Vovchandr Posted November 18, 2025 Posted November 18, 2025 Post and describe your trailer setup 18X7.5 aluminum trailer, towed by XC90 Current interior setup. Still a few things pending to go in such as front cabinet and paint
CBuff Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 Wait. You’re supposed to put it in a trailer? No one told me. 2
JB455 Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 My current truck and trailer- a little overkill for a Seven! F-250 and 20' deck, 10K pound rated trailer. I couldn't even tell it was on there. More likely to be towing on of my Pontiac muscle car to the drag strip.... or my Kioti backhoe. I used to have an enclosed for the cars, but at 28' it was longer than I needed and was tough in tight locations, so I sold it, intending to buy a 24'. Then trailer prices skyrocketed during covid... and I haven't really needed it.
Marek Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 Previous rig. Honda Ridgeline and Featherlight 3110-17'6" with brakes. A nice trailer, but definitely not light. We were trailering all sorts of cars at the time and the 5000# capacity was handy. You could feel the trailer behind the Ridgeline and the V8 4Runner we used, but never a real problem. New trailer. Worthington 14' deck, single axle with brakes. 2990# capacity. Much more manageable. Tows easily behind the Ridgeline and a ML350. 1
BlakeJ Posted November 19, 2025 Posted November 19, 2025 1997 Trailex 7031. 715lbs, plus the spare tire and holder; <800lbs. Surge brakes on all 4 wheels. I like the security of the 2nd axle, but wouldn’t have been against a single axle trailer if this hadn’t turned up on Racing Junk when I first needed it. 1

Vovchandr Posted November 20, 2025 Author Posted November 20, 2025 I'd be a lot more open to an idea of an open trailer if our cars came with tops and doors. That element helped push things into decision of enclosed. With that said enclosed also get used as extra storage and utility off season as needed.
Xhilr8n Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 Anyone have one of those cool clam like deals that opens forward?
Croc Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 Personally I think a trailer is over-rated. I decided a garage at a race track was far more practical and gave far better gas mileage. Only downside is everyone rocks up and empties my beer, wine, and soda fridges. Aerodynamically, clearly the garage is far less efficient than a trailer. 4
Croc Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 @bball7754 Steve - Do you have a photo of your trailer and the name of the manufacturer who makes it. Still think that is the best lightweight se7en trailer with lots of flexibility and openings for access.
Taber10 Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 I think that I am seeing Skip Cannon's old Seven --blue with the "neon" orange wheels--prominently featured in your garage. I still miss that guy, even after he moved on to Corvettes and BMWs as he couldn't physically handle the Seven anymore.

Yes its Skip's old Miata drivetrain Caterham now owned by Dermot in the DC area.
BirkinBernie Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 (edited) I found a minimalist trailer for a minimalist car. It is an Aluma brand trailer, and weighs less than 500 lbs. It is very easy to move around for storage, and with low deck height it is handy for general utility stuff. Tows great, and the light weight brings it well within my Crown Vic's towing capacity rating. I found aluminum ramps on Ebay and fabricated brackets to mount them on the deck. Happy Motoring! Vovchandr Posted November 20, 2025 Author Posted November 20, 2025 Didn't think I'd be in such minority so far with an enclosed @FE07 join in
FE07 Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 So I have a diesel Cayenne (bought with 90K miles and 2 yrs of CPO) and pull a Thule trailer. It's 16' box and 4' V nose. All aluminum. Not sure what it weighs. The Cayenne pulls it like its not there. Fits mutiple smaller cars but the gate is a little steep so hard to get in cars with large front overhangs. I used to have a set up like Blakes with a Trailex. When I started racing formula cars I went to the enclosed trailer. Found the trailer close to me also on Racing Junk. Jim 1
CBuff Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 I was debating something like this. I think someone on here had this set up. https://alumaklm.com/products/utility/single-heavy-axle/7814s-tilt-trailer/

Coming up on 10 years, I think, that I’ve owned it. Built by Montrose Trailers in Michigan. Weighs around 1800 lbs. Originally towed with a Volvo XC60, and now by a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Originally purchased for my Seven, but the Mallock fits just as well. Steve 1 1 1
Xhilr8n Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 Yep that’s it, Montrose. Knew a fellow who had a wrap of his car on the sides.

For light & low cars, a tilt deck is so much nicer than using ramps.
