Imagine how expensive a Caterham would be if it contained many custom parts? Using of the shelf parts dramatically reduces cost.

Lots of race cars used the Triumph spindle, Including early 60s formula one cars. I have played with a lot of Formula Fords and similar cars. Very common for them to use that spindle.

Spindle is now a custom AP part, as of 2015.

 

It's important to note that *all* car manufacturers utilize an outsourced supply-chain, as it is less profitable to maintain the design/implementation resources in-house. Most of those custom Titan and AP parts were specifically designed for Caterham, to their specifications.

 

Pop quiz and a gold star to the one who correctly identifies the interchange on the CSR rear brake caliper (Croc - give them a chance).

I took my first 7 to Arch to get a lowered floor fitted.  I was slightly perturbed when they jacked the car up on a forklift truck to work on the underside :classic_ohmy:

Anyone know which car the anti roll bar /sway bar rubber bushes come from? they have a tr1616 14 stamped on them. I was thinking triumph? but that's just a guess.

Oh I'd love to see an answer to that as well. Mine are pretty destroyed from aging. I have a pending order from CCparts for a replacement.

Also, I recently replaced the tie rod ends with Triumph spitfire tie rod ends. I'm sure it's probably old news to many but i'll post for record anyway- I'm new to the platform and figuring alot of things out along the way.

No luck finding it in a Rover Metro so far. Searched by part and engine bay pictures. 

 

The CAP appears to be a match for a Mini among other things. Does anybody know what OEM cap with the right spring  pressure cross references to?

It was a Rover 200/400.  This was the POS car that donated most of its parts to a Caterham after a ford.  If in doubt default to a Rover 200 part search.

You saw off the legs.  In case you doubt me here is a post from Blatchat - refer post #4 from Roger ("ECR")

Freelander Expansion Tank - Dimensions | Lotus Seven Club (lotus7.club)

 

I would also look at post #10 as an option for a different shape expansion tank as you can then use the current round Freelander bottle.

 

I would look for a Rover 200/400/216/416 cap.   For the cap, it likely was also used on a Mini.  Rover/MG Group made Minis late in the original form's life.  Caterham still sell the caps for your car - its on their parts site - but Rimmer Brothers will be cheaper.

The parking brake self adjusters on the Mk2 Golf rear brake calipers are notoriously problematic.  The tip in the VW community is to replace them with the Mk4 aluminum rear calipers, 1J0615424 and 1J0615423.  They bolt right up, but the brake line routing is slightly different.  Mk4 calipers also use a banjo bolt fitting, instead of a thread in fitting.  I could never get the Mk4 brake calipers to work on my Mk2 because the banjo bolt fitting trapped the caliper mounting bolt.  Meaning, you'd have to disconnect the lines to replace the pads.  Maybe the mounting/routing is different on a Caterham so the lighter Mk4 calipers with improved parking brake self-adjusters would work on a Caterham?

GTI, sometimes replacement hoses with metal sections of steel tubing are slightly bent. Assuming the hose is mounted the right way round with the lip around the edge of the caliper body, fully tighten the caliper to the upright and the banjo to spec, then tap the metal crimp sleeve with a hammer handle a few times so it just touches the caliper body below the caliper mounting bolt.
