  1. Hay Greg, I though that was the new rear bumper standard for Canada..... :jester:
  2. I ordered a new water pump last night and it should be at home when I get their this evening. I have also heard that the impeller on the MGB water pump can erode or even come off the shaft and still work under low RPM's but not at the higher rev's so that is the next step before pulling the head. I have checked for the radiator with the cap off to see if I had bubbles in the coolant while the engine was running and did not see any. I also checked the plugs to see if their was any dis-color and found them all to be very close to the same goldern tan color. Thanks for the ideas and I will post what I find tonight after I pull the water pump. Note; Just sitting here thinking about when I rebuilt the engine I do not think I replaced the water pump but will have to check my records but I am perty sure I did not due to it looking in good shape at that time, boy I hope it is the cause and not a cracked head or blown head gasket or some unseen blockage in the coolent system.
  3. Hi Mazda, Yes I have checked the fan belt and even bleed the system after replacing the thermostat and flushing of the system even replace the radiator cap with a new one.
  4. Well here is my problem with my 7. My car has developed an overheating problem the last two times I have had it out and taken it above 65mph (freeway speeds) for any period of time and I can not seem to find out what is wrong with it. A little history about the car. Rebuilt engine 3 yrs ago (MGB 1800cc) and have driven it a lot since then. Ok I know it is an MGB engine. Oil pressure stays at 30lbs at idle once warm and maintains close to 60 lbs when running hard and 45 to 50 while running around. Good even compression on all cylinders. No evidence of water in the oil or oil in the water. New radiator when building the car 3 yrs ago. Have flushed the system every year as preventative maintance. Auto-X numerous times no problems and lots of hard spirited driving in between. Never over heated before the last Auto-X. Car puked about a quart of coolant at the auto-x after the second run and I replenished the coolant after it cool down. Temp prior to boil over was constant 185 degrees. Temp reached 220 degrees during the first run and cool down to normal after first run and did not boil over or at least over flow my overflow tank. Second run temp climbed to 195 degrees after stat up and stayed their through the run but at the end of the run climbed to about 225 and then cooled down to just under 200 degrees with the car idling, this is when I noticed that my overflow tank was leaking coolant in the parking area. Third run after starting the car temp climbed to 200 degrees and then pegged my gauge after the run and deposited a large quantity of coolant in my trailer. Next day serviced radiator and let car sit at idle with no overheating and temp stable at about 200 degrees by my gauge in the dash without the fan being turned on. Pulled thermostat and replaced with new one that is for 185 degrees, flushed system and checked for water in the oil (negative) and test drove around the neighbor hood with no problems, temp stayed at 185 degrees. Next day I was going to drive it into the office and headed out watching for any sign of overheating, everything seemed good till I entered the freeway and got up to the speed of the traffic (about 75 mph) noticed the temp climbing through 200 degrees so I returned home and switched cars. Later that evening I drove the car around the neighbor hood with out any over heating (temp stayed at just over 185) and the coolant level looked to be correct after returning to the garage. Today backed the 7 out of the garage and went for a nice little ride through town without any overheating (temp stayed at about 185 degrees) even in stop and go traffic in town. Headed out of town to go cruse the hills and jumped onto the freeway for about two exits or about 3 miles at speed and the temp when up between 200 and 210 so I departed the highway and hit the side roads to see if it would cool down which it did at first (about 195) so I headed for home. About two blocks from the house the temp started to climb and by the time I was able to get into the drive and put a garden hose on the radiator face it was over flowing my spill tank (temp reached 220) again and finally started to cool back down while idling and the garden hose running on the front of the radiator. Anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong before I pull the head to check for cracks. :7frog:

  11. Hello Morgan, Boy keeping my mouth shut for the past couple of days about your aquision of Al's car was tough. I am glad that you and Al were able to come to an agreement and that someone with the passion you have for cars is the new owner. Al so you know when you read this post Orange will be in good hands and well taken care of. When you head up to Mondo's realm you need to stop in Ventura and I will also get my car out and we can make a day of it also or you can just giv me a shout and we can explore the roads between Ventura and LA along the coast. It was neat to read Al's urgency to get orange out of the store display in NY knowing that you were going to be the next owner. Can only imagine how anxious you must now be until you have Orange in your garage.
  12. Is that not the pond that is usually at the bottom of the ski slope:d :d
  13. Hi Morgan, I have to say I know of you and your work and car from another group I belong to. Glad to know that you are interested in a 7. :7fume: Folks if you want to see some very high quality photos make sure you check out Morgan's web site...and I have no affiliation with him just that his work is very very good as you will see.
  14. That is one very nice 7. Looks fast just sitting their in the drive way.
  15. Check the basics, air, fuel, spark. If you have points and a mechanical distributer check the points for the correct gap as I once had a Porsche that was running great and when I stopped at a stop sign so did the engine and it would crank and had fuel and air and spark but would not run due to a second set of points that controled the fuel injection fireing even though I had sparks at the plug wires. Drove me nuts until a guy stopped and showed me were to check and helped me regap those triger points and told me to get a new set as the were worn and needed replacing. By the way do your cheeks hert from the smile on your face from that first ride in your 7. HAve fun.
  16. Most likely the hand brake is mounted to a secondary set of master cylinders to control the brakes. Back for the rear wheels, Center is nutral, Forward is the front wheels. Just my guess with that setup from looking at the bottom of the lever.
  17. quote=yellowss7] out for a leisurely jaunt on course. http://usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/716264043_warminster 08.jpg Hi Tom, Looks like you were having fun on that leisurely jaunt and saving weight (shaving weight) with out the rear fender or is that to help hit those cones that don't get out of the way.:jonautox: I also ran my first auto-x for this season out here in SoCal last Sunday (04/20/08) and only placed 24th out of 80. Had to run in the X class with the big guns (14 cars in class) and placed 5th in class. My fastest time was 64.447 seconds clean (65.315 first run clean, 64.447 second run clean and 64.587 third run clean) and the FTD was 57.369 seconds by a full race Porsche GT3 also in X class so I don't feel to bad about my times even though their were a lot of very fast and well preped cars at this auto-x (those Honda Civics can really screem).
  18. I figured I would post this for anyone who might be interested in a weekend at ButtonWillow Race track. http://www.mossmotors.com/SiteGraphics/Pages/buttonwillow2008.html :7fume:
  19. Hi Gert, That is a lot of snow along the side of the road on that trip. Very Cool....I also like the music as it fits the video.
  20. Here is a short video that has a real great action shot at the very end. This video is Keith Tanner and his 7. I do not remember were I first saw it or where I down loaded it from but I don't belive that Keith will mind. Enjoy. http://www.usa7s.com/forum/uploads/MHKflyer52/seven_remix.mov
  21. Here ia a clip of Keith Tanner and his 7 and one of the best action shots I have seen is at the very end of the clip.
  22. Hi Al and Mazda, I must have missed this post as I just read it and figured I can help and due this if it is still needed. I meet the requirements that I see so far....Car nut....Crazy :crazy:for volunteering....Disorganized and a procrastinator at times:rofl:.
  23. Hi Dermot, I can not say it is the ideal tool kit to carry in your car but Allied Tools has a small portable tool kit model # 59096 that has both metric and american standard tools in it that I carry 90% of the time in my 7. It fits nicely just in front of the passanger seat on the floor as it is approx 15" long X 12" wide X 3-1/2" deep and stores 131 tools all with their own individual space for storage. I also carry a cell phone and have a AAA membership for those times when I might need a tow truck to get me back home. So I guess the best tool box is the cell phone and AAA membership as they will get you home 99% of the time. :7frog: Knock on wood now as I have not had to use the cell phone or AAA tow as of yet with the 7 but I have used it for other autos that I due have and glad to have had both with me when needed.
  24. Yes the the child-like giggle was the best part of the video along with the stickers which will not last long. Have fun.
  25. Do I have a cool wife or what??!!:iagree: you do. Sounds and looks like you will both enjoy a 7 and maybe should consider a his and hers:d Nice pass in the S's Sandy in the second photo......photoshop is great isn't it......:jester:
