OK, Its Time to Come OUT of the (Miata) Closet

It seems like there are a lot of people on this forum who have or have owned a Miata so its time to fess up - who owns(ed) a Miata? Time to come out of the Miata closet. :D

I own a '92 Sunburst Yellow Miata with many modifications. It recently dyno'd at 279 RWHP and 264 torque. I have owned 28 Miatas so far. I expect to own more in the future.

My Caterham has a Miata engine and transmission.

I also have a 92 Sunburst Yellow Miata with many modifications. It only dynos 219 at the rear wheels. I'm building a Westfield SEiW with a 99 Miata donor. I've only owned 1 Miata (2 I guess, counting the donor).

The best part of owning a turbo Miata is surprising people with much more expensive (and supposedly faster) cars. They look so startled!

'91 Miata with a bunch of suspension and safety upgrades, but stock engine. Handles and brakes great, but the only car I've surprised at a stoplight was a Prius, and truth be told, I don't think she realized we were racing.

I just sold my 11th Miata last week, because I bought a Miata-powered Locost. 240whp on a Mustang dyno should be enough to keep me interested.

I started with my first in 2000 and averaged about 1 Miata per year since then.

i've had a 93 black and tan for almost 12 years. Flyin Miata free flow catalyst and Borla exhaust makes it sound fast even if its not, Boss Frog frame rails , Cobalt seatbelt tower brace and DIY Randall type cowl intake and a few Moss Motors doodads. Engine is stock, I missed the boat on the Jackson Racing superchargers which would have been just enough HP for what I am looking for.

I have had 45 cars and most of the toys among them have only lasted 18 months at my house, but the 96 Miata in beautiful Montego Blue lasted 2.5 years. Of course not even a light bulb burnt out. Most reliable non offensive transportation sports car appliance out there. It was almost so well fitted to driving that it was invisible. Only reason I sold the appliance it was that its perfection and performance were boring. So, I got an M3, which changed my outlook on life. When I finally got the M3 to a track I found out what German engineering was all about and discovered the car's true personality. I didn't get that feeling from the Miata. As far as permagrin is concerned, I've had three second gen Mini Cooper S's, one with John Cooper Works. I wish Miatas had that same smile factor. Again, the M3 is the drool queen for most Mini owners on their forums, so I got the permagrin and the temporary Viagra injection when I step on the pedal from the Bimmer. The weekend driver is the 7 and there simply is no better overall sports car experience than the 7.

Maybe they need to make a masculine and feminine version of the Miata. One with haunches and more growl in the grille with a turbocharger. Sorta like having a regular and an S version like Mini does. I really think the vanilla and S version of the Miata would be a great marketing move for Mazda.

Had a '93 and a '94 R package (for 10 years), sold for an EvoVIII, then Caterham, then added an '08 BMW M3.

Unlike Ruad, I was not smitten w/my 414 hp M3. Sure, it was incredible at the track. But it had so much wasted capacity on the street. So I sold it for a more practical daily driver, a VW Touareg TDI. A vehicle I love and can get 35 mpg cruising at 73 mph. It tows my new Birkin in my new enclosed trailer at 70 mph (you can afford a lot of car stuff when you are not paying for a M3). I averaged 85 mph towing the trailer over one deserted stretch for 2 hours (and got 10 mpg).

I ordered my first Miata in Oct of 1989, and picked it up on 12 Jan 1990. In Feb of 1991, I traded it in on a BRG "Limited Edition" because of the leather interior. I still have that one, and I'm not considering myself in the Miata "closet" but the Caterham is more fun to drive! The Miata was purchased in Florida, and has lived in Louisiana, Virginia, North Carolina and New Mexico, but now has been returned to Florida.

Owned a 1994 Miata but eventually sold it a year later as it was not the most practical car in Maine. I replaced it with a Subaru Legacy Outback wagon which probably makes me a lesbian...

I have a Miata, and had an Outback wagon, and I like women. I guess I'm a lesbian too!

I have a Montego Blue '96. Drivetrain is stock, with Flyin' Miata stage 2 suspension kit. Skip arranged the purchase for me last spring, and I absolutely love this car. There is a turbo kit somewhere in the future, but there are other more important things first - roll bar, replace the "cute" airhorn with something scary and attention getting.

Now that is funny and I have to say that my wife and I have a 1996 Miata (1.8ltr. Black and Tan touring, 157642 miles and counting) and a 2000 Outback (driven the least since moving back to Calif.) and seven other vehicles between the two of us (yes I know I am a car nut) and that the Miata gets driven more than all the others vehicles just because it works ever time and is fun to drive even if it is not the fastest vehicle in our possession nor is it the slowest.

I have a 1990 1.6 with 55K miles that I have owned for 3 years. I added a turbo and the usual suspension upgrades and braces. But not it's being prepped for sale, so I have taken off all the cool parts. I still have the car, turbo, and Megasquirt setup for sale. It is a great car to own and work on and with the massive parts and accessories available you can mod them on the cheap. The CMC that replaced it is you guessed it Miata powered.

You know there was already another thread for this, right? Search for "Getting in touch with my feminine side". If you "people" keep starting new threads for those damn cars the public might think this site has a bunch of fairies in it.

Time to go clean my gun or chop a tree down or something manly.
