  1. The newer X model may be plug and play on the old harness and connector. Ask and check the installation doc for differences. Can always upgrade, buy a spare, and sell the complete old system. The Ford EDIS had a built-in limp home mode timing curve. Don't know about this one. Might ask them about that as well.
  2. Lubricate all those spherical bearings (8). They all must rotate in the housings. Also make the housings lay flat when torquing the jamb nuts (housings should not be allowed to rotate to touch the nut/bolt head when torquing the jamb nuts), and lubricate the return springs (3, with one on two of the itbs). No need to add extra springs/pedal effort.
  3. That is an "American Racing" wheel for a Triumph Spitfire/GT6. The model is the "Vector". Also fitted to the "General Lee" from the original "Dukes of Hazzard" tv show. Like a possum on a gumbush, but I digress....
  4. Do a "Cars and Coffee" or car show in Ellijay or Dahlonega and ask around for competent local support. Running out of fuel can ruin a fuel pump but I would not change it prematurely. This may improve the fuel gauge accuracy:
  5. Nice kit! Thanks for sharing the build.
  6. Looks like that turned into an offer to build a frame based on the various plans. They should build and show one that actually follows one of the designs instead of their first effort that did not follow any.
  7. No way, San Jose! That is perfect! Finger spasm must have added an extra zero to the price.
  8. I don't see any coolant issue. Green is readily available and the orielly's is one of the best green coolants. In switching to the recommended coolant, you may create one. A switch involves thorough flushing with water; not just pouring out one then pouring in the other. That is too cool. First thing to do is determine if the thermostat is installed and working properly.
  9. In closing (this thread hijack), I would be sure to document the current timing settings (near zero or retarded initial?) before changing anything. It is normal to build for a lower CR that allows optimized timing without detonation/run-on or excess overlap. Merry Christmas.
  10. If you want to run typical E10 pump gas, I hope he bent the "rules" a bit with the testing (temporary truck high cca battery, very hot motor, oiled cyl) and/or the weather and altitude was favorable. I've never tested an engine where every cyl was the same psi. Not really important at this point but just discussing. If it is really that high and you want to do some touring, you can adjust the cam timing for more overlap or slip in a standard thickness head gasket.
  11. The abs ring doesn't touch anything. You could remove it but it is not worth the hassle to pull the hub. I guess you are referring to a hydraulic parking brake which isn't needed when you could do the same with a line lock spliced into the rear brake line from the master cylinder. I expect the initial difficulty rolling after sitting for years was from rust on the rotors and sticking calipers.
  12. Looks like an abs ring.
  13. Also, the shaft spacers to replace springs do a much better job at reducing oil leaks so more oil gets to where it can do the most good.
  14. The NA seats hurt my back also. I don't think they were made for six footers. I removed the center backrest insert (it is a separate piece) and removed the hog rings holding the lower cover to access the bottom cushion, to cut off a lump across the bottom cupped by the steel frame. The result was I sat much lower and more comfortably. I sat low enough to use the armrest instead of the top of the door, and I could see out of the windshield much better. I had left over hog rings and the pliers from Mr. Mikes leather seats for the fiero. I also have an NB which is a better fit. I put 2000 protege seats in the 323 (not a direct bolt-in without fab and welding) which has a lot of room under the hood for service.
  15. Trim the baffle if that is what is holding the pan off the block. Do not use the bolts to try and close the gap or extra rtv to fill the gap. A 1/4" straight/not tapered rotary file in a drill can provide enough slotting for the bolt holes to align. After the pan has been modded for no gap at the block (without the gasket or bolts), add a fastener less than fully finger tight, one at a time going back and forth from side to side, until you cannot add anymore. scratch or mark the side of the remaining holes that need slotting and SLIGHTLY increase the other holes (that had fasteners) with a drill bit.
  16. Not everything, at least not yet. I bought my wife a '14 Mazda 2/Demio 5spd that is basically a newer version of my '93 323 5spd. Very basic and the schematics are good.
  17. I enjoy supporting members with electrical diagnosis, but to my knowledge, no schematics have been published by Cat or openly shared by their dealers since about 2014 (a ten year vacuum of support for second owners who have a "right to repair"). Feel free to provide schematics to me via private messaging. I will not post the schematic or share the source.
  18. Whomever you purchased the trans from should have provided documentation on service and the loom. I'm guessing Mooresville, NC? I expect there to be one or two pins on the existing reverse switch on the cat six speed. If two, I expect one pin of the connector is grounded through the harness. Verify. On the new sadev harness, using a meter set to ohms, probe from the reverse light switch connector to each wire until you find near zero resistance. Verify with the documentation you will receive from the Sadev Dealer. Let me know what you find (#pins old switch, #pins new switch, grounding, color code to rev sw existing harness, color code to rev sw of new sadev harness). You could also leave the harness off for now and have no gear position or automatic reverse lights.
  19. 5# density foam is expensive and not commonly found locally. Joann's lists a "high density" airtex foam which is slightly higher density (1.6#) than standard furniture foam, but it is not dense enough at two inches of thickness. Automotive foams are much denser than furniture foam. You could cut a yoga mat to sit against the base with the airtex on top and it should be ok. A better option is to use a thick/heavy duty yoga mat base with a thinner airtex foam. These options make your seat like a variable rate spring. The "yoga" foam is also used for sleeping bag pads and stadium cushions but the most cost effective source is a yoga mat. https://www.joann.com/p/airtex-2in-x-24in-high-density-foam-sheet/2180289.html
  20. There is: https://www.furysportscars.com/ Uses the Lotus Elan windshield.
  21. Tim, here is one way to independent adjust ability with a bench.
  22. May not be a Birkin or Cat part. You will need to figure out what you have. You could also repair what you have and paint. 23. Doesn't need to be a plastic hose. You can flare steel or nicopp line then bend to fit, or use an appropriate length, pre-made AGS line with inverted flare ends and fittings and but ignore the fittings and use hose clamps.
  24. It looks like buckets but it is actually a one-piece bench. Just an idea on how creative it can be. Original type CAT bench upholstery kit is also available. There is a link on this site somewhere if interested. Then your local shop just needs to make the backing and cut the foam.
  25. Here is an example of what a good upholstery shop can do:
