Hi brother.

Yes it would.

I think the Alfa will stay but not sure about the Seven.

I do have someone coming over to look from BaT who lives here part time so you never know!

Thanks for the well wishes Jim.

I hope you are well.

Once the cars are sold we will be ready to leave ....so very excited!

Aloha!

Your car and mine both came in together through Moto / Tex Motor Works that year.  I might even have a picture of it then.

Dick Brink was THE MAN!

Mine went through there too but in 1995.

This is the car that Time Machines sold earlier this year, correct? It was to new and too expensive for me then, however would I be able to afford it now with the extra 5% buyers fee and shipping from Arizona? Well,  perhaps if someone was willing to store it in the Buffalo area for 6 months of the year it could then come visit Canada the other six. Ya, that might work. Now to figure out how to come up with the cash... Where's that head scratch emoji?

While we could arrange storage, this will not work. Canada doesn't allow a Canadian citizen to enter Canada with a US registered car unless it is a rental with a copy of the rental agreement. An employee of Transport Canada tried to drive his non-conforming car that he keeps in a winter home in the US and was refused entry. Sounds like a good idea, but doesn't work.

Interesting fuel filler door in the boot floor on that one. Cap is drilled/vented so I expect  no vent pipe to prevent leakage cornering on a full tank but that could be remedied.

Older 1980s Caterhams had it that way.  It is easier to fill the car as the neck up and out the rear basket seen on later cars does tend to present filling issues.  Gives you more luggage room in the boot too as the fuel filler neck is not present.   I guess this was the "classic" spec kit as its quite a late model year to seen with this feature?

Vent seems to be just a breather hole in the fuel cap?  Fixable as you say.

My 1995 car has that filler door and cap. It has a fuel cell though; that car does not appear to have one. My cap is unvented; there is a specific vent port on the RF corner of the cell. Leakage during cornering on my car is not a big issue as there is a ball valve at the vent; however the buildup of fumes inside a tightly built garage was an issue. I would imagine that car may have add similar "character" to the workshop aroma.

Mahalo Jim.

The Alfa sold yesterday to a guy who came to see the Cat!!!!

Lovely man who has several classics.

The Caterham auction ends Friday so we will see what happens.

I would love for it to stay in this state. Actually I would love to take it with us but our new home really is not conducive to owning a Seven.

But whoever buys it is getting a very special Seven. Not too many like this in original condition with these super low miles!

Going to take it for a last drive today to make some videos for BaT.

Aloha!

These 7s were imported by Texas Motor Works for thier Corinthian Racing Club.  They were mimimalist race specific orders, usually the Scholarship "Classic" race spec with fuel bladders, areo screens, Ital axle and Escort Sport 4 spd boxes on the last of the new crossflow engines available anywhere.

These were bare bones long cockpits with the uprated front top wishbone, but little else.

In my opinion, these were the cheapest Caterhams offered at the time, but they were closer to an original Lotus 7 than the rest of the lineup. This was Graham Nearn's sawn song, giving the people what they wanted, a simple seven to race.

Some odd ball items with the Hemmings seven. What's with the rear fenders extending past the body? Did they have to move the rear end back to accommodate the Elan suspension? I've never seen front fenders like those. They list a VIN but do not show the plate. Why the cut out in the dash?

With regards the fuel filler. I have never had any issues with this. No aromas in the garage. No leaking or overflowing. And it does give extra space in the "trunk" and no staining on the back from over filling!

As regards this configuration. This was called a US Race but it does not match the description that @IamScotticus gave above.

Mahalo for all the input and info.

@theDreamerThat TC rear arch treatment looks like this car may have started life as a French Super Martin.  Oversized trailer rear fenders, IRS rear, chopped clams, Crossflow, and faux S1 nose to follow.

A car an engineer got ahold of for his bright idea projects outlet.  it doesn't usually end well.

That's what was going on at TMW at the time, it was very active with 7s (The Super Seven Challenge Series) and a few other things.  Your car may well have been on a different purchase.  As for my car, a SDKLLKRGSS, It came with that same fuel cell, I still have the cover.  box is long gone as the tank was replaced with a std road tank.  I had to buid my car up to road spec with wind screen, seats, wipers, etc.  I suspect someone did the same with your car.

Very interesting. Many thanks for the back story mate.

Yes I think you are correct with the way this one came about.

I spoke to the guys at TMW and it sounded like this one was a special build.

Aloha!

I agree overflow can be avoided. How it is utilized makes a difference. Refueling station tanks are typically in the ground and a cold environment. Fuel expands as it warms so topping off before putting into a garage leaves it no where to go but the garage floor. On motorcycles where the filler is more or less flush with the top of the tank, there is a "stand pipe" or collar in the neck that prevents pumping too much into the tank. The small hole to the side of the filler neck is slow to allow air to escape above the collar to slow filling greatly. If there is no standpipe, filling to no less than an inch from the tank top will leave some room for light slosh and expansion.

The ‘62 “Lotus” in Hemmings looks like a home built special. Everything about it is off; the body surrounding the rear wheel arches is totally weird, ditto the roll bar.  The gauges on the dash are round, but they don’t look like those in a ‘62 and their placement is very different. Plus the name Lotus” is plastered everywhere, which is what non-lotus folks do. Finally, there is no manufacturer’s plate shown. And, even if there were, I still would have lots of questions.
