Croc
Bringatrailer is offering a 1985 Rotus 7 for sale in its new weekly auction format. http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1985-rotus-7/ Lots of great write up and photos including a great cutaway drawing. The documentation pics show a USA7s forum member (Robert O. Urfer) as an ex-owner and I suspect the current owner is too. Probably the nicest condition I have ever seen a Rotus. If you have not had a chance to study an unmolested Rotus before this is a good opportunity to do so. ETA - sold for $11000 Edited September 10, 2014 by Croc Added sale price
Robert O. Urfer
I owned that Rotus for a couple years. The guy has the story a little wrong but close enough. They didn't doo much to it from the looks of it. They put the clamshells back on since I converted it to cycle fenders, they painted it, cleaned it up a bit, added a weird looking airbox onto the carbs, changed the steering wheel and shift knob, cleaned up the wiring that was hanging out from under the dash, (hopefully they rewired the car it was in rough shape electrically), maybe I will just buy it back if its cheap enough. add to my seven collection. lucky dawg
1104mi per the web page. It always surprises me how low the mileage is on some of these cars. I know many of us here do 2-3x that each summer. p. With the reliability of Caterham speedometer, there could easily be normal mileage on the car. Best to check other indicators of wear. Best to check other indicators of wear. Sadly, the speedo was more accurate than the dealer who cannot describe anything accurately. Should be 11000 miles.... I am amazed to read that there were 70 Rotus's (Roti?) out there. There are very few that come up for sale or are seen anywhere around. I am a little surprised that the seller is trying the BAT auction route but it will be interesting to see how it all ends up.
rotus8guy
70 is optimistic for the total of Roti. Dennis Hedges (last shop foreman at Rotus) estimated 40 something for their 12? year production run. jb
Robert O. Urfer
The current owner is not in the know. Dennis told me the same about 40 cars total built. This car was number 14 or 21 I think. Hard to remember. Knowing what I paid for it, put into it and sold it for, plus seeing what the current owner has and has not done to it will make it interesting to see what it goes for. Let's just say it's rough! The seats may be worth more than the whole car. i spent quite a bit to procure those seats.
Croc
Much of last week's cars are still out there for sale no not repeating them here is a new lot: If you like bits, pieces, rust and have a lot of hope and positive thinking then this chassis project is just the thing to make you happy at $750 in TX: http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/cto/4648024366.html Now if that does not encourage you then this rolling chassis must be closer to the mark (baby steps...) at $1500 in Seattle: http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/4644515115.html I am not sure it really is in Seattle as the photos show sun? Then in San Francicso we have a 2001 Caterham in a striking white with red stripe color scheme which I really like. Not sure about the tan leather seats but that is just me preferring black as it makes me look slimmer. Really clean condition and 500 miles! Good grief...barely driven in 13 years. I expect it will need the same type of recommissioning that I got when I purchased a 10 year old 1800 mile car. :ack: SVT Zetec with a 5 speed. Asking $38500 http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/4654466311.html 2003 Caterham Superlight R listed in Sonoma. High spec car - 210hp Zetec, 6 speed and all the good upgrades. Great color scheme. Only 3000 miles. Been listed on this for sale thread quite a few times before. $48500 http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/4644930093.html No Birkins found for sale unless you like the Hermes Birkin handbag and somehow I suspect you don't! I did find a 1964 Westfield. Fiberglass body looks to be in decent shape. Would look perfect in the Seattle rainy weather. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-MFG-Westfield-Boat-with-matching-trailer-/221541092782?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3394e0cdae&item=221541092782&pt=Power_Motorboats (now runs and hides from JohnCH )
JohnCh
Would look perfect in the Seattle rainy weather...(now runs and hides from JohnCH ) No reason to hide. You are absolutely right about Seattle. It rains constantly here. In fact the only time I ever see the sun is when travelling on business. As proof, here is a photo taken earlier this morning after returning from a rain-soaked blat. That green stuff in the foreground that looks like grass? Mutant strain of moss. The highlights that look like the sun streaking through the incredibly dense, green, and oh so wet foliage? Simply areas where the acid rain has washed out the natural colors of the landscape. Whatever you do Croc, don't...move...to...Seattle. It sucks. Really. :jester: http://www.throttle-steer.com/uploads/1/1/0/8/11083275/5440785_orig.jpg -John

glenntwincam
I know I'm late to the party , 2000 & 2001 caterham's that are for sale in San Francisco area have std zetec engines not SVT version , (wrong valve cover & intake manifold) also there is no IMRC control . SVT Focus was built 2002 thru 2004 . yellow valve cover was a powder coat option from RMSCI . factory color is silver.
