Slonie Posted March 19 Posted March 19 FWIW the seller said: we took it on trade from a local client who bought something else and needed the space. It is a blast. Whatever the reason, that's gotta be a record for a BaT relisting (at least, after a successful sale)

If the friend wins the auction then the seller reimburses the friend for the 5% and moves the car on to the next sales/auction site.) I’ve seen several cars sell on BaT only to show up for sale later by the same owner. BaT doesn’t care as long as they get both their seller’s and buyer’s fees. There is a well-known Lotus Europa in California that sold on BaT but then was relisted on Marketplace by the same guy. Same goes for certain Corvair Spyder that sold on BaT but then was relisted locally by the same person. I’ve also seen bidders who keep bumping up the bids but then there is some problem when they have the winning bid. They disappear or come up with some story why they cannot finalize the sale.

Doesn't BaT pre-load the fee on your first bid? Is it possible to back that out with "some story?" In order to get it back some very elaborate stories have been told, I’m sure. You’ll notice many of the accounts are new or nearly new with no history. In one case I have personal knowledge of the winning bidder’s account that he won on was created Oct. 2019. The first time he used the account for anything was Nov. 2023. I’m sure there are some scammers that have multiple accounts going back several years but never used them. Seems strange that a person would create a BaT account but then never use it, never ask a question, make a comment, or place a bid, right? Edited March 19 by theDreamer Correction

Seems strange that a person would create a BaT account but then never use it, never ask a question, make a comment, or place a bid, right? I have multiple accounts on BAT fitting that description. It helps when bidding to hide your past bidding history and any commenting history - its a strategy - bidding tempo technique is a thing. It also stops the peanut gallery here (not mentioning names but lets call them SlowasVov, SlowMuppet, CBoofhead, Coveredinwhitefluff, etc) from criticising my eclectic choice of cars I bid on or questioning why I am bidding on yet another Caterham. I can think of another person on USA7s who does similar so his wife will not work out where yet another car arrived in the garage from and cannot check the price paid. I would not call myself a scammer. I would use, intelligent, good looking, handsome, talented, well traveled, well endowed, monumentally damaged credit card, etc.... 2 7

I know people that have done this on BAT. This was my first thought when I saw it back so soon, but... Current dealer is 6 1/2 hours south of the dealer from the previous listing. So, maybe legit sale? Maybe the new buyer got it home and didn't like something about it? Maybe driveline vibrations from the funny angles on the drive shaft? Maybe didn't like the high strung Hayabusa engine? I guess we'll never know. Seven ownership only appeals to a very small percentage of the population. Bike engined Sevens appeal to a very small percentage of Seven owners. 2
dsscats Posted March 20 Posted March 20 The buyer of the car in the last auction also has 27 previous bids on cars from the selling dealer w/ no buys...wondering if this is an account of an employee/owner there who bought it for inventory 1

theDreamer Posted Sunday at 07:10 PM Posted Sunday at 07:10 PM (edited) Caterham (note: Not in USA despite being noted as PA) https://www.facebook.com/share/17GMwh2j9V/ Interesting, this car is still being advertised in Great Britain. https://www.pistonheads.com/buy/listing/20029201 I would take it that like all his other offerings he is just speculating with no actual monies involved until he hooks a buyer. He has been successful if you can believe his Facebook Marketplace 5 star rating. However, I have to wonder about the legalities of "stealing" someone's ad info and re posting it as if it is your own ad. Honestly, if someone wants to buy a Caterham (or any vehicle) from the UK I’d suggest they do their own due diligence and leg work. They’ll get a better feel for the vehicle talking directly to the seller. They will be able to negotiate the price without going through a middle man plus, they’ll save themselves thousands of dollars in Alex Suydan’s fees for service. Slonie Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Apologies if Croc already posted it because I’m reasonably sure he did but… guess who’s back? https://www.barrett-jackson.com/2026-palm-beach/docket/vehicle/1964-lotus-seven-series-2-297 Yes it’s that one that keeps popping up. Yes its still in the list under Lotus7/Caterham with listings by Bullet Motorsport in Hemmings and FacePlant. Asking $22K on FB. Odd choice for Barrett Jackson? Not really their market although the alcohol ego infused bidding is a major feature.
