  1. The switch should be three way, left, off, right turn indicators. It is in the way when driving gloves are used in competition. Wayne
  2. Hi Guys, If you follow Cosworth lore, the BDR is only a head conversion on the kent block. To get the real HP, requires steel crank and rods, giving 9500 rpm capability, like the BDD. A BDR conversion was on race-cars.com to get an idea of the conversion. My Vegantune BDD uses some Cosworth parts with the corresponding "co$worth" in the prices. Wayne
  3. Gordon,

I was able to use the gearbox as collateral with a friend and hope to get it our of "hock" later in the year. Initially behind the zetec and later behind the vegantune BDD.

  4. Wheeler Dealers shows Caterham as feature on Velocity at 6pm PST or 9pm EST. Should be interesting to see what they do. Wayne
  5. Anybody else thinks that these are an XL version of our se7ens? more power, more weight, same concept and build style. Interestingly, even the well builit, ridetech car, was not a killer at the Optima Street Car challenge. Wayne
  6. A little off subject, but it would be very interesting to get both engine weights in similar configuration or as close to possible. This debate has gone on for almost a decade. Granted, this would be a comparison of 2L vs 2.3L. thanks, Wayne
  7. The best ride is going to be with 13" rims. The classic sizes of 165, 175 or 185-13 are available from some manufacturers and from Coker. The rims are also among the cheapest. Wayne
  8. If Ricks S7 is the one that I have seen, there is not much "real" super 7 remaining. Most vintage racers in the USA are far from stock or as delivered. Wayne SB1497
  9. As you see from Ron's pics and my text, that sound reduction requires work. The air intake needs to "hidden" from the meter and that requires the air intake to be from under the hood or from the cockpit for the long term. The air box should be constructed using denser materials to reduce the "booming" effect. Another not as elegant approach that I have used, is a marine sound blanket that is attached to the hood using Velcro and double stick tape. Again the air intake noise is not directly seem by the sound meter and some of the noise is also absorbed. Wayne
  10. Some difference due to losses from gearboxes. 6 speed is 1:1 top gear whereas 5 speed is overdrive, which is some greater gear loss.
  11. John, The Ultraflows are 6" in diameter and the body is 16". The lengths were determined to follow the profile of the chassis side. I use a "trombone" on the side under the clams to get that much length. You may be able to find a longer muffler that fits just along side the seating side of the chassis. You do not want to use a supertrap. To get the BDA quiet enough, it was so choked that the back pressure caused the engine to stop running after about 30 seconds and this was using the larger supertrap. The other area that has to be addressed is the intake noise. If you can see into the intakes, so can the sound meter. It was quite a bit of work to make my air intake using 1/8" alloy, but it takes that side to reduce the booming that occurs with thin materials. Call me if you want to talk, We have worked hard to meet the restrictions at the stadium. Even the Emod champ, Jeff Kiesel had to make many modifications to meet the requirements. 93db@50ft means that you hardly hear the noise at the edge of the stadium. Wayne 619-444-0840
  12. James A had asked this question at the end of another thread. Brought into a new thread. Can you tell us a little more about the engine and the build details that yield 230 hp from a 2.0 Zetec? Guess that since crower makes stage 4 cams for the zetec, high HP is possible, just not very driveable. Michael once said that the Quicksilver zetec was 215 HP Anyone have actual postable numbers? thanks, Wayne
  13. Hi, I had to use two Magnaflow Ultraflow mufflers to quiet down a BDA. It takes volume to quiet down the exhaust noise. Another consideration is the intake noise, which greatly contributes to the overall noise "seen" by the meter. I built an airbox that picks up its air from inside the cockpit through the heater opening in the cowl. Here is San Diego, we are limited to 93db@50ft. Wayne
  14. Am I the only one, but that 7 doesn't look right. For a true lotus 7, there is an almost straight line from the cowl to the nose cone. The fenders also look to be too wide. Wayne, SB1497 original, original, original FS
  15. Brand new, must sell. $3000, no longer available on Caterham website Wayne 619-444-0840
  16. Hi, Have a new piece that might fit your needs. It is brand new, still in the blue alloy covering. Can send pics to your email. Wayne, 619-444-0840
  17. Ross is fortunate to have Josh being interested in the L7S3. Many of my friends have offered their specialty cars to their offsprings only to be told, Don't want it. There is nothing wrong in having two sevens, but there comes a time to find another caretaker and for us with original cars, most of those interested are on the other side of the pond. Wayne
  18. A gear type of diff could use oil without the friction modifiers that are required for LSD which used plates. Might need to try thicker diff oil. Wayne
  19. Not sure that the age makes a difference for the export. Shipping company only wants Bill of Sale and Title docs. There may be difference based on age for import into the UK.
  20. I am in preparation to export a 1962 Lotus Super 7, SB1497; so far seems pretty straight forward on this end. Wayne
  21. Short answer, they all will do that. You can't stay 100% original and have HP and use it. A plate to match the contours or bridge is usually welded on to the axle. For gears, maybe tr7, but that requires different axles and machine work. That to a local vintage racer.
  22. Have Holbay valve cover. Wayne super7guy7@yahoo.com
  23. I believe these to be original S1 fixed cycle fenders. I picked them up in Wales in the 70s. Wayne
