidding aside :D....

Did I miss a price ?

 

I used to weigh 265 and one day got sick and tired of looking in the mirror.

Went on a Keto diet and lost 70 lbs in about 7 or 8 months.

Now I'm exercising but only to add strength not to lose weight.

Weight loss come from diet control.

The way I figure it I eat about 1 hr per day max. The other 23 you pay for it.

Although the beer went I switched to Scotch and water.

Some sacrifices are too much to endure ;)

Not heard if it sold or not?

 

I heard a price through the grapevine and it sounded reasonable (plus negotiable) for how good this car is based on the assessment by some very experienced forum members who are personally familiar with the car. Get in contact - you could have a new toy for when we are allowed out of the house.

I talked to the gentleman selling this car early on. He was gracious and communicative, and sent me a number of pix. The car is very well assembled and looks great. The problem is this: It is essentially an old-style Brunton V6 chassis equipped with a honking LS V8 motor and Tremec trans. This old-school chassis is equipped with outboard front shocks and a solid rear axle, and does not feature those aerodynamic F1-style inboard front coilovers which are so delightfully adjustable. It does not feature the modern IRS design including excellent Cadillac diff that Brunton developed in the early 2010's. It is a transition model between the supercharged V6 Bruntons with the hood scoop (the original model) and the current LWB V8 model. At the time, the gentleman's asking price was equivalent to the market value of a used latest-gen Brunton, and that is why I broke off communications. All of that said, the car, like all the earlier V6 Bruntons, is very capable, and with the V8, very fast. Hoever, due to the old-style chassis, and relative to the new car, performance will suffer over broken or bumpy roads and at high speeds. The car is also an SWB design. I like the Brunton SWB's because they look more authentic - more Sevenesque. But they do not handle as well as the LWB Bruntons, and thus are less popular among Brunton cognoscenti.

Not looking to hijack but just to add a word of caution, as an owner of a set of Intetrim seat (shipped over at great experience) the craftsmanship on these seats (well mine) is crap

The seats look great in the photos but what a hack job on the finished product if I was in the UK I would have refused these on delivery.

Okay guys... Sold. I finally broke down and bought it. After seeing it back in February.. and being "harassed" by the local mob here.. I couldn't stop thinking about it. Lost 10lbs and called the owner and we worked a deal. Working on getting it shipped to North Texas (hopefully before Thanksgiving).

 

For those of you on here... any suggestions on adding a windshield wiper "system" to this..? Texas has a "safety" inspection with registration and one of the points is operation of the windshield wipers. I'm not sure if one of the those "manual" wiper systems or the single motor type, either from an ATV would suffice. Thoughts...?

Do you need wipers? Can you take the windscreen off and say it is an aeroscreen car? no wipers needed. Its a really lazy idea but saves time.
