Do you have a half hood for your Caterham?
slowdude replied to Saudio's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I have a soft bits half hood. Love it as it is super easy to use vs the full roof. -
Importing Caterham Engine From England

Did Dave put solid lifters in? That engine is going to scream -
Importing Caterham Engine From England
slowdude replied to Sjwarden's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I spoke with Dave extensively when doing my car. His preference is all in the work done to the head. If you can find a bigger valve that he has ported and polished, with the right internals it will transform the car. To convert a k series to duratec, you need to cut a hole in the side of the car -
Parts arent too bad for this engine. I have a small stockpile of spare parts up here (sensors, filters) etc. Holler if you need anything.

Importing Caterham Engine From England
slowdude replied to Sjwarden's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Is it a DVA engine or other seemingly built engine? Idk if its worth the price of the engine (been looking for a while, 5k or so), plus shipping, plus tariffs. I'd imagine it would be something like 5k for the engine (i'm seeing 3k GBP for a newly built one), 1k for shipping, then tariffs (I think its up to 100% now???), youre spending 11k on the engine. Why not just replace the block and build what you have? I had my K series rebuilt and the parts were much cheaper than going nuts. NEW Stronger K Series Engine Block | EliseParts -

I dont think this vehicle is necessarily meant to be a daily driver. There are other vehicles for that. Tons of them, that do that job better than this car ever will. This is the second car, for the wealthy tech nerd who already has one ev. I don't see them having significant volume to ever see scale to sell a vehicle en mass to be a daily. We are left with the canyon car, or the weekend trip. Most BEVs aren't driven far enough to warrant the 400 mile range everyone is looking for. BEVs are driven fairly normally. Your 30 to 100 mile daily round trip commute and then plugged in at home. Most BEVs taken on road trips (where you would argue you need a longer range due to the mileage), are on the east coast. Specifically the snowbird route from NYC to south Florida. Thats about 2 days of driving, with optimized fast charging for lunch etc. These vehicles will not be doing regular, 1200 mile trips down the east coast. NACS + access to the Tesla network makes this type of trip significantly less daunting. Range anxiety is an issue and always will be, but the majority of second, sporty car BEV owners will use it as intended, weekend jaunts, plug it in for a sandwich and then drive back. BEVs have been on my mind a lot lately, as you can tell.

New Sales Model - Caterham in the USA
slowdude replied to BruceBe's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Thank you for the write up & the transparency. It speaks to your authenticity as a person to take the time to do this. With your statements above, for example, the cheapest new 7 in the US would come in around $72k usd. Not unreasonable. The MSRP transparency should help. Would be even better if there could be a financing arrangement with Caterham. No need for any support, just a, "we work with this bank" -> cashflow seems to be the largest issue (hence the FX rate hedging you were mentioning). All in all this is a positive change, which I hope grows the brand in the US more. -
Help picking a tow vehicle and trailer for my Caterham
slowdude replied to savagete2860's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I am only laughing at this because I read the first sentence in your voice. I'm sad to see this, but more happy the car did its job and you and your passenger are safe. If you want to take the plunge on a german vehicle of a specific brand, I can help you out. (It won't be as good as your trusty tahoe). -
WANTED: Fuel tank for Caterham S3 DeDion fuel injection.
slowdude replied to pethier's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
@pethier, does it make sense to look into a fuel cell? Might have a better chance stateside finding something than shipping and paying a ton in taxes. -
typical statement for a recovering moose knuckle addict. body is beautiful however, and the custom work done yourself must put a big smile on your face.

Help picking a tow vehicle and trailer for my Caterham
slowdude replied to savagete2860's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Gotta take muffler off on the car, or put 2 x4s down to adjust angle. Apparently uhaul is moving away from those trailers though. -
263, but I think I cracked 52k miles on the car. Next year!

If they are their own insurer, prices will remain the same or go up, but their spread on the insurance products will go up?

Congratulations on the new ride!

Help picking a tow vehicle and trailer for my Caterham
slowdude replied to savagete2860's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I use an overpriced tiguan (macan) and a uhaul trailer. The macan can handle 4k, and with the car and the uhaul trailer, it was fine. Two hours and some highway driving, the 4cyl pulled fine at 75mph. I guess what I am trying to say is that any modern, compact SUV with a 4k rating should be more than enough. Most Americans do not need f150s etc to tow these things, look at Europe, they tow these with station wagons. Since you cant store a trailer, perhaps realistically looking at how many track days you go to a year vs getting a uhaul is more cost effective. Figure a new trailer is $6,000, plus insurance and storage in your case. A uhaul trailer for me for a weekend was $90. That is something like 65 track day weekends to break even on your 6k trailer purchase, not including your monthly storage. -
I use alpinestars moto stuff. I just picked up a tech air offroad system that I love. That being said, the lower cost alpinestars stuff has definitely gone down hill in quality. Theyre not the company they were 10-15 years ago. I dont know if id invest in their car gear. I have wide feet, so having a narrow shoe helps a lot in these cars. Given pricing, $400 is your money to burn. I glady pay for quality, but its not there at that price. Me personally, I wear SFI rated pilotis I bought on sale for $50. Theyre running a black friday deal too, where you can get some good driving shoes for under $100. https://piloti.com/products/cruise-black-red

https://necksgen.com/ Figured id pass this along for anyone who is looking for a Hans device for their track days. Hint hint, NJMP requires this for their track days.
