BWTM. One year at the Carrera Panamericana, a beautiful (German team) 300SL roadster showed up with just a single driver side roll bar. Tech rejected it and informed them that they needed a 6 point cage. They went to a muffler shop and had one fabbed of exhaust pipe. Their further disregard for sanity was shown on a top speed stage where the navigator unstrapped so he could get completely out of the wind stream (small aero screens). PS Back in the day, there are countless photos of Jim Clark et al with helmets higher than the roll bar.

Nice to see it parked next to Charlie Barnes's McLaren. Charlie was instrumental in making me a sportcar nut. He raced a little Merlyn sports-racer and played lead back and forth with Ken Miles in GT350 R002. It was the first race for a GT350, at Green Valley Raceway. Miles would blast by on the front straight and Charlie would repass him on the back section. Great fun. I hope he is doing well. Haven't seen him in a couple years.

I agree that the Cherokee led to the SUV craze. I don't care. My 2 favorites made the list. I only have a Seven because I realized that I will never be able to afford a 289 Shelby Cobra or an AC 289 Sport, coil spring (best of the line). I think many of the other suggestions are worthy, but we have surpassed the 100 limit. Can't believe they had a R5 (leCar), but not an R5 Turbo. Drove one right after a 308, and the Renault was so much better. As per the usual, Croc started it.

All the Nth degree things. Sometimes you know, sometimes not. A friend was big into turbo charging engines and started to have his intakes, ports, etc. honed with an abrasive slurry (forget the name of the process). Conventional wisdom was that this is a waste of time, since the turbo will push as hard as needed or tolerable, but in the end it did yield HP. PS: Ferrari boxer engines.

And, if ordering a trailer. it is usually easy to specify the same bolt pattern as the truck/car. That makes it easy to have 2 spare tires.
