  1. I don't care about Kim Jon-Ils perspective, and I don't care about hypocrisy, I care about an insane dictator having an atomic bomb and missles that can reach us or our allies. Keeping bad guys from having weapons is in our countries best interest, and is logical, as Spock might say. As I was typing this, I came to the conclusion there is no question that you and I are on the opposite sides of the political spectrum, and will likely never agree or aquiesce to each other's viewpoint, so I am dropping the whole matter, before it gets real personal. I have friends (and children)who are exceedingly liberal, so we just don't discuss politics very much. Lets stay friends as members of the Se7ens community, and if we get a chance to meet some time, the first beer is on me.
  2. Mopho, you are correct, I should not have belittled the President. What should he do? I suggest that had we shot down the original missle launch, it would have deterred N Korea, and we would not be in this spot. With the current threats they are making, lets start with a blockade, sieze all current assets in the US, lock up any banking they do, and do everything possible to thwart any actions by N Korea, including shooting down any missile they launch. Also get going on our missle defense system. If we had Star Wars, we could simply say go ahead and launch at us, if you want N Korea to be a smoking cinder. Talk is cheap, it won't work with them. We have been talking for decades. They only respect power that is applied to them. I do however believe that President Obama does not have the will to oppose N Korea, and is basically an appeaser. As Joe Biden said, "he will be tested". And I believe Democrat /Republican is now liberal/liberal lite.
  3. I have a 7 X 14 haulmark with tandem axles, torsion suspension, electric brakes, prodigy controller. While the picture shows on older Tahoe, I now tow with a 2007 Tahoe 4WD. Great combo, but the trailer is xtra tall ( was all they had when I needed one in a hurry), as a result it gets 11mpg. It is handy for moving furniture and plywood sheets when the seven is not in it. If I had to do it all over again I would go with the same set-up as scannon in this link http://www.usa7s.com/vb/showthread.php?t=3721 A V nose low hauler is the perfect trailer for a seven, unless you build a similar, and perhaps lighter one. I believe in keeping the rain off, and being secure for tools , jacks & things. Edit; I forgot to mention that I added a 1000lb weight distributing system which keeps the car level, and greatly aids the stability, particularly when passing a tractor -trailer.
  4. I like it. I would make 3 suggestions. 1) cut the unit in half, and only use one ascending bar of lights. 2) don't use the lower rpm LEDs, no need for a light when you are not pushing hard 3) have a simple pushbotton set-up of the rpms at which the lEDs turn on, as most guys are not computer savvy, and may not be able to do USB interface programming.
  5. Just to stir the pot a bit........... What is Obama going to do about the North Korean a bomb test? Call for a UN resolution that says..... Bad dog, Bad dog, don't do that again?
  6. Don't forget there is lots of oil off our coasts and in Alaska. Yes it's a finite amount, but they keep finding more. I'm all for letting the market work, drive anything you want, and by the time we run out, they will have perfected the batteries needed to operate a "real" electric car. We can recharge them from our nuclear powerplant generated electricity. And yes, we can put the nuclear waste in the facility in Arizona, or shoot it into space, or bury it in my back yard. I would love to receive the income from a nuclear storage facility. YIMBY ( Yes in my back yard) Why do we have suv's? Not because we are fat, but because our lifestyles have changed and we need the room. Room to put multiple kids and their hockey-baseball-tennis-etc gear, along with the baby seats. We have moved to the suburbs, and we have to drive the kids to school and all the various activities. We like to remodel our homes, and need a spacious vehicle to carry lumber and drywall. Some people are hunters, and need to haul their decoys or dogs. Some people fish, and haul their 250hp bass boat with a diesel duallie pick-up. More power to them, if they can afford it. etc. People want room, and don't want the "stigma" of driving a minivan, so I propose we stop trying to change everybodies lifestyle, and rename the vehicles. No more SUV's ( which used to be built on truck chassis, but seldom are now) no more minivans....... we will call them STATION WAGONS!!!! More room than a car, uses a car engine, good gas mileage, not built on a truck chassis, guys can drive them without fear of what their friend think, and it solves the whole problem.
  7. As noted there are a lot of red herrings, so I shall not try to pursue every comment or try to convert everyone to my opinion of the situation. A lot of good, reasoned points have been made, and I cannot argue that I am comfortable with all the treatments of all the prisoners.
  8. It's extreme psychological effects are well demonstrated in the video. Is it torture? For my money, no. Would I want to undergo it, heck no. But the military does this to our own troops so they get a chance to experience it, and understand what is happening to them, just as they put our own troops though tear gas training. Does that mean we torture our troops? The word torture has been thrown around rather carelesly. I don't have a definition, but I believe torture involves physical pain, and damage to the body. Is damage to the psyche torture? possibly, but it takes more than 15 seconds to damage a person psychologically. John McCain underwent tortue. He can't lift his arms because of being hung from ropes in the POW facility, and with good reason is the major proponent of the anti-torture movement....BUT he has said, in the ticking time bomb situation, we must do whatever is necessary. The torture controversy is currently very chic. Remember the use of waterboarding was immediately after 911. When the population is in a particular state of mind, it makes different decisions. For example, swine flu. A trivial flu bug, ( apologies to those who got it or died from it, for them it wasn't trivial) , with the help of the 24 hour news cycle and an administration taking political advantage of the situation, the situation was blown all out of proportion. Spanish flu killed 30,000 people. Swine flu only killed 6, yet the President authorized $1.5 Billion to fight it. In a few weeks it will be forgotten, yet if a politician had stood up and said...Stop this nonsense !!!, his constituents would have lynched him. Things must be taken in context. Retroactively rewriting history only works for a short time, as the truth will out, Nancy Pelosi nonwithstanding.
  9. I wear Scott over -the- glasses goggles. (Motocross goggles) I get alot of air in the face, and these prevent eye watering, dirt in the eyes, rocks and pebbles from hitting you etc. Pretty comfortable, great protection, and I found by putting black tape across the top half of the lens, they work like the bill of a cap, keeping the sun and sky glare out of your eyes. Another good feature, the lenses are replaceable, and are available in many colors.
  10. Mine is supposed to be 240 hp at the flywheel (stock Honda S2000 engine)
  11. Sorry, but this week I had to cancel my trip to LOG 29. Sue & I won't be there, but hope to make the next LOG or USA7's gathering. I haven't even started my se7en this year, I hope to find time in the next week or so.
  12. West7se: Welcome to the forum. as stated befor, no matter where you are, or what you drive if it's a se7en we love it. Your car is exceptionally neat and clean, it is refreshing to see an engine compartment without all the emissions junk they force on us these days.
  13. I'm now on Frapper
  14. That is good news. I have suspected that with the light weight of an ultralite, the teflon lined rod ends would hold up OK, but I just wasn't sure. Your good experience with them is reassuring, and the seal route I took was a bit of a pain, because I had to find rod ends that were thinner to make room for the seals.
  15. I replaced the heim joints in the rear of my Ultralite. I did not feel any bad handling effects but there were a few "clanks" on the bumps. I guess you should expect that on a car with no rubber bushings in the suspension, but it was winter, and I needed to do SOMETHING to the car to feel like I was working on a Seven. The road dirt can cause some wear of the joints, but I could not really feel the wear. I did not replace any front end links. I am not disputing EvilRomeO's selection, and I hope that he gets good life, and reports back to same to us, but I was scared off the teflon lined joints by the tech guy at QA1. QA1 recommends their XM rod ends, with the kevlar reinforced teflon races for longest life, and recommends against plain teflon rod ends because they "pound out" in rough use applications. However, as Brian has noted on the Ultralite forum, the XM rod ends do not have enough angular misalingment travel to be used on an Ultralite. I had noted this when examining the QA1 catalog, the misalignment is about half the ability of a plain rod end. Also, the moly rod ends that Brian uses have a very high load rating. So, my selection was to use the QA1 PCM series moly rod ends, and to add Heim Seals on each side of each of them. This to hold in some grease, and to keep out the road dirt. I got these seals from Speedway Motors pn 910-01504 and 910-01503. $84 The rod ends I got from QA1, (10) PCML8-10 ($89), (6) PCMR8-10 $53, and (4) PCMR10 $36. Note that the original rod ends from Brian are wider than the rod ends from QA1, and there is NO room to put seals on the original rod ends, you need a narrower rod end to allow room for the seals. In the install process, I removed the vertical bolt for the forward lower traverse rod link, and mounted the link to the upper frame mounting point. This had been reported to reduce bump steer. In order to duplicate the length of the links, I used a large caliper from Cummings (Harbor Freight Tools has them at about $20). I jammed it into the old link, locked it in place, removed the old rod ends, then installed the new ones (with anti-seize), and adjusted them to the same length as the caliper, so as not to mess up the aligment(much). I realigned, and was all set to go.
  16. I have the Nology, which only has 4 led's. The first two are green, the third is yellow, and the last is red. They are bright enough in the daylight, and I have them situated to shine in my eyes. Since the sound of the engine is the first clue, I don't mind having only four lights. When you aren't really getting on it, there are no lights to distract you, and when you are getting on it, they do serve to give you the shift points. I have the red one set close to the torque peak at about 8600 or 8700, which is a few hundred or so rpm below the rev limiter at 9000.
  17. I corresponded with Chad during his S2k build, and visited his home to see the progress just before his first start-up. I was blown away by the quality of the build. Chad added all the stuff you could wish for, like the classy carbon fiber bits, and the fuel cell installation with the pump in it's own well to avoid any fuel starvation on long turns. Chad is a meticulous builder, making sure that everything is perfect before moving to the next step. I thought that my S2k was pretty nice, but it pales in comparison to the workmanship on Chad's. The paint on this car is a spectacular metallic finish, and the pictures just don't do it justice. The full coverage paint shield should keep it looking great for years of road or track time. Checkout the shot of the rear end and suspension. The candy apple red axles, gold suspension bars, and shiny black diff and u-joints is definitely cool. Whoever gets this car is going to have the finest WMC Ultralite S2k that I have ever seen.:D
  18. I cinch up the seat belts, and if going on some twisty roads, I, like slngsht, tell the passenger to cross their arms and grab the shoulder belts. The dash is too far to reach for a grab handle.
  19. I didn't realize that you had to pay the VAT. When I bought things in the UK, I saved receipts and got a VAT refund.. Also do you have to pay the duties, or are they in the price?
  20. I agree, I learned the "side of the foot" technique, and it seems a lot easier.
  21. They are cool, but many track events require Snell ratings for car helmets not motorcycle helmets ( fireproof ratings)
  22. You don't get too much of a choice in driving position in a Seven, but like slngsht says it should be rather close to the wheel, with elbows bent. I spent 3 days at the Bragg Smith Driving school, and they had us right up on the wheel, so your shoulders could do the work, not an extended arm. Look at the NASCAR guys, the wheel is almost in their chest.
  23. My golf clubs fit very well in the passenger seat and footwell.
  24. I also put a set or rev lites on the dash. They work great, and don't require that you realy "look" at them, and the ECU based rev limiter is a great back-up. My tach and speedo are in the middle, ( don't look at them often) but my water temp and oil pressure gauges are right in front of me.
  25. I used a 12 mil thick 3M film from http://www.xpel.com on the rear fenders. It has been a very sturdy and chip resistant protection. You can hear big rocks hitting the fenders but no paint dings.
