    heat shield 1

    From the album: car pics

  3. For some reason, the pics of my heatshield will not post (click my name and check my photo album). I bought some heat material to go between the muffler and shield from here (not cheap) and it works great, just warm to the touch (and that's regular paint, not for heat): http://www.koolmat.com/heatmast.shtml
  4. For some reason this cracked me up
  5. As long as you have the SB100 paperwork they just go thru the motions... entering VIN, hooking up for smog readings. Just make sure you tell him you want it registered by the style of the car; 62 Lotus 7 or some year before smog. Someone had a problem because they referee put in the motor year instead, basically defeating the whole purpose.

    Bathtub test

During a visit to the seniors home, I asked the director how do you determine whether or not a patient should be institutionalized? "Well," said the director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup, and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub." "Oh, I understand," I said. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup." "No." said the director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?"
  7. Never seen that before... clever
  8. Will be watching to see what you come up with.... kind of hard to swap out though as most of us have O2 sensors just past the collector. Plus I'm kind of partial to my new exhaust shield;)
  9. Man, I like the looks/workmanship of your car Jim. Too bad you have to go thru all that hassle with the lights. I'd sure like them to show you where it says that the year designated for SB100 is only for smog... Makes it kind of impossible to make a replica (or just redundant to put one type of lights on for one inspection and then anything you want after that).
  10. Computer? First it's them fancy headlights of yours and now your talking inspection shops with computers;) Actually, mine just filled out some half sheet form ... part of the package of forms like the one the CHP has to sign off on to make sure your engine isn't stolen (the officer I had really liked my car and after looking around basically took my word for it that the numbers on the form were the same as on the motor). Guess it's the ying/yang part of life.... I didn't get the SB100 cert first time around but the paperwork/certifications went smoothly the next year when I finally got it.
  11. That's the era I remember as a kid... love the GT40, Lola's, Chevrons etc... also the great racing between mustang, camaro, javelin..
  12. Jim, Did the DMV give you a list of inspection shops? I think you went to someone who is really a stickler... perhaps you ought to try a few shopes before going thru all this hassle. Looking to see if it has marked switches seems a bit over the top. The idea of replica cars is to copy them; if they didn't come that way... That being said, I think someone one here found this website; it has tiny stickers for dash switches. http://augerresources.com/
  13. I've gone to the MotoGP races for years now and the dates are too close for me. Your right on reservations... A friend books ours 6 months early; and they're are people calling at the same time (mid-night) as that's the earliest this particular hotel takes RSVPs (and they don't raise their rates for big weekends). But now that I'm off sportbikes and have a 7, maybe next year.
  14. I have these on my 67 truck and thought they'd be great for a 7.... the S2K uses 5 inch lights so wouldn't work. http://www.itsasnapwireandcable.com/7_halogen_headlights.htm
  15. The bottom allen bolts actually just go thru the fiberglass hood (guess you have a cowl) with big fender washers and nylock nuts on the inside. I think I got the wind deflectors from a Caterham dealer back east and the hinges for them are a Ford Cobra part.
  16. Well, for something totally different... and if you don't have doors/top. Definately doesn't need to be that thick of stainless but it was free.

    To RC pilots

This thing looks pretty cool... especially with it's GPS unit http://mikrokopter.de/ucwiki/VideoAbspielen?id=188
  18. That's one of might pet peeves; people driving all the way up the open lane after the "merge sign" and then trying to squeeze in. I think we've all wanted to do that.... would of loved to have seen his face
  19. Not to keep the hijacking going but Skip's 7 is one of the finest examples out there... probably my favorite all purpose 7.
  20. This is pretty neat... just plug in address and cruise around. Heard Google has the same thing http://www.vpike.com/
  21. I like that kind of stuff... the porsche, not so much the mustang. Love "sleepers" If I had that kind of disposable cash I'd get that black VW bus that kicks ass on the Nurburgring. And sits 6 in full harness seats/roll cage;)
  22. Well not really us..... just our grandkids;) When speaking of climate, even 30 years is a speck in time. The earth has been warmer and cooler. We have to be careful as some of those drastic looking charts of a few decades actually start at the coldest time in a century so they will naturally be skewed. Also, the climate will change... it's never stayed the same. So how much influence we can have is the real question. I pretty much think along your lines Mopho, but mainly for clean air. It's pretty bad here in the armpit of the Central Valley. We have to move away from fossil fuels for a variety of environmental and political reasons. I'm trying to do my part with the installation of solar panels this past summer. Though I'm not really sold on the "cap & trade" solution. As expensive as some propose, I'm afraid it would be cheaper just to move people over the next hundred years to higher ground and to the cold climate areas that will warm up.
  23. Man, checked out all those garages and didn't see one Lotus 7.... and I bet they call themselves car enthusiasts;)
  24. In California, the car has to be 1975 or older. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/smogfaq.htm#BM2535
