panamericano
Croc, Glad you're back. Apparently the rest of us are too lazy to use a bot to plow through the whole interweb thing. Re: "Don't know why this has not sold as it is a solid spec and looks to be in decent condition - I guess potential buyers don't like purple?" I knew a guy trying to sell a 289 Cobra, in its original color, brown. Couldn't sell it, Couldn't sell it... Sprayed it red and upped the price $10,000 (back in the days of $50k) SOLD immediately. Oldfart
Birkin in PA for $22500 Looks interesting and worth a closer look. http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/cars-for-sale/birkin/s3/1800848.html Welcome back Croc. I want to to go look at this Birkin. It worries me a little that when I asked the seller why there were so many rusty parts on the car & if it was kept outside he said, "It was outside for a period of time". I guess as long as the price is right it doesn't really matter. I have to go see if I can fit in it.
Croc
It looks like the Birkin that was at Ragtops & Roadsters in PA for a period of time but in obviously not as well looked after condition? Their website does not show the sold cars any more so I cannot prove my theory. If it needs a lot of fettling then you have to ask if it is worth it at that price? Maybe not as replacing rusty parts can be pricey.

It's got to be the same car, as how many owners placed those tacky engine size and type stickers on the left rear of the car (can barely see them to the left and under the spare tire). Croc
I suspect that is a straight through exhaust. I would be baffled if it is not. And yes the stuck on badges at the rear were what triggered my memory along with the pool ball gear knob. Still nothing wrong with buying a car needing a bit of work if the price is right. A silver painted car is actually far better than bare ali since a nice wash and polish of paint is far easier than a full ali polish exercise. Croc
I suspect there is a touch of subtle humor in your response Taber as the seller is confused. Robin Hood cars was created in 1984 and started making seven replicas in 1987. Lotus had long stopped selling the seven by then having sold the rights to the Nearn Family doing business as Caterham Cars in the early 70s. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Hood_Engineering There are many observations I could make but there is no point being bitchy this morning. The buy it now price of $49k does raise eyebrows - that would be a world record price as Robin Hood's don't go for that price in the UK. In fact I think you could probably buy, ship and import 4 Robin Hood's for the same money as this single one. So to the seller - good luck with the sale! Kitcat
I love that most of the Robin Hood seller's sentences end with an exclamation point! (Comes "with a heater!"). And many sentences start without a capital letter. The whole thing seems totally bogus. IF this were a '80 Caterham of similar spec, it might be worth $15-18K? Have to hope any buyer sophisticated enough to be attracted to a se7en will also be sophisticated enough to know this price is a multiple of the car's actual value. Croc
Kitcat - Its been a long time since I saw an older Caterham go for under $20k ($19k driver car at Dick Brink's in 2007/8 area or the S&S sale of a mechanically ok but aesthetically beaten up SCCA car at $13k in 2012?). If this car were a Caterham in the condition as the Robin Hood presented it would be $25k or higher easily. The 80s red crossflow Caterham at Kampala/Sonoma that has been bouncing on and off market for the last 2 years at $24/25k could have sold at $21/22k a few times but it is in driver condition whereas the Robin Hood is presented very well. I think that is the best floor in the market right now for a Caterham. Well after reading that spectacular thread on the Road & Track article which has seen some old antagonists come flying out of the woodwork with handbags drawn, I am in a good mood right now. Nothing like a good food fight to begin the morning. Might as well list the Robin Hood again - this seller needs all the luck he can get plus a wood duck... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lotus-Super-Seven-super-seven-/262249673456?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3d0f4c72f0:g:ZdEAAOSwqYBWntwk&item=262249673456 1972 Lotus 7 S4 in black.
