It is easier to fill the car as the neck up and out the rear basket seen on later cars does tend to present filling issues. Gives you more luggage room in the boot too as the fuel filler neck is not present. I guess this was the "classic" spec kit as its quite a late model year to seen with this feature? My cap is unvented; there is a specific vent port on the RF corner of the cell. Leakage during cornering on my car is not a big issue as there is a ball valve at the vent; however the buildup of fumes inside a tightly built garage was an issue. The Caterham auction ends Friday so we will see what happens. I would love for it to stay in this state. Actually I would love to take it with us but our new home really is not conducive to owning a Seven. But whoever buys it is getting a very special Seven. Not too many like this in original condition with these super low miles! Going to take it for a last drive today to make some videos for BaT. They were mimimalist race specific orders, usually the Scholarship "Classic" race spec with fuel bladders, areo screens, Ital axle and Escort Sport 4 spd boxes on the last of the new crossflow engines available anywhere. These were bare bones long cockpits with the uprated front top wishbone, but little else. In my opinion, these were the cheapest Caterhams offered at the time, but they were closer to an original Lotus 7 than the rest of the lineup. Did they have to move the rear end back to accommodate the Elan suspension? I've never seen front fenders like those. They list a VIN but do not show the plate. Why the cut out in the dash? And it does give extra space in the "trunk" and no staining on the back from over filling! As regards this configuration. Oversized trailer rear fenders, IRS rear, chopped clams, Crossflow, and faux S1 nose to follow. A car an engineer got ahold of for his bright idea projects outlet. it doesn't usually end well. That's what was going on at TMW at the time, it was very active with 7s (The Super Seven Challenge Series) and a few other things. Your car may well have been on a different purchase. As for my car, a SDKLLKRGSS, It came with that same fuel cell, I still have the cover. box is long gone as the tank was replaced with a std road tank. I had to buid my car up to road spec with wind screen, seats, wipers, etc. I suspect someone did the same with your car. MV8 Posted September 20, 2023 Share Posted September 20, 2023 I agree overflow can be avoided. How it is utilized makes a difference. Refueling station tanks are typically in the ground and a cold environment. Fuel expands as it warms so topping off before putting into a garage leaves it no where to go but the garage floor. On motorcycles where the filler is more or less flush with the top of the tank, there is a "stand pipe" or collar in the neck that prevents pumping too much into the tank. The small hole to the side of the filler neck is slow to allow air to escape above the collar to slow filling greatly. If there is no standpipe, filling to no less than an inch from the tank top will leave some room for light slosh and expansion. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Everything about it is off; the body surrounding the rear wheel arches is totally weird, ditto the roll bar. The gauges on the dash are round, but they don’t look like those in a ‘62 and their placement is very different. Plus the name Lotus” is plastered everywhere, which is what non-lotus folks do.
