Well after 2 long years and hundreds of hours of work, my 1982 Series 3 moved under its' own power today. Last time this car saw the road was in the mid 1990's when its previous owner started to rebuild/restore it. So here is its first photo. Now for a few more minor parts then off the VDOT to get the plates. The Superlight rims and tires are being mounted and will be on this week!! http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/241047912_DSCN0543.JPG

The smile was big, the feeling you get inside is impossible to describe. I does take a lot of will-power and determination when you run into problems. Keeping the faith that it will be finally assembled helps a lot. And of course, the encouragement from the members of this group go a long way. Sal

Congrats Sal,

Nice looking car! Love the clams, BRG paint, bench seat, and it's RHD too! I noticed the cutout in the hood, what kind of induction/carbs are you running?

Car looks great. Funny thing our old Caterhams....

Would you be looking to offset the cost of your new SL rimas and tires by parting with those in the picture? I seem to be going for the vintage look as of late... I also am sending a PM

Thanks to all of you for the kind words. I hope to join you for a blat sometime soon.

Bruce,

It's got the factory twin DCOE 40 Webers with the original air filters. I guess I'm somewhat of a purist as I like to return everything to the original factory delivered vehicle. Being RHD should prove to be interesting around here. Northern VA traffic is a nightmire!

Car is fully documented from the initial contact at Caterham in the UK until it was delivered into the US. Driven daily back then and has 98,700 miles on the odometer--that might be a record! The only thing i dont have is a set of seatbelts. Would like to go to 5 point but Caterham did not add in the attachment points over your shoulder in the middle of the car. I am building a 1700 Super Sprint engine now and hope to have it completed in a couple months. I also have the cycle fenders for it.

I took the 7 to the car show in downtown Fredericksburg, VA yesterday. It was judged against, MG's, Austin Healy's,etc and ended up taking 2nd place. It was a huge draw since few people had ever seen one. Yes, I got the "Is this a kit car?" question along with the "Can you drive it on the steet?" You just smile and try to educate them as best as you can. Several folks from the UK knew what it was right away and tolds stories of owning one. Even had one gent that raced one on weekends. Talking to fellow "RKI's" is cool.
