Where can I get a nose cone for a Series 2, Lotus 7?
IamScotticus replied to Bill's topic in General Sevens Discussion
There's height difference on the front, also. I'd like to know that measurement. -
I think the poll is overly complicated. My intention was to provide something more interactive for everyone to see, including Daniel at Blipshift. For the next shirt run, and I can now, is take requests on PM and edit the top post with the current commitment number.

i know I can't go back and make additional votes. I can't see the other choice buttons to click on. So, yes, once the vote choice/s are submitted, one cannot go back and add. I created this problem because I started the poll with only two choices, some voted on those, then I added the other shirts so those members can't vote on the other shirts. What I need is the voting to be dynamic so members can add/remove votes any time. If I have to delete the poll and start over, I can do that too.

@JohnCh help! I checked multi question vote

Not necessary, the purchasing will be done at BlipShift
-
I am going to expand the poll to all the shirts. Your ID is visible so I can know who wants what design, or multiple designs. I will keep track so no one gets skipped. When a singular T-shirt design gets 20 votes, I will contact BlipShift and get the color options. When the particulars of the deal (T-Shirts only), are ratified, and BlipShift is ready, and the purchase portal is created, I will contact all those who voted and make a general announcement on this thread with a link to the limited time purchase portal. Anyone will be able to buy the shirt at that time, the more the better. Then the portal will close, BlipShift will do the run for one design, and then continue its regular rotation of auto art offerings. At least that's the plan. This is NOT a negotiated price deal. Purchases will be just like buying any shirt from BlipShift, shipping charges and all. I think it's very generous of Daniel to stop the presses just for us. And, if this goes well, it won't be the last time. I hope. What I DONT want to happen is we get the offer then not show up with the minimum number of buyers.

Crossflow Cooling System -Overflow Tank or Expansion Tank
IamScotticus replied to KS7's topic in General Tech
@pethier Did you happen to save the radiator cap box, or know the part number? This is valuable information for the owners of Caterham Crossflows with the "special" alloy filler riser. Especially since the cap that fits perfectly isn't known to any OEM to any vehicles in the USA (probably is but..). The cap that was on mine when I got it, and I believe to be the correct part is Motorcraft 1613292. Credit for the pics: https://shop.ford.co.uk/products/ford-motorcraft-radiator-cap-plug I believe this to be a Mk1 Escort item. Not the housing, just the cap, which is interesting in that it is very deep compared to most caps. The problem some have had is they will find a cap that fits the neck diameter, but the depth, although close, won't be sufficient to seal on the bottom. They will have coolant blowing out into the recovery tank and not pressurize the system. I find it interesting that the current "special" thermostat housing offered at Burton had the coolant hose barb reduced to 1-1/4" when the Kent standard hose size had been 1-3/8" for decades. -
Love that 7. Flared wings just have that classic 7 look. One of the quirky wonders of the 7. In 1960? When the first flared wings appeared on 7s, the open wheel had become a relic of the 1930s. Perhaps implemented as more of a compromise to capitulate with USA and other export regulations, regardless, the flared wings were/are an endurring touch of style that suit the 7 very well. Congratulations on a very nice 7.

Hi 7ers. To help us 7ers get the 7 shirts on Blipshift, I contacted BlipShift about 7 designs. Daniel is willing to open up a group buy opportunity for a minimum of 25 prints per design. I don't know if this includes coffee cups, hats, etc, or just shirts. I will ask. BUT it is a start. What I need now from you all is feedback to see how much interest there is in 7 swag. To help collect a list of interested buyers, I have a poll you can click on to show your interest in a shirt design, or several designs. When there are enough numbers to meet a minimum order, I will contact Blipshift. They will then provide a special group buy opportunity for us. Feel free to show your interest on the poll and or contact me through the Private Message. DO NOT post your address anywhere. This is not where any orders will be taken. Just express your interest. Dan was kind enough to provide some links to some designs. There are other designs from Blipshift and this list may get updated so check back. https://www.blipshift.com/products/add-lightness-ix https://www.blipshift.com/products/lucky-number-7 https://www.blipshift.com/products/drive-it-yourself https://www.blipshift.com/products/the-lightweight?variant=41450572251181 https://www.blipshift.com/products/sjeven-black-ii?variant=42158043562029 https://www.blipshift.com/products/sjeven-white https://www.blipshift.com/products/sjeven-iii Hey, where's the flared wings?

Crossflow Cooling System -Overflow Tank or Expansion Tank
IamScotticus replied to KS7's topic in General Tech
Appears @pethier has a standard open vented recovery tank system on a Kent based engine. The Crossflow, Pre-Crossflow, Lotus TC, BDR/A & Vegan Tune (VTA) were all Kent blocks and the last open recovery bottle and radiator cap cooling systems in Caterhams. All later engines had closed expansion tank systems. Other 7 builders like Birkin and Westfield would fit closed systems to Kent engines, like the Birkin pictured above. An open recovery tank can have a bottom exiting hose to eliminate a situation where a drain hose might pull out and suck air. That would be an improvement to an open system. One of the advantages of the open system is the recovery tank can be placed at any level and still work. This works well in a 7 as most chassis mounting locations are lower than the head. A closed expansion tank should be level with or higher than the highest coolant level. But in a well purged system, I think it could work a little lower. -

I don't think the S3 had enough time for someone to make a manifold, or Lotus didn't have any support from ACBC to fund it. But I'm sure everyone, especially Nearn, knew it would be an improvement over the downdraught. Those engines were dropped in just how they arrived from Ford, I understand.

Here's exciting news for us Unmutuals https://screenrant.com/christopher-nolan-the-prisoner-movie-better-bond/ Who shall play #6? Who could play #6? What kind of "Village" prison would be interesting to an audience today?

#6 went to Patrick McGoohan https://www.theunmutual.co.uk/lotus7.htm

Cut the bonnet hole and do the K&Ns. Not S2 correct, but the 7 has never been about "correct". IF the Crossflow were available throughout the production range, don't you think most S2s would have been built to the latter S3 spec sooner than they were? Of course they would have. I don't see anything non-Lotus about K&Ns on the left. The reasons Lotus didn't do it on the S2s were probably for economy or the oval filters weren't available. They suit the car well. The other option is bang out another bonnet for large filters. We all know if anyone can do that, you could.

I suppose this is the last 7, Esprit and Elan offerings https://us2.campaign-archive.com/?u=7503af90f99da6117258a460e&id=9fc78a465e -

I haven't found any. They do shirt runs for only a few days so the rotation is so short, and each design purchase requires the extra work of processing a payment to the designer. I doubt they have any interest in honoring individual requests. If I can email them I will request access to the back catalog to order 7 shirts to see if a group buy is a possibly. -

The Regular Summary of Classified Ads of Se7ens Found For Sale
IamScotticus replied to Croc's topic in Cars For Sale
The seller should be willing to send you a picture of the items with a unique identification that you specify, like the item with two dollar bills in a cross pattern. Something that verifies the seller is in possession of the item, or has access to it. If they can't provide proof, walk away. It hurts, but these frauds are really good at stealing photos and making listing for things they don't have. And the old "selling for a friend" or dead relative, etc. I bought a carb and manifold from a seller in France. I asked for a unique identifier which the seller did. All went well. -
Missed opportunities, right? If only I had snagged Ford.com, etc, when they were all available.
