  4. One of the interesting features of the Berkeley was that it had a two cycle engine, and for reverse, you turned off the engine, toggled a switch to the starter, and restarted in reverse. Four speeds in reverse too!
  5. I had a Berkeley, a small fiberglass roadster with a 500cc 3 cylinder Excelsior motorcycle engine. It only weighed 700 pounds, so when I drove it into my 1 car garage, I picked up the back end ( front wheel drive), and set it to the side so I could get my Corvair in there, along with my Honda scrambler and my lawnmower.

  8. My Ultralite kit came with an unidentified sensor. I believe it to be the sensor from the Subaru antilock brake system, but that's a guess. I believe almost anything that will provide a pulse will work. I epoxyed a single magnet to the inner CV joint shell, and ran one wire to the speedo, and the other wire to the ground point on the back of the engine block. It works perfectly. You could put two or more magnets on if you wish, you can then calibrate the speedo per the Autometer directions. The sensor has a magnet in it, and a lump of steel in place of the magnet might work as well. These pics show the installation and the common grounding point I created at the rear of the engine block

  11. Times are tough , so hang in there until the economy gets better. After that, do whatever you feel will make you happy and provide an adequate income for your family. After being a design engineer and supervisor for 12 years, I took a big chance, and bought my way into a manufacturing company doing design work. 18 years later we sold the company and I stayed on as president. 11 more years of rapid growth and another sale of the company, and I was doing well and happy, until the new owners decided to mortgage the whole thing and pay themselves a huge dividend. The next step was to "put my shoulder to the wheel, my nose to the grindstone, and work like hell". Well I had done that for 40 years, so I said screw you, and I retired. This month, after 10 years of my retirement, my son started a company, and I'm an investor and general buttboy. I am again working my butt off, and having a great time. We are starting a manufacturing business, based on CNC plasma cut steel parts, and general machining. So if anyone wants some steel shooting targets (our first endeavor) let me know. So take a chance, do something you enjoy, and every day you go to work it's like going to the playground.

  17. The material comes in lots of colors. You do not have to seal the edges, there are no "loose"pieces, it's all extruded as one piece.You can see the corrugations when you look at it parallel to the corrugations. I didn't want to add another color to the car , so I did nothing to the edges. I just realized that I misspelled Coroplast. here is a link to the manufacturer's website http://www.coroplast.com/
  18. I would suggest that you use 1/2"copper tubing for the air. You can solder it in place easier than screwing pipe together. If the code requires silver soldered joints, the solder is available at a welding supply shop, and needs no flux, but you need to use MAPP gas not propane , to get a hotter flame.
  19. I used Cool Mat from JEG'S, placed it between the frame rails, and covered with Cloroplast , the plastic yard sign material that looks like plastic corrugated cardboard. This stuff is super light, and is available at sign or plastic companies. This keeps the passenger side cool, as the exhaust is on the passenger side. I also used it for my floormats. It just lays there, and is not glued or screwed down.

  21. I ran a seperate ground wire to the fan and to the lights, they draw a lot of current.

  23. So far the usa7s forum has been unique in it's high character, lack of name calling, minimum number of fights and put downs, and people seem to be friends. I believe the PRC section may damage that status. Lets leave the "off topic" and Political stuff to the other places on the internet, where they can draw the kind of people who enjoy controversy and irritating their fellow members. Let's continue to discuss Sevens, and avoid pushing each other's Hot Button This type of section can get pretty rough, and it is a constant problem for the moderators, who have their hands full as is.

  25. Al, I love the square wheels, they make one less bump per revolution than the triangular wheels.
