Let us remember, when the 7 was penned in 1956 (it was the wife's idea), the concept of door-less open cockpit, open wheel with the spare on the boot driving had already been antiquated by thirty years with perhaps the TC being the holdout. And the Morgan. The Elite, and the Elan following that, were Chapman's saloon market priority. But I'm comparing 7s to normal cars, which I shouldn't do. Most people don't care what's under the skin. Then so can replacing SPAX or GAZ when they wear, which may be frequently if you do the miles. I think the best thing to do for the LA is to lighen it up. So I suggest, if you're not exceeded 150hp on grippy tyres, cut off the torque plate to shave pounds. 5 lbs?

14 years later.... A lot has changed at Redline since the last post. Establishing an internet shopping site is one. Still working on getting photos up and the descriptions can be lacking detail. The inventory probably turns over too fast to keep photos of everything. But at least you can shop Chris' inventory; what is on line probably isn't half of it. What is different here, is not the usual click, shopping basket, and pay. What is done here is as you click on items, they are added to an inquiry. You can ask questions on the inqury page, to get clarifications if needed or provide your shipping addresss. Then Chris will reply to the inquiry. You will get an E-mail notification of his response. This may be an answer to a question or a total cost estimate. At some point there will be a link to purchase the order. This sends you to a payment site to use the CC. Over the last two days I placed an order which went smoothly. It took 2 days because I had questions about a product. I had a shipping notification within 2 hours of finalizing the purchase. Which was about 1pm UK time. I received the order in five days in perfect condition via FedEx.

All the racetech mechanicals, like the one pictured, use capillaries. W How to those work for temperature reads? wouldn't the temps cool off or heat up in the tubes?

hmmm... There's a LHD 4 to 1 primaries for sale. Should I? on a 1600? Funny thing is, I already have the can for it. Other news, QD steering kit is coming along. Racetech steering and gauges, it will be, going forward. Why? Racetech has 80mm and 52mm gauges. The speedo is GPS and sensor compatible. Bye-bye speedo cable. And they don't look cheap.

Id like to say, that Chris Mintoft at Redline has had his share of communication gaps. I know. BUT! I would say his situations tend to change and he is able to entertain USA orders. I have heard from USA customers that have had excellent service from Chris. I would give him a chance. If he does respond, you have to keep on him, politely.

is it not typical for a dry sump scavenge to pull enough volume from the bottom end, that not much outward venting occurs on the top end?

I was experiencing cut-off on sharp rights in my DCOE shallow wet sump electric pump Xflow. I didn't get it resolved before I stopped driving. Thought it might be bowl level flooding, starving, or oil pressure. The turns were so brief, like low speed into a driveway, I ruled out the tank. Sure, I could be sucking air, but, at those speeds, surely the pump would have refilled the line? These 7s....always something

I do realize that Lotus 7 S 1&2 typically had red pannels and seats. But the black Caterhams have since outnumbered them. I can understand an homage and I love those red leather Springalls. I know a source for those early Lotus center caps.

I think the Momo wheel you have is perfect. Not colorful, but then 7 cockpit typically haven't been colorful. Your two-tone tunnel cover is an exception. I looked around but didn't find much in 3 bolt. The 70mm 6 bolt is much more ubiquitous. Perhaps a 3-6 bolt adapter? It would space the wheel back a bit. Is it safe? I don't know. If that's the wheel you like, it's a very personal thing that adds something to the car you have a connection with. It's a personal touch. Id keep it. Don't leave it in the car when you go in to Hombre Depot.
