Bad Drifting - Saudi Style

Saudi versions of "Hey Bubba, watch this": . . . . . What surprised me is how few spectators try to get out of the way.

Wow, I guess seat belts and prudence are optional in 'The Kingdom'.

Yeah this is some kind of 'sport' over there. The goal is to drive fast, preferably in traffic, and floor the car while at the same time stomping the brake and zig-zagging down the road. Its like street racing except from what I have seen nobody wins. And like you may have noticed, seat belts seem to be as rare as brain cells in money-land. The spectators are under the same spell as the guys crowding around the corners in Rally Racing. I have little to zero sympathy.

Coffee break, We in the west see it as stupid.

The summer of 2012 the wife & I went on holiday to Urgup & Istanbul Turkey. When I asked our guide Mahmet about all the crazy drivers we saw. He told us that it was simply the view of most Muslim's that if it's their destiny to die, Then so be it. So they truely don't give a rat's behind. So whether they live or die from driving on the wrong side of the road or drifting it was obviously meant to be. Mahmet pointed out (thankfully) that he is an EASY Muslim & prefers to drive properly & have a beer with his lunch.

I guess that point of view can explain why the Middle East is the home of exploding clothing.

So tell me.

Does each of these idiots, that get killed, go to heaven with the virgins.

If so then there must be one hell'va lot of virgins up there.

Will heaven ever run out of virgins?

If heaven runs out of virgins, will the bombers stop?

Just asking.

I only spent six months there in 1992, commuting six days a week between Eskan VIllage and Al Kharj, or about 100KM each way. Their philosophy--religion actually--is that "If Allah wills it..." it will be so. If Allah wills them to be hit, no amount of jumping, running, dodging etc. will save them. If they get hit, and Allah wills it, they will survive. Unfortunately, I saw a couple of bad accidents where this was applied in lieu of proper first aid.

Looks like good population control. Lets bring it to the states!

I wonder if this could be used at border crossings as a prerequisite for entry into the U.S.? Illegal 'alien' drifting. If you survive, welcome to 'merica. :driving: . . . . :flag:

  • 1 month later...

When I worked in Malaysia (65% Muslim) in one of the Muslim states, one could always tell when the mosque was out the locals would pass you on blind corners on the opposite side of the road. The thought being Allah was their co-pilot.
