Four cars into a three car bay.

The SO wanted to do a quick photoshoot of us stuffing four cars into a West coast sized three car garage (ie. ~680sq ft).

 

Before I attempted to do so, jotted down some widths and lengths of the cars we'd attempt to shuffle in there. Spot the 7.

 

All in imperial measurements, Length x Width. This is from the front most piece of the car, to the rearmost. Width was measure from outside edge of the rear wheels -- mirrors don't count.

 

196" x 73" - 2014 Mercedes Benz E63S Wagon

168" x 67" - 1984 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2

163" x 70" - 2007 Noble M400

144" x 68" - 2006 Mini Cooper S

135" x 62" - 1984 Suzuki Samurai Hardtop (to the spare wheel)

127" x 69" - 2002 Superformance S1

 

Hilariously, every single one of our cars would fit in the same space as the Mercedes.

Surprisingly, the Superformance is a very wide car. Wider than most 7s, I think...and nearly six FEET shorter than the Mercedes.

Basically, the Mercedes is massive, the S1 isn't.

 

Ultimately, we figured we could stuff the Porsche, Mini, Noble, and 7 into the garage with room to spare. The Samurai could have replaced the Porsche or the Noble for even more room.

 

 

Things you do on a slow Sunday to avoid doing housework.

24x24 garage I had in PA several years ago:

Birkin across the back

ERA 289FIA Cobra in the upper left hand side of two car garage

94 Laguna Blue Miata "R" in the middle

69 GT 500 Shelby (or wife's subaru ) on the right

Add in the usual tool box, snow blower bicycles, etc and I could still get in and out of all four and drive at least 3 of them out of the two 8 foot doors with no jockeying.

 

With a little finesse, and wheel dollies, I could have put another Caterham or Cobra replica inside

This was the normal for my shop a few years ago. All have been sold off except the red Miata and the Baby 7. The Lava Orange Miata on the far right was rocking a 480 HP LS3 conversion from Flyin Miata.

 

We did stuff 6 Miatas in there once just to see if we could.

Sorry, no pics for proof, but back in the 60's, I was driving a Berkeley to work each day, I kept it in my 1 car garage, along with my Corvair coupe, my enduro bike and my lawnmower.

I pulled the Berkeley into the left front corner at an angle, got out, then lifted the rear end against the left wall. The Berkeley had a FWD 500cc Exlcelsior motorcycle engine, and only weighed 700 pounds, so it was not a big effort. The bike and the lawnmower were in the right front corner, and the Corvair filled the rest of the garage.

For when I used to get snow flurries that buried the 5.0L Miata in the driveway less than 1.5 hours after our winding 11 day road trip back from Florida 6+ years ago where we stumbled across our new home on the way back. :rofl:

That would seem to be a very unique combination of cars. Unbelievably, I know someone else who owns a Samurai, an M400, and an S1.

I imagine british car owners are a special group and I would not be surprised by us owners having very similar tastes.

I once had a 1 car garage into which I fitted two Caterhams and one 1965 Mustang. I used those rolling jacks under the wheels to move the Caterhams into their optimum position.

 

But I also put 9 sevens and 1 Mustang and 1 Holden into my current garage and still had enough room to fit 2 more sevens had they been needing it.

A second look at the picture and I see a bit of orange showing on the back side of the RF wheel so that pretty much confirms it was my car.

Hey Skip. As you suspect, that is the ex-scannon Caterham. It was there at a USA7's event, along with a bunch of other se7ens for which Croc graciously provided over night shelter.

Gemini Lift. It was made in Texas. I believe that the business has changed ownership and it is not the same any more.
