Shane, I can't wait to hear Suave's version of the incident. :driving: Rest up and follow the doctor's orders. If you think you are in pain now, just wait until you are healed up and Robin can really set you straight. Tom

Shane: As a disability attorney, I am used to asking clients to rate their pain. Typically we use a 0-10 scale, with most really bad pain rating at around a 7-8, with occasional spikes higher. At one hearing the judge asked my client to rate his pain on the 0-10 scale and he gave it an 11. The judge said "That's impossible." To which my client said:"Tell that to my pain!". Sounds like you know what the 11/10 pain is all about(:.

Curiosity is eating away at me...wondering if this happened @TWS with TDE and whether or not red mist from another driver played a role.

No red mist at all. Shane was driving extremely well and not over his head. The car just broke.

Hey everyone,

xcarguy here. Just checking in briefly, then headed for more rest. Once I have the opportunity to speak with my insurance company more directly (ball is rolling), I'll catch all up on what happened. As for me, we are awaiting another doctor's consultation this afternoon to determine what course of action to take for my injury. I also want to send out a big THANK YOU to JeffersonRaley for starting this post and for his kind comments. I'm extremely thankful thank JR escaped with some bumps, bruises and soreness, and another car story to share with others. To add to JR's words, the accident was unavoidable and the action we took on track was the lesser of all evils. Updates to come.

Hey, guys,

xcarguy here. First, let me give a HUGE SHOUTOUT to all of you for your kind words, prayers and thoughts. As you all know, Robin (super woman) has been acting as my spokes person for the last few days while I've been laid up. When I'm up to it, I'll bring everyone into the loop on what transpired (no red paint involved). As for me (in short) I've broken vertebra T10, T11 and T12 is in a somewhat complicated way and have experienced pain beyond description. Thanks to an air ambulance, I'm now in Little Rock, AR at Baptist Health hospital (relatively closer to home) and will most likely be here for a few more days. Again, thanks to everyone for their support . . . . . Updates to come.

Shane

As an enthusiast without a Seven, I usually stay on the sidelines; but upon learning of the extent of your injuries, I feel compelled to chime in. Certainly, we were all hoping for lesser injuries, but as long as you have escaped without cord involvement, all is (relatively) well. As a PT with several years on trauma units, I would encourage you to postpone your inclination to "get going" until you have a bright green light from the docs. Your use of the word "complicated" suggests the possibility of one or more burst fractures, which are not to be trifled with. So, joining your long list of well-wishers, I encourage you to be a patient patient until you know for sure that you are cleared to begin moving without fear of extending your injuries. All best wishes, Joe

Yes I think that is good advice from Advaitin. Take it easy and recover right first time.

I am sending one of our better company nurses down to Arkansas. She is good with administering small pricks. You will feel better in no time at all!

Now that is funny. Croc giving advice on healing. How's that advice working out with the foot?

Speaking of small pricks....:p

I will have you know I only destroyed one Caterham clutch with my broken foot....

One day the swelling will go down enough I can wear more than one pair of shoes...:leaving:

Shane,

Tom had to send me a direct email about your accident as I haven't been in the site for a while. So sorry to learn about it, but glad to see you are already active on line. BTW: Robin is something special. I hope you are good about paybacks ;-)

I have had enough injuries with surgeries to understand where what you are going through. Rest. Rest. Rest. Until you are given the OK to move anything by your surgeon. Then comes the seeming endless PT. Don't over do it and follow their directions to a T. All the while, I imagine you will go over the incident in your mind a few hundred times diagnosing the cause and thinking about the proper corrective measures. You will likely have it all planned out by the time you are fully recovered.

I hope that all does not take to long and we can all get together again.

Best wishes. Our spirits are with you and your family.

Hey all,

(X)carguy here; thanks to the collaborative tag-teaming of my wife and Croc, this is now the ‘new and improved’ spelling of my forum name. :cuss: Their shenanigans aside, thought I’d peck out a quick update while the pain is down and the meds are up.

Still keeping the specifics of the mishap under wraps until I can visit with my insurance co…...but…..for your viewing pleasure, here are a couple of post-crash pics (courtesy of JR). When you view the photos, keep in mind that the left-front suspension assembly had broken down pre-crash and WAS the cause of the crash. I’ve also included a track map photo (corners labeled) and an additional track photo depicting where the mishap took place.

As for me, it’s all about the thoracic vertebrae. I have a minor fracture in T2 (perhaps the initial cost of the Hans wasn’t that bad after all). There’s a nasty fracture in T10, a compression fracture in T11 and a burst fracture in T12. A consultation on Monday (tomorrow) with a ‘neurosurgeon of choice’ should result in decision regarding which direction I’ll be taking for recovery.

Okay…......time for my beauty rest.

That was the most exciting ride I've had in a while - even before we launched off the track. Shane's a hoot to ride with, and the car is nothing short of astonishing. Glad to hear you're feeling well enough to get on the boards Shane. Keep up the healing.

Funny thing - I can still tell you the exact notes I was planning to give you on T15 and T14. I guess I can clear those memory slots since TWS gets demolished in June.

I was expecting a lot worse damage to the car, given the catastrophic nature of the suspension failure and your ensuing injuries (Just hearing the words "burst fracture", makes me wince). Hopefully, you can be fixed as easily as the car.

Shane,

I agree with Mike. My car looked much worse after a 6' high chain link fence caught it. You must have had considerable air under the car before you landed!

Keeping you in our prayers for a speedy and full recovery.

Its hard to see how you sustained so much damage while the car has so little. I guess we will have to wait for the details, get well soon.

Here's what my Miata looked like after leaving a banked turn at about 70 mph, never touching the ground until it landed on top of a tire wall. I was unhurt but the car required $7k to put it right again.

Fortunately the corner workers are not allowed in it while the track is hot. I can see it now, "please sir, tell the jury how you got a whiplash sitting in an outhouse".

There was what we thought was a dead mouse but it got up and scampered away after a few minute. Not sure if it was making use of the facilities or was just in front of it. :D
