  1. This should be an easy diagnosis for those of you with experience with the old stuff. I have a BMC-A with stock ignition and dual SU 1 1/4 carburetors fed by an electric fuel pump. Today was the second (and 3rd time) that it stalled at a stop and the car wouldn't restart. * had drive a few miles & temperature on was 180 F * There is fuel in the carburetors * The fuel pump ticks over * A hit of starter fluid on each air filter wouldn't make it kick * After waiting a bit with the bonnet off it seems to want to fire although it seems that it wants to fire when I turn the key from start to run. * Once restarted it seems like a cylinder or two are not contributing. After a just a bit of elevate rpm running it smooths out. Once home I let it sit for a while and it starts right up and runs fine. I will be replacing the fuel filter (it is due) points & condenser.
  2. Good luck. It scares me any time I have to make a hole. Measure, measure, measure.
  3. I have a hard wired controller from http://www.tekonsha.com the maker of Prodigy. After a few years my first controller failed. The second Voyager has been working fine for a year. A local trailer shop put it in for me.

    Log 32

Finally posted on youtube Sorry, there is no sound. My first and so far only video.
  5. Latest email: Lotus Owners Gathering 33 is just about 2 weeks away. We are not coordinating this message with any list of attendees, so you may be getting this either to entice you to come to LOG, or if you are coming to LOG 33 to let you know what we have planned once you get to the Finger Lakes region of New York State. On your way into LOG, please take advantage of one of our incoming visual rallies. You can download the rallies at http://www.log33.com. They start from basically the 4 points of the compass and it is a great way to see the wonderful back roads of New York State. And do not forget to bring you your models, photos, and artwork to enter in one of our LOG 33 contests. We are pleased to annouce that will have a real Lotus Elan 26R for the event as well as a Lotus Mk 10. Rare Lotus Cars and not often seen out of a museum or car collection. Schecter Guitars has donated a Lotus themed guitar, autographed by Mario Andretti, to be auctioned off at the Saturday night banquet. We will also be auctioning two Lotus 79 models, autographed by Mario Andretti, built by master modeler Jeff Morgan. Jeff has more then 250 hours into the building of the Lotus 79's and they are just a work of art. Dan Gurney has donated wonderful autographed prints from his All American Racing collection to also be auctioned off. One hundred percent of the auction proceeds will benefit the Grand Prix Mechanics Charitable Trust. The Trust was started by Sir Jackie Stewart to benefit the many people working in the pits, turning the wrenches of Formula 1 Racing. It is a wonderful cause and you can read more about the trust at http://www.gpmechanicstrust.com/. To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Lotus Ltd, forty bottles of Andretti Wine, autographed by Mario, will be given away as door prizes. Plus one of the Lotus 79 models will also go as a door prize. When you couple that more door prizes of photos and items donated by our wonderful group of LOG 33 supporters it just adds to the reasons to join us for a great Lotus weekend. We have had a change in our guest speaker. Our announced guest and speaker, Matt Becker, head of Test and Development at Lotus Cars has been called away by pressing Lotus business overseas. Gavan Gershaw, Technical Chief of Lotus Racing will be our guest for the LOG 33 weekend. Starting out in go karts and racing them till the age of 18, he has since raced many different types of vehicles. Gavan's involvement in the higher levels of LeMans type racing have led him to build a working relationship with many highly regarded racing engineers and racing teams. We welcome Gavan to LOG 33 and we hope you will show him your car and spend a little time getting some driving tips from one heck of a Lotus driver. And there is more. Bob Dance, chief mechanic for Team Lotus from the 60's to the 80's. will be our guest for the weekend. Bob was chief mechanic for Jimmy Clark, Graham Hill, Jochen Rindt, Emerson Fitipaldi, Ronnie Peterson, Mario Andretti , Aryton Senna, and Mika Hakkinen. Bob is just a treasure trove of wonderful stories about those heady racing days of Colin Chapman and Team Lotus. Steve Allen, accountant for Team Lotus and now for Classic Team Lotus is our guest, as is John Ambler. John was with Team Lotus from the Type 72 Formula 1 car to the start of the T92 Formula 1 car. John was part of the team that designed and built the championship winning Lotus 79, the twin chassis cars and member of the team responsible for the development and testing of the first F1 Team designed composite chassis. There is a lot going on at LOG 33 and promises to be a really fun time. If you are coming to LOG 33, look us up when you get there. If you are not coming, give it a second thought. It is not too late to join us but register soon as August 2nd, 3rd and 4th is just around the corner. For more information about LOG 33 please go to http://www.log33.com.
  6. Went to the 2006 Pumpkin Chunkin in Delaware. A catapult misfired throwing a pumpkin back toward the crowd. I lost it in the sun. Luckily it fell in the only open spot in crowd.
  7. 1958 Lotus Seven series 1 weighed in at 1016# with fluids and a full fuel tank. With me in the car the weights come out to a fair bit more. The corner weights were: 287 | 275 ----------- 295 | 393
  8. Onboard footage of American F1 driver Alexander Rossi driving a Caterham 485S around the Nurburgring (link courtesy of his Facebook page). His post doesn't say so explicitly, but I think that sounds quite a lot like Will Buxton riding shotgun. Since Buxton said on the air that he was getting a ride in a Caterham driven by Rossi it probably is him. http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/alexander-rossi-at-the-nurburgring-705351781

  10. If you have an English engine/transmission/axle just park it over a hole and let the oil leak take care of the critters.
  11. Local San Diego SCCA races in the stadium parking lot this past weekend had a lot of variety of cars Anyone recognize the perp? http://www.justacarguy.blogspot.com/2013/07/the-local-san-diego-scca-races-in.html
  12. State side try http://www.rdent.com/ Look under Carburetor then Linkage. I've been using one of these on my Elan for years. Nicely built and they work well.
  13. There is now an option to drive the Glen on Friday. Hope to see you there.
  14. Nice article about the Kansas City Art InstituteArt of the Car Concours event. See the pictures and write up concerning Bill Rinke's 1962 Lotus Super Seven. http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/the-art-of-the-car-concours-614031257 Letting kids sit in your car at a concourse is totally cool.
  15. I recognize the dull green Seven. A very original car.
  16. Went on a factory tour as part of LOG. Quite a big facility, nice, clean. They were building them old style, one at a time. A few months later they announced a new car. Hope this helps.
  17. I like the way the LF keeps peaking up over the windscreen with the bumps. Too cool.

    Fast Seven

The Stalker sounds like a salt flats car. Uber cool.
  19. Current cars by year: Dark Blue, Tan, Red, Silver, polished aluminum. I guess I'm - confused.
  20. Nice. The Lotus (that is the extended Lotus community of that includes Se7ens, Zanthros 23's, Westfield XI,...) needs more of this.
  21. After a LOG in Birmingham my wife & I left for a tour of the west coast in our M100. In New Mexico we were driving top down at extra legal speeds. There were lots of black dots on the road. After 10 minutes or so I realized they were moving! It turned out it was a tarantula migration. I didn't mention it to my wife - she would have insisted I stop and collect one for a pet.
  22. It looks very nice. I have a suggestion - shield that poor alternator from the heat of the exhaust.
  23. Rain can get every little bit of you. Wind buffeting can dry almost all of you. Ours is polished. Old guys at car shows touch the surface and ask if it is stainless steel. Wear long sleeve shirts - it shields you from the sun, stones... Cary hearing protection and spare wrap-around safety glasses when giving rides. Kids love to sit in the car. I smile a lot when I'm in the 7. You always look good in a 7.
  24. A disappointing day for both teams.
