  1. Don't be put off by Kitcat's remark. "And I promptly burned my bare leg on the exhaust pipe’s heat shield." I assure you that you will only do it once!
  2. Heat? Try driving a Seven in 100 degree ambient weather. I've never noticed much heat except in winter, when it is welcome. The only hot spot was where my knee touches the tunnel. Felt like a proper burn. Fixed it with a pad glued to tunnel. Welcome to the nut house.
  3. Yes! Who doesn't love seeing someone else's project?
  4. You might find a local company that services injectors. They may be able to check the spray to see if the 4 are the same. Should not cost much and probably could use cleaning anyway.
  5. Agree. Our most likely fire is B (gasoline, etc) or C (electric) as stated. "A" would be small to start with, we are not an 18 wheeler with a tire fire. Anyway, water is the best thing for A, even if it's a ditch of water. C is usually going to be preceded by the smell or something not working, or smoke getting out of the wires. That's what the ignition switch or master battery disconnect are for, and the dry chemical BC if needed. B is the only one that really scares me and the BC is fine for that. If the one on the car is not enough, hopefully help arrives with another. Been on both ends of that. (IMHO, US DOT & WSO Safety & Security Director, ret.)
  6. If you end up having the wheels rebalanced, if you can still make out the color dots on the tires, insist that they use them properly. Bridgestone has a good article on that. It can really make a substantial difference in weights required to balance, but few tire techs will bother.
  7. Great photos. After you get the Seven built, you can look for the Turner. It should be just about the right size for your son by then.
  8. Outstanding story and car. Perfect for our drizzly Sunday with my afternoon coffee.
  9. Wow. 20 years with a car. Good job. I doubt many have done that, even with a sedan or pickup.
  10. "The toughest part I am having are left hand turns, not because the steering is on the right, but due to how low and long the car is. Need to nose out. " Nose out is very dangerous. Since all vehicle in the opposite left turn lane are bigger, we in a RHD especially are in a tough spot. I know 2 people that have had these "nose out" accidents and they were in regular, small cars, not RHD Sevens. We have to either be patient or watch for gaps and count cars when approaching, while we can still see something. "Taking control of the intersection" is legal in most states. You pull STRAIGHT in towards the middle of the intersection on GREEN. When the light turns red, you can still go , because you entered the intersection legally. Of course, you have to watch for the yellow-to-red runners, but starting traffic should yield to you. Still more dangerous than patience. Alternate plan is avoid it. If you know the area, like a city, sometimes 3 right turns is easier and takes the same time. This thread seems to be dissolving into a defensive driving course. Has Saudio had enough?
  11. "Still getting used to RHD on tiny US back roads, and gauging my distance from the lunatics coming the other way just a little over the center line. And still trying to figure where exactly to look when changing lanes and backing up. Not being an owl, I can only twist my head so far." (I dDrive a RHD Birkin.) This is not the optimal way to go about it. Do not worry about the edges. Aim for the center. Say we are blasting between two close obstacles (left and right). If you look at one obstacle, you will hit it. We go where we look. Aim at the center of where you want to go. With a little experience, your brain knows where your body center is compared to the car center. The center of the car through the center space. Always follow the middle path, Grasshopper. Also be sure side mirrors are adjusted to show "blind" areas, not the rear. No blue sky in side mirrors. The rear is taken care of by the central mirror. Convex helps.
  12. It takes training and different equipment to fight the type fire of the batteries. Even many regular municipal fire departments are not yet prepared, so some electric car fires are still just left to burn themselves out. That poses dangers to everyone and everything around, even the pavement. Much like a tire fire, it takes a LOT of water, but on a more massive scale. Drag it to standing water is the easiest (pond), but rarely convenient. A private race track simply can't begin to handle it.
  13. Wow. You might win a prize for that fast draw. I checked the email from BAT and web site just about 15 min. ago and this was not there. Insider connection?
  14. The trailer is now available without waiting for a buyer for the Birkin. I'll give i a week here, then try Craigslist.
  15. There is nothing like trying one for size. I have 11 1/2 - 12 shoes and fit OK in the Birkin, Did move pedal box for length and bent the brake pedal a bit. Driving shoes with no edge to the soles are a must.
  16. Just look at the old Lotus Sevens. Cushion across the back and another under the butt and you're set on that end. If your feet are proportionally large, just consider surgically removing the small toe and associated area from each foot. Or maybe just a hand operated clutch and spread out the brake pedal. If no-one has done that yet, be sure to set up a separate thread. Easy! Welcome to the nut house.
  17. Alrighty. For all the Cat owners, don't miss your chance for the groovy 50th anniversary stuff: https://caterhamcars.us16.list-manage.com/track/click?u=96e29daa32694c3df6b45d9a4&id=db7b3c5961&e=b0f2468ef5 And since a Cat is just such a touring type car, they are calling the luggage GTO (sic) something. "Last but not least, we have teamed up with Jordan Bespoke to launch the Official Caterham 420 CUP GTO kit bag and Motorsport GTO helmet bag." Certainly sound classier than BilpShift. Happy shopping.
  18. Old people may remember the Kougar mostly because Tony Hogg (R&T editor) had one before he got his 427 Cobra.
  19. Nice. Will you leave them unlabeled, since it's your car and you know which is which, or label some way? Really looks the business.
  20. Ha, let me know if you find one. The one I mentioned was a one off by Hagerty. For some years there was a big one every week at the BMW dealer in Plano. They quit and then something I do not understand transpired. I never though C&C was some kind of franchise, but the news said Rawlings of Gas Monkey Garage bought it. He made promises of how he would get it going bigger and better. Now there are only one-offs a couple times a year. All British & European Car Day at Whiterock lake is coming 5/7. Park Cities Historical Preservation has a nice car show 29 Apr 2023 10:00 AM . I don't know of much else in DFW other than motorsport events. Burleson Park at SMU
  21. Now that's a great photo. Truly a wonderful job well done. A perfect memorial. I salute you, sir.
