  1. Yeah, that's probably the smart move, but I've had the car for 14 years now. I built it and as you know it's been VERY reliable for all the years on track and autoxing. I have a special attachment to it. Plus I like Clams. :jester: So yeah, financially it's probably smarter, but not many have accused me of being smart. :svengo: Tom
  2. Hey Mike, I replaced the head gasket and followed all the steps recommended by Dave Andrews, the UK Kseries guru. Checked liner heights, Peened the fire rings, did a light skim, used new head bolts and the recommended gasket. Oh, and replaced the plastic locating dowels with the upgraded steel ones. Dave said those steps should ensure future reliability. Couldn't find any sign of a breach in the gasket, but Dave said that it's not always easy to spot. I was surprised that it still had the old style plastic dowels, but knock on wood, everything is good now. The car ran great and coolant levels and temp were perfect. I did buy a new Duratec on Ebay in the fall. Just trying to figure out what power level to take it to. I talked with Jon Nelson last week and he thought the 263hp R500 level was a good compromise. It's either around 225 with no bottom end work or whole hog is around 290-300hp. I picked up the Duratec because it was a great deal. Unfortunately, to switch to the duratec, it requires all new mounts, bellhousing, exhaust, clutch, TB's ECU, loom and ancilliaries, before I even think about internal work to get the big power. Just have to determine how much pain I want to endure trying to convince the wife I need to spend the bucks needed to do it right. Luckily the current engine is running great, it's just not quite able to keep up with Blubarisax and Croc or the other Big Dogs on the track. Yesterdays frustration was the inability to hold off a GT2 Porsche on the track. Had him on the turns but he ran me down and over on the straights. Another 100hp would probably have help me. :jester: Happy Easter. Tom
  3. Sounds about right. Can't wait to see what changing over the front hubs and stub axles for the upgraded one will cause to fail. :svengo::toetap05:
  4. Took the Caterham to the track on Friday for a couple days on the track. After 14 years, about 60++ trackdays and 8 years of autoxing, I finally put new pads and front rotors on. :svengo: Funny thing is the pads still had plenty of life left in them. Gotta love light cars. I knew that the pads needed to be bedded in, so I did a few 30 to zero stops in the paddock and went out in the first heat figuring I'd have a chance to do the 70 to 30 stops under the first lap yellow. Got in at the back of the pac and on the first straight got up to 70ish and hit the brakes. WHOA NELLY. Locked them up and had to hold on as the car made some wild gyrations. Did it again on the next two straights and had similar reactions. Pitted and joined the group at the back end again and did three more similar braking applications and it seemed to respond better. Did the next session and all was good. Third session, the car wouldn't start. Seems that Alternator went tits up and drained the battery. Done for the day. :nopity: Charged it overnight and it started up and ran great for the session. Put it back on the charger and Nope it wouldn't start. Charged it again, and got another run in and called it a day. Felt good to get back on the track, and the car felt good and I got a good workout getting in and out with the new rollcage. Guess you got to take the good with the bad. Tom
  5. Good response so far, 15 drivers and 3 spectators have provided the requested info. Still hoping for 8 more potential drivers and a couple more spectators to respond based on the original interest. I'm hitting the track tomorrow and will turn in the first batch of driver histories to the track Admin. Tom
  6. I have a 280 MOMO that gives good leg clearance. Nice thickness for good grip as well. Tom
  7. Shane, you best watch out for Kitcat and don't let him get behind you. His nickname from our first outing was the "Blue Enema" :driving: He'll run right up your rear. :smilielol5: Tom
  8. Mario, most people will arrive late afternoon on Thursday July 3rd, we will have a BBQ dinner that evening. Friday, July4th, Breakfast starts at 7am with Tech opening then as well. Drivers meeting begins at 8am. Track goes hot at 9am. I don't have details on our run group timing at this time. Lunch is usually scheduled around noon, and is included in the fee. Saturday July 5th's schedule will duplicate Friday's. Sunday July 6th we will host a Karting event in the morning for those that wish to participate. So depending on your schedule availability, those are your options. Cost of the track days has not been released as of yet by the track but Last year's guest fees were $195 per day for drivers and $25 a day for non driving guests, both include a buffet breakfast and lunch and liquid refreshments during the day. NJMP Drivers club is the event organizer. They have granted us our own Run Group for 7's only. Race tires permitted for Caterhams only. :smilielol5: You stalker boys can either run with 4 plug wires disconnected or run on 6 inch wide bias belted tires your choice. :smilielol5::jester: Passing is on the straights only with a mandatory point by. This is NOT a race. Tom
  9. Shane, you might want to consider something like this and add an anti sway bar to it as well. http://www.ebay.com/itm/66153-Reese-SC-800-lbs-Trunnion-Bar-Weight-Distribution-Kit-Sway-Control/290971460204?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222008%26algo%3DSIC.MOTORS%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D21398%26meid%3D6187317375988238428%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D9407%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D180872918771 Tom
  10. Thanks Stewart, got it! We now have 12 drivers that have submitted their info, and we received 2 more responses from potential attendees who are not driving but possibly attending. Still looking for the other 11 drivers to submit their info and 4 other non driving spectators to just confirm they are coming. Tom:party:
  11. Thanks Martin! you may be in the Pole Position with that resume!!! :cooldude::cooldude: Tom
  12. Thanks SteveN., Kitcat, MichaelD, Steve M. and Dave D. Info received. Keep them coming. :hurray: Tom
  13. Thanks Shane. Got it. keep them coming in. Tom
  14. We are now 90 days out from the 4th Annual East Coast Sevens Event at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Hopefully, you have cleared your schedules to attend July 3rd to july 6th, 2014, Mike and I are very much looking forward to seeing you all. Online registration is expected to open in mid-May. To get a head start on the process we need your assistance. So we can send you an online registration hyperlink we need you to send an email to sevensarefun@gmail.com with the following information: 1) Your name and anticipated family/guest numbers attending. 2) Contact phone number 3) A driving resume for those planning to HPDE their seven – one or two days As you will be participating in an NJMP-sanctioned event, they require a driving resume/history to make sure that you are eligible for participating in a passing run group. The summary should contain: · Your name · Track experience (HPDE, racing, time trials, hill climbs, etc.) · Number of events participated over time · Tracks you have run at · Copies of racing licenses or past racing experience, if applicable. This is not intended to be a multi-page life history but a short history to show that you have driven on track before and are qualified to be in a passing group. Once you have emailed them to sevensarefun@gmail.com, Tom and I will submit the resumes to NJMP in advance for review. Please be sure to send your email to sevensarefun@gmail.com otherwise we will not be able to send you the appropriate online registration link and you will not be registered to participate. Those of you with limited or no prior track day experience may be placed in the non-passing, GREEN run group which is a great way to ease into an on track experience. This group runs behind the pace car and allows you to learn the track and the speed is progressively increased throughout the day. Best bit is that you still get to join in all the social fun in the pits between driving sessions. Given the proximity of Millville to the Jersey Shore and that we are having this event on a holiday weekend, you would be well advised to starting planning lodging accommodations. 15. Fixed that for you. :jester:
  16. Steve, the Villas are really close to Croc's new garagemahal. So close You could probably hear him snore at night.:jester:
  17. Sorry to hijack this thread. the Villas are individual condo units and I think have 3 bedrooms. Very nice. The Suites are the other track option and are basic, with two nice pull out beads. That are actually comfortable. They run around 70plus a nite if I recall correctly. The Hampton is nice and is about 7 miles away. the Fairfield is about 2 or 3 miles. Hampton is a little nicer IMO, but both are good. Haven't stayed at the Wingate, but it's in the same lot at the Hampton. Haven't done the Holiday INN either and that's about 3 miles away.
  18. I did as well, although I usually just stay at the NJMP trackside suites as they are on site and saves a few minutes in the morning. Tom
  19. At this time, we have pretty much confirmed a good level of interest and Mike and I have been working on the Logistics for meals/dinners as this new level of participation requires a lot more effort than our previous events. I have had you down as interested in attending. The track has not yet opened up sign up for the event so no monetary commitment is needed at the moment. However, I do suspect that lodging will fill up quickly in the area as it is somewhat close to the New Jersey beaches and it is the biggest Shore week of the year. There are 20 trackside suites at the track and as noted by Shane in his post, there are several hotel options nearby, Marriott Fairfield, in Millville, as well as the Hampton Inn in Vineland. There are probably a couple more, nearby, but again I suspect they will start filling up shortly. So long answer is I'd book a hotel room if you can cancel sooner than later, and once the track opens the registration, you will be on the hook for the trackday fee. Tom
  20. Mike, we did set the dates as per the link that Xcarguy posted. As noted we are arriving on Thursday July 3rd with a welcome reception BBQ planned. Run Friday July 4th and Saturday July 5th with a Go Kart Challenge race on Sunday morning July 6th. Hope you can join us. Tom
  21. The old saying, "it's hard to teach an OLD Dog new tricks" is proven once again. :jester: Tom
  22. I'm amazed at the difference in a Westfield build vs a Caterham build. Yours is truly a "build". The Caterham assembly is more like putting together a model than a build. I could never have done what you're doing. That's going to be a great car as you obviously have the skill and patience to do it right. Great job! I hope Dave Kirk is taking notes for his upcoming build. :seeya: Tom
  23. Shane, if you can keep it on the track, you'll be the talk of the day. If you pull a Croc/kitcat, then you'll be the talk of the day too. :jester:. I suspect that Storkers will be a big attention getter as they are pretty use to us being pesky little gnats that annoy them when they have to give us point bys. Your Big honking, winged beast should be more to their liking. Especially the Vette guys. The Porker owners, not so much. It's bad enough they have to contend with 4cylinder kit cars. An LS beast will really annoy them. Too bad we are running our own run group, as we definitely would have had fun playing with some of the guys as there are some really good drivers in the club. 90 days until we get together in July. Tom
  24. 23.0 pounds for my 10x13 Kodiaks with 10 inch Hoosier slicks. 9 pounds for the 10x13 wheel only, I just bought from Bill. Tom
