mrmustang
On the BAT car, one has to assume that it has a hidden reserve since it is not specifically stated as a "no reserve" auction. 22K would indeed be a bargain. If I had the indoor storage space, I'd be in the running.
hollywood2311
I too was curious about the title. If it were wrecked while racing, insurance was probably not involved, correct? I was hoping that it stays well below $20k
Twerd68
"Discreet" is lost on me. I'd be there in a flash if I could sell my Saleen Mustang. Nice car but I regret buying it instead of what I really wanted: a fast seven. If anyone knows someone in the market for a SC Mustang let me know. Croc
I too was curious about the title. If it were wrecked while racing, insurance was probably not involved, correct? Although there are at least 2 companies that insure race cars in races in the US now - I don't think it was insured given the vehicle and the likely race it was in. So lack of insurance would be my guess, a self-funded repair, and would explain a title that (I infer) is still clean instead of salvage. On the BAT car, one has to assume that it has a hidden reserve since it is not specifically stated as a "no reserve" auction. 22K would indeed be a bargain. :iagree: I would guess the reserve is somewhere around $25k. The BAT auction format has fallen flat with me in the last 4-6 weeks. There have been a few instances of BAT not facilitating the auction properly, sellers bailing out, unanswered questions which sellers dodge and the outrage over what I will generously call the 'gray market' BMW from 2 weeks back. In their rush to monetize their website I think they are damaging their biggest asset - their credibility.
Croc
And the Caterham on BAT went for $25k and change which seems slightly low to fair since the past accident, no matter how well repaired, would always have a value impact. Just don't hit anything hard with the front suspension or you'll have lower suspension arms through your ankles!! Maybe I shouldn't go out in the garage right now and look at the bottom of the front A arms on the caterham Have a great day off tomorrow everyone. Only warning is not about the car, but the seller, who is known to shill his own auctions. Car itself was clean, and well built when I saw it three years ago. If I had not had the Birkin (69 Shelby, 4 miatas, two Cobra replicas, and an 80's Mustang convertible) at the time, I might have bought it on the spot. I suspect the car will get magically bid up to 25-28K the last day, but will not meet the hidden reserve Bill S.
Croc
Thanks Bill. I thought it was the same despite the change/wrap of the front cycle wings. I now recognize the seller profile ID. With 6 days to run the $15700 is very strong for bidding this early on. I cannot see how this would be worth north of $25k - call it $22-23k at most. Ian7
Hmmm ... for $50k, buy both of these, swap engines, and sell the resulting Crossflow S4 ... but for how much ... ?
Croc
Ian - the thought occurred to me 2 months back on a separate car combined with the S4. It could work as lets conservatively say the S4 now crossflowed sells for $16-17k as it needs a repaint (GM pearlescent white? Probably not the best Lotus color). That means just to break even the newly BDR'ed Caterham would need to be worth around $33-34k. Maybe a smidgen too high but achievable with patience and the right buyer. however, you then have to allow for sales tax to register, transport costs and some possible uncertainty around the BDR (discussion earlier in this thread). I would do it differently. Buy the S4, put in a cross flow, sell BDR separately. Sell the S4 at say $16-17k or maybe $20k after investing in a quality BRG respray and then the BDR could be sold standalone for say $10-12k Similar upside in dollars but less invested cash and with less risk to my mind. Ian7
Thx croc, but in my non-sensible mind I was thinking keep the BDR Caterham for myself, selling the xflowS4 to offset the cost :-)

Croc
Yep and thats Ron's phone number too. To add on that car: - it rolled down the old Cat USA "production line" in Denver immediately after mine. http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/Colorado%20April%202011/DSC_5410_edited-1.jpg - I recall he was using well-regarded local lotus mechanic (Ralph at RS Motorsports) to do all his maintenance work. - I don't know why but its exhaust note is unique among Caterhams and is truly thrilling - the owner loves his speed  http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a354/mjohnson555/seats/CSR/2011-08-10_09-12-07_429.jpg Edited September 6, 2016 by Croc

mca
I'll post the text of ad for reference. I'm having trouble posting pictures here, so follow the link to see those. For sale is a 2007 Locost 7 powered by a Yamaha R1 Motorcycle engine. $14,000 You can reference my post at the end of the For Sale ad here: http://locostusa.com/forums/viewtopi...12308&start=15 The car is based on a CMC frame that has been extensively modified for both safety and performance. The chassis has the dimensions of the original “book” Locost design. Below is a list of features on the car: -2003 R1 Engine (160HP Fuel Injection) -6-speed Sequential Gearbox (Bike Transmission) -Toyota 10-Bolt Rear End with TRD Limited Slip (3.31:1 Gear) -GAZ Coilovers and Eibach Springs -Wilwood Calipers Front and Rear -Twin Master Cylinders w/Cockpit Bias Adjuster -Full Roll Cage -Kirkey Race Seats and 5-Point Harnesses -JAZ 8 gallon Custom Fuel Cell -Two Sets of Wheels This car was built by hand over the course of several years. Both the front and rear suspensions were redesigned and built to work with the components used. The entire build was documented from start to finish here: http://www.underwood-racing.com/project_seven.htm The “Construction” tab has all the build details. You can also read about the development of the car and see videos of it in action. The car was built to be a track/autocross car specifically, and is not street legal. It could be made that way with some additional lighting and wiring. I have completed most of the California SB100 process. BAR Smog Exemption is complete, CHP VIN verficiation is complete, and Brake and Lamp inspection is left to complete. It has been a great track car, the previous owner has competed in several time trial events in the Southeast, as well as participating in the very first Grassroots Motorsports Ultimate Track Car Challenge. It even earned the SPU class championship with the Tarheel Sports Car Club in 2008. Since I've taken ownership in December 2011 it has seen 12 HPDE track days in Southern California. It is fast, easy to drive, easy to maintain, and very easy on consumable parts. For additional information please email to aleevw(at)gmail(dot)com. Serious inquiries only, please. Thanks for looking. All taxes paid and now it has a Florida clear title with the car. It is fitted with a 2.0 litre pinto engine which is the type engine used in hill climb racing. It meets European Hill Climb standards and was used by the previous owner in Hill climbs races all around the UK. The car could be converted to LHD easily but who will want to do that. It is more cooler to have a REAL RHD car from the UK The car is In Aluminium with some parts in Fiberglass to meet racing standards. It is sold as is with no top as it is used to be carried to racetrack in enclosed racing trailer. http://www.usa7s.net/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=11690&stc=1 The rear boot cover is likely a rear diffuser turned upside down.
