  1. Once or twice... Hang in there
  2. Crossed wires??? Sounds about right. I sometimes wonder if some of these things are intentionally done so we can have the full experience putting these puzzles together?
  3. I’ve got some diagrams if you pm your email address should you proceed with the change
  4. Technically i think it 'may' be possible. practically i don't think so. When i changed mine I remember needing to remove the front cover (and crank pulley) which could not be done with engine in the car. In theory if you are able to get the tensioners disengaged, you should be able to do it with engine in. Either way you'll be getting intimate with your car. let us know how you make out p.
  5. I ordered bigheads from a fibreglass supplier in the UK as I couldn’t find them anywhere domestically at the time. Make sure you order extras! So far they work great http://www.ecfibreglasssupplies.co.uk

    Suspension

Does anyone have a part# / source of Birkin suspension bushings? (wide-track S3) Mine became very squeaky last year. Polishing and treating the metal insert with anti-seize was recommended. Finally getting to this maintenance I found the flange on one of the nylon inserts has cracked and needs replacement.
  7. Come to think of it- I may have a spare set...
  8. That makes sense: I know the Birkin rear calipers are VW with a little machining for clearance
  9. ear plugs and helmet when driving long distances on interstates. I put my ezpass on the top right corner of windscreen: This is a must for all the tolls between Boston & Millville Oh.. and watch out for moving chicanes in NJ. BlackHole very nicely handled a full sized mattress in the center lane two years ago. p.
  10. Wait for Lucky to gloat over his fish & chips run.
  11. Beware the road salt
  12. I’ve used U-Haul trailers several times. there are two versions of the same small car hauler: The older Painted trailer requires additional ramps to load a seven Due to under carriage clearance. the Newer galvanized trailer model does not. - see you in June. Pm me for additional details
  13. ? Depends on the kitchen counters?
  14. Whatever keeps the lights on. I would like to see the lady get in for a second drive. So far SWMBO is only up for one drive/year
  15. Extra parts? Those are standard for all seven builds. Love the color
  16. Congrats Bruce! Glad to hear you're getting another seven
  17. Where are you sourcing your aluminum tube? i have two in my system but have never been fully satisfied with them
  18. Sounds interesting: you should bring it to the Mike & Tom's annual get together.
  19. you can also try BirkinUSA (Tbox). He may have one for the duratec builds he's been doing. Or perhaps Beachman?
  20. I use a gear puller and iirc a piece of flat stock with a notch for th column to grasp ontowhe avoiding scratching the hub
  21. My birkin (and I expect caterham) steering shaft has a splined end. You should be able to remove the hub and turn it 180* onto the spline. Be sure to make a witness mark from shaft to hub to realign it
  22. At least for the 2.0 curated there are two water outlet connectors: one plastic, one cast aluminum (same part number When I finally managed to get an aluminum one I had a fabricator TIG weld customization for my plumbing configuration and now have both temp senders in the primary water flow (ECU & dash display) This would eliminate the temp sender T-piece and grounding wire for it.
  23. 51°F and sunny in CT tomorrow Anyone up for one last drive of the year? (or Saturday if people are not available Thursday) p.
  24. Minnis - (food for thought) - I'm neither expert nor engineer, and have a different engine but will share my experience. In my Duratec i read/heard of drilling an ~2.5mm hole in the coolant thermostat plate to allow extra coolant through the engine. This was first proposed to aid air bubble clearance. After experiencing repeated overheating under load i drilled a second (3rd?) hole. This resolved my overheating issues on track. The engine now warms up nicely and runs at a consistent ~190°F around town and on the track. best of luck.
