Europa Trivia bit:

"Europa goes to America,

With the cars selling well in the UK and Europe, the lucrative US market was then considered. One of the problems with selling the car in the US was the styling of the car meant that the headlamps were too low. The innovative solution to this was to invert the front wishbones when constructing the car. The car then met US regulations and owners could revert the installation at their leisure. Ultimately Federal Authorities caught onto this ruse and the styling of the front wings was eventually raised to accommodate the higher headlamps required. This redesign meant that the Federal car was given a new Type number: Type 65."

This looks nice too,

I never knew how delicate looking the frame work looked on the Elan.

And a Jagston Martin,

For the second link in the post above what looks to be a nice Lotus Elan, I strongly recommend thoroughly checking out the dealer offering it for sale by googling its name and complaints. They have a certain reputation around this region...

Now as to the breadvan...yum!:)

Nice looking cars. Especially the Elan and Europa.

The Aston/Jag not so much. It's not totally safe to admit on this forum that I prefer my cars "real". I would rather have an Aston or a Jag than that car. Nice looking work though.

I have had 2 Europas. 1970 S2 and a 1974 Twin Cam Special 5 speed. Power and handling is better on the newer ones but I prefer the more reclined seating position on the older ones. Will definately buy another Europa in the future!

Boy that brings back memories. I had one exactly like that, except the wheels. I also remember going up I5 sweating that if something broke I was in the middle of nowhere..

Did a complete redo on it. Rebuilt motor with sidedraft webers, new electrical, paint, interior etc.. I was finding it harder and harder to get it smogged (running out of guys that would "get it to pass"). Finally sold it to some guy who took it back with him to Japan.

Here's the one I'm working on with a fellow 7 owner. Its his car, and one of the earlier ones. It was wrecked a lot in racing so it was far far from pristine. It has been modified a bit. Notice the front fenders have been widened out, and it has haunches on the back that modify the belt line. The little lights have been moved in the front, also. Its running a ZX3 and has upgraded suspension. The plan is to paint it dark blue with some silver stripes in the spring. These pictures are of the car when it had its first epoxy primer coats.

Automoda,

Is that a Banks Europa replacement body on your friend's car?

At one time, I has a wild idea of building up a Banks Europa with Porsche 944 Turbo power.

That bod/chassis-powertrain match would definitely have been one of a kind.....

I save some photos of a beautiful Banks Europa with VX power (200 hp) that was on eBay, from Texas, in 2006. The seller wanted $29,500. This is what my dream Europa would look like....

Alaskossie:

Those are very tempting photos. The idea of a semi-reliable Europa is very appealing, especially with that car's power and other spec. I am suffering from cabin fever and photos like that arent helping:)!

No the car I'm working on is an actual Europa. I was against adding the funny little scoop and fuel filler next to the window, but in retrospect I guess it wasnt that bad. I had other ideas for putting a vent back there that'd actually work and help the car's looks, but I was vetoed. I wanted to fix the front top corner of the door frame where it looks all saggy from some angles, but I was also vetoed on that. And I wanted to put better deck vents on it than those four ovals. Buzzzz. He wants it to still be a Europa despite the modifications to the nose and fenders.

One of these days I'll have Lee come on here and post a build thread on it. Its using a ZX3 just like his Birkin and I expect it to be very reliable. He's done a lot of nice things to the suspension in the rear, too.
