  1. I suggest that the national event committee of USA7s consider have a formal agreement between themselves and the organizers of LOG 31. There is strength (and better prices) in numbers. Some events could be shared and some separate. USA7s could solicit participation and sponsorship from such as Birkin, Westfield, Caterham and etc. LOG 29 was a shared event with the Mercedes club. Each club had separate events that focused on their unique interests and events in common. The Talladega lapping and Drivers Education events were shared (and maybe some other events such as the autocross). The receptions and car shows were kept separate. Of course Lotus and Mercedes Benz are vastly different cars that attract different personality types. It is sometimes easier to get along with strangers than brothers.
  2. So at LOG 31 will there be a shuttle bus between the Red Rock Hotel and the Mustang Ranch?
  3. I did hear of some people being unfriendly to drivers of non-Lotus manufactured cars. I can only state my own opinion - I am sorry that such incidents occurred. If it were up to me I would formally invite all Se7en manufacturers to LOG. I have stated before that the Balkanization of the Se7en community would be a disservice to those who love the type. On the other hand: 1 - I do take some offense of non-Lotus built cars wearing Lotus badges. Be proud of your car. Nobody claims that a Se7en is a practical car. It is a hobby car. People purchase a specific make and model (or scratch build a car) because they wanted it. Support your manufacturer. Display the manufacturers badge proudly. 2 - Lotus Ltd has the specific mission of supporting Lotus. The club's governing recognizes that the Seven lives on in many forms. Legally the Seven name lives on via Caterham. In spirit it lives on by multitude of manufactures. Please don't paint an entire club by the actions and words of a few individuals. If someone organizes a Se7en event I will try to attend especially if Lotus built cars are allowed.
  4. Old 135-15 tires don't have much grip which makes sliding the rear so much fun. I know that I was grinning like an idiot during the autocross. One of the cool things was that there were spectators who actually applauded cars and drivers that did well: beginners who improved their runs, people who pushed hard, smooth driving... Some Se7en specific pictures plus a plug for LOG 31
  5. I had a great time at the autocross! I had one big slide and expected to be the only one to do a loop at the event. The Seven recovered! Wow! I never used the brakes just lifted. When I lifted while initiating the turn the car started to rotate. I could then turn with my right foot. Impressive number of Se7ens at the autocross. Did anyone record the times?
  6. The Colorado folks arrived Wednesday night with their caravan of Se7ens & Elans.

About 20 people are already working away on setup. Three Lotus Seven's in attendance already. Two trailered and Bill B. who drove from upstate NY.
  8. My recollection is that 10 are planned. It may turn out to be 12 if the hotel has to use their larger tables to accommodate the crowd.
  9. I can suggest some things for us members of USA7s. Breakfast meeting - the hotel has a buffet For those attending the banquet grab a table. Is anyone going to the banquet who will be arriving early Friday? If so, consider volunteering to take names and sign up a bunch of people on a USA7s table. Pick one of the rides and go in-mass Auto cross grudge matches
  10. Try the K&N site. They sell thing there that they won't sell through their authorized dealers. They sometimes undercut their dealers. http://www.knfilters.com/

Today I received a letter confirming my LOG registration. It details the options I chose (e.g., events, food, merchandise) has a schedule of events and directions. Everyone who preregistered should have received a confirmation letter or should be receiving one shortly.

Registration reports 178 cars listed as coming to LOG. Possibly the largest gathering of Lotus & Se7ens in the western hemisphere.
  13. I believe you can sign off on your own car. Last year I thought about doing so but had a mechanic who supports some vintage racers do the checking. Get the official word from log30questions@gmail.com This year I will attend the track day as a spectator if I can find the time. I don't know how much post LOG work there will be for the committee.

  15. Truthfully there aren't may hotels but there are enough and they will be cheap. Kanab UT has a few. Almost any town will have one. The loop is about 700 miles so 2 days at a minimum if you want to see things. I would plan to start out going to the south rim and stay in the national park if I could get a room. That way you could get an evening and a morning view. You cold then decide to press on for the loop or just take a trip to Flagstaff and back to Las Vegas.
  16. With a bit of luck the roads in the park will be open to private vehicles. Consider a tour around the canyon. The N. rim is very different, much less crowded. I have driven I-15, rt-89 - rt-89A loop and I-40 in our M100 during late September. Wonderful. Spend time walking and looking. It is the most spectacular natural sight my wife and I have ever seen. It takes a bit of time for the magnitude of the canyon to sink in. Watching a thunderstorm roll through the canyon was the highlight. Good luck.

The official LOG 31 announcement will be made in just a few weeks at LOG 30 (Gettysburg PA).
  18. Resurrecting this thread. Our car is back from getting its bodywork adjusted. I started to polish it tonight. I am trying a different approach this time around. I am starting with a cotton polishing wheel on a DeWalt 7" polisher using stick rouge. It is cleaning up quickly and by polishing with the grain it seems to be doing a pretty good job. I will try and keep this thread up to date as I play with various techniques and grades of rouge.

The latest counts for LOG30 have 200+ registrants for 360+ people in attendance. This matches nicely with the 200+ LOG related room reservations at the hotel. LOG is a different experience. As you drive around you see other Lotus cars driving about and parked at the local restaurants and shops. Someone mentions that they heard about a good BBQ, ice cream, road, interesting auto shop and etc. suddenly a dozen Lotus leave in a group to check it out. You hear yourself and others saying "I never saw one of those before." If you have mechanical difficulties someone has the part you need, another has the tools you need and someone else has fixed the same thing and can tell you how to do the job and avoid potential pitfalls. There will be an argument about a historical point concerning Lotus or racing and (except for the question of the origin of the Lotus name) someone who was there, built the part or raced the race will chime in. You owe it to yourself to attend.
  20. Do you have a close up of the grill of the Yellow car? It looks interesting.
  21. Even though I've never ridden a scooter I want a classic Vespa. I do recall an article where Freddie Spencer was in Italy riding two up on a scooter and raced a moped rider riding two up. It was a classic race of power (scooter) vs. handling (the better lean angle of the moped). The other guy never knew he was racing the then 500cc world champion.
  22. I suggest claying the car. One of my friends has a 20 year old Honda is both love of his life and his daily driver. We attacked it with clay and there was an amazing difference. We were a bit concerned with the thickness of the paint after 20 years of of somewhat regular compounding. The clay took off the embedded dirt and a bit of chalking. Looking good. Keep us posted on your progress.
  23. You even got the old girl to shine a bit!
  24. Looks good. The left side seems to have a bit more haze that the right. The back, which will be covered by the spare tire, looks awesome. Give us some details on the polishing procedure that you used. Those Dell'Orto are rare and worth a few bucks.
