Some background to what ZDDP does in an oil and why it is desirable. Post 3 is from a club member who is an oil specialist in his day job. ZDDP is particularly worthwhile on older engines like crossflows.

Calling @Anaximander to the discussion. Hi Bob - you are not that far away from Jeff, do you know of a specialist style of mechanic suitable for a Caterham or even just a good auto electrician please?

The Regular Summary of Classified Ads of Se7ens Found For Sale
Croc replied to Croc's topic in Cars For Sale
Thanks for posting. It is always good to check things out as there are many bad people out there always trying to take an advantage. I did some research and the seller on that ad matches the name/email/location of a user profile on USA7s. Last seen on this forum in 2015. I emailed the contact on Race Car Sales site and got no response. But it its the same text as you note with the same location. I emailed the site administrator and they had no response from seller as of me posting now. Given this ad has been live for so long on Race Car Sales, I was intending to ignore it anyway as I think it is an echo of the original owner trying to sell it and the ad is no longer valid. After checking it out I have removed it even though the ad is still posted on the third party website. Thank you for the heads up! -

Ok the springs make sense now relative to the bumpy tarmac. The UK use those springs with ZZS which tends to be the control tire of choice for most of the race series. One or two series will allow ZZR but its not the common tire. However, the track surfaces are mostly smooth there with the exception of Brands Hatch. So your springs are fine but ill suited to Sonoma but you could work around that with either softening rear tire pressures, disconnecting rear anti-roll bar (I bet you have already done this), or moving to one of the two ZZR compounds for that circuit.

I really like that. What happens to the drone when you go over 35mph? It seems to pull up and let you go? What does it do then - search for a new target? Edited to add: Great minds think alike so John and I posted the exact same question at the exact same time!

Parts wanted for Seven S2 restoration
Croc replied to ClassicBritishSportsCar's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
@coffee break Good call. Hard to discern from the photos but thats what I would bet. Starting off @ClassicBritishSportsCar if you need technical information as you work through your project, then please look here: Lotus Seven - USA7s Others can individually chime in on whether they have any parts they would have to sell you re your project, but here are a list of websites off my resource list of where you will have your best chance of sourcing parts. In no particular order: Lotus 7/Seven Parts at Vintage Race Car Parts Kinetic Vehicles Lotus 7 (leechapmanracing.com) Parts (mikebrotherwood.com) GOLDEN GATE LOTUS CLUB - Lotus Seven Parts Cross Reference (gglotus.org) r.d. enterprises ltd. Home Page (rdent.com) rockymountaincaterham.com Lotus Seven | British Classic Spare Parts LOTUS 7 parts Xtra Special Sevens Website is not working right now but Redline Components in the UK is also a source. If you are trying to authenticate the car, assuming it has a chassis number remaining then www.simplesevens.org is a good place to start. -
Its always good fun to have a track tag buddy to play with! Hope this gets others to come out and play with you. Very nice driving - quite lively in the rear end for you. It was an interesting video to study in light of your brake pad/bias thread. Is Sonoma really that bumpy a surface? One day in the next two years I will get to run there. Also what is the lap timing app you are using on your phone please.

I saw someone yesterday, possibly a Caterham dealer close to Redmond WA, and he wondered if it was just another case of a car being lapped or about to be lapped?

Parts wanted for Seven S2 restoration
Croc replied to ClassicBritishSportsCar's topic in Parts For Sale / Wanted
Congratulations on your first post and welcome to USA7s. It might help if you could please clarify which year of seven we are looking at here. For example, is this a Lotus 7 S3 from late 60s to early 70s? Is this a Caterham 7 S3 from say 75 to now? The parts you require differ by year. Some are adaptable from other years of manufacture. Seats varied by year and may be no longer available unless you want the current Caterham type. Lots of knowledge here that can help you if we have a little more information to focus the responses. If you need help identifying what car you have exactly, I can decode a VIN if you post it here. -
Calling out @Darren and @KnifeySpoony who are having a good game of track tag in this photo at Sonoma.

Oh I can soooooo understand this....several times over! Welcome to USA7s Jeremy. Glad to see you have met Jay in his road tripping travels. You have a nice part of the world to live in for back roads blatting.

Looking for owners on Gulf side of Florida

@jeffs Hey Jeff - Good to see you surface. Hope all is well with you? -
I think they wear well. A lot depends on driving style. I don't use up my brakes, I do engine brake, but I also destroy tires (I use them to scrub speed) which reflects the v8 touring cars I learned to race which were always quite marginal on brakes. I think I have 8,000 track miles on the current set in the UK Caterham but its time for some new front ones this year. Differing pad compounds front and rear is an old racers trick. It was used on cars where adjustable braking was not permitted or possible. Entirely valid approach to the problem and justified to try in your instance. However, if this does not work then the upgrade path is: 1) move to the race master cylinder (if you have not done so already) 2) upgrade to race rears 3) a brake balance adjuster set up is needed.

Longest drives? 450miles going to Home Depot a couple of states away. I took the long way. Same car, with its new owner, ended up driving from the Holland Tunnel in NYC to Juneau Alaska. 4000 miles in 5 days. He did at least one 1000+ mile day. As for breakdowns, only ever one in a se7en where I ended up on the back of a truck, in the same car as above. No photo but it looked EXACTLY like Vlad's first photo with green oozing out everywhere.

The hard core race guys use Mintex 1144 compound. But in the last year, a few of them were trialling the Mintex F2R compound and preferring those over the 1144 compound. Apparently the F2R is harder to get warmed up and get in the right temp window but once there they stay there without fade. I currently have the Mintexx 1144 on my UK Caterham and I like the brake balance on that.

Sorry to see you were working with a genuine Ford casted part too. Disappointing when that happens. Your fix works but what a lot of effort to solve a manufacturing fault.
-
While you are in there you should always replace the clutch and related seals. If you dont then they always fail within 1000 miles of putting the car back together - they do for me anyway. The answer to your slave cylinder seals may come from @Lotusfan since he has a similar car but may also come from calling a Redline or SBD in the UK and sharing these photos. The GM part could be off something never sold here like a Vauxhall mid-size or it could be bodged off a Ford Capri (Mercury Capri as sold in the US) or off an XR4i. Trial and error sadly.

Hmmm...this is a long list Have Bruce @BruceBefinish off CatKong New tires time for the silver Caterham CSR. New seats should arrive too in a few months Plenty of track days planned in UK for the Caterham I keep there - Donington, Goodwood, Brands Hatch GP, Croft, Cadwell Park. Get #1 Holden Group A restoration 60% done - new paint done. Engine bay done and fuel system sorted. Interior is next year Get #2 Holden Group A suspension sorted so that it does not provide bulk oversteer if I glance at a throttle. Its fun but.... Pick up Lambo from its spa treatment in CO and go touring in MT and WY as the next installment in my cross continent explorations. Want to drive Pikes Peak too. Finally find that knock in the offside rear suspension of the Ferrari. May consider painting it back to original navy blue? Finish the suspension set up on the BMW CSL with the new camber plates. Needs new tires. New fuel cell to fix pick up issues under hard lefts. Drive the Mustang and continue to physically destroy me. Look at the Holden Torana in the garage and wonder what I should do with it for restoration. Finish the exterior restoration of the Range Rover. Interior started - hopefully air con finished and working by December. Feel I have lost a car somewhere.....

Should those suspension pick up points be square in alignment?
