Mileage roll call. Did you buy the right version of the car?

Sad to say mine has been parked for 5yrs while I put 2 kids through college. Last one graduated Jan2021 and is just now starting to work due to Covid.  Soooo, hopefully get the hiem-joints replaced, flush the gas tank, new tires, battery, and hope for the best soon.

I'm really curious how easy or hard it'll be to flush out 5 year old gas from the lines, keep us posted!

You'd actually be surprised that it might work without being flushed. Without knowing his scenario but I've had cars sit for nearly a decade and still run after. 

 

As far as miles now, I'm gladly reporting that NY registration issue is skirted for next two years and I have plates again to put some miles on!

I am pretty sure I have the right car for me.  Live axle S-3 with a Lotus Twincam.  It had been sitting for ten years when I bought it. At that time it had 12,000 miles on the odometer.   Despite the previous owner telling me he had run it every month it took some effort to get it started.  It has been a six year adventure to get everything right, new engine and transmission along the way, but what a hoot.

1984 S-3 with 14K on the odometer. its the epitome of analog car so i I love it more with each issue i resolve and every mile i put on it. I don't see myself selling...anytime soon!

I bought a 93 HPC last June with 10,015 miles on the clock. Interestingly, that’s almost exactly 1 mile a day for 27 years. It’s around 16,000 miles now after my jaunt last year.

200mi yesterday dipping into SE VT and back home on backroads. No complaints from my back in the Tillett, tho right knee was a little stiff when I got home.  
Almost at 30k on the clock!  (I do believe Dr. Hasegawa puts us all to shame regarding mileage)

I purchased my '62 Lotus Seven back in 2009.  It had been in storage since December of '71 or '72 when I purchased it.  It had been a race car for most of its USA life.  I am the 5th owner from new.  It was purchased as a kit in December of '61.  The original owner in the UK sold it to an American service man who brought it to SoCal around 1964.    I let it sit for about a year when I brought it home while I remodeled the kitchen (my wife insisted that home project be completed before the Seven arrived in our garage!).  Since it was a race car it had no speedometer installed.  But the original odometer showed about 23k miles.  I have averaged about 3500 miles per year since purchase including the 3 years it was apart for restoration, 2016-2019.  My longest travel in a single day is about 460 miles, San Diego to Cambria, taking the scenic route.  A typical morning blat out to the desert or up into the local mountains is about 150 miles round trip.  However I did trailer it the 170 miles each way out to Chuckwalla last weekend for a couple of days on track.  So all in I think my car has about 55k-60k miles from new

 

The Seven is the 4th Lotus that I have purchased.  I searched for several years to find one.  It is the one car that I always wanted since I first saw a pic in a magazine of one as a kid back in the early '60s.  While seeing the Esprit makes me smile every time I open the garage door and the Evora brings pleasure to my wife, which makes me very happy, the Seven gives me the biggest grin while driving out of all of the cars I have ever driven or owned.  It is absolutely the right car for me!

I can now answer the second part of the question. Yes, definitely got the right version. 
 

The car is intended for management and myself to spend time together puttering about. Last week we had a glorious morning drive, didn’t break 50 mph the whole drive and management loves the burble and relaxed pace as we go 1-3-5 through the box… all civil as can be, any of the range of available models except maybe the 620 ( sequential’s liking a bit of pace to be smoother) would suffice. 
 

Next day, solo, on my mountain road, my estimation is that other models would have me chasing for the sweet spot or in the 620’s case just being nuts. The road I get sporty on gives the most when driven a smooth 60-80, the spec of the 420 allows this to happen in one gear (4th or 5th depending on mood/traffic) there is enough rev range to mitigate the need to change gear and enough torque to clear traffic or mumbo out of the tighter corners. 
 

Granted other models would all have their charm/style/rewards and if I was pushed to pick I would go Super Seven 1600 because clams, pizza cutters and a healthy can do attitude is a great recipe for joy. However for the now, management and I have the right model.
