  1. Jon if you aren't the most hardcore sevener out there then the other guy is flat out NUTS! :flag: I suspect you will be out playing in the snow with the seven doing donuts until the gas runs out. (I use to do that with my Spitfire, as it was the only time I could get the back end to come around unless I pulled up the handbrake. :yesnod: ) Stay safe! Tom
  2. Have to clean them up if you want a picture. It was not quite dry on the backroads thru the State Park. There is nothing special about them, just new Caterham wings with new Carbonfiber stoneguards and I had them Armourfended halfway to prevent excessive stone chipping. Tom
  3. As autox season is over, I took the slicks off, took off the ratty rear wings, put the new ones with the rear lights back on and put the street tires on and I made an appointment to get it inspected. The sun came out around noon, the temp got up to the mid sixties, and the roads started to dry up a bit. Started out on a trip to get it inspected. Wet leaves really are not fun :willy: however they do test your reflexes and keep the heart rate up. Lots of thumbs up, nice car mister, and general nods of appreciation. God I love driving this car. Hopefully we'll get a few more days in before its tucked in for its long winter nap. Hopefully all of you here in the east got out today. Tom
  4. I never ordered the weather gear for my Caterham as I knew I'd never be able to get in with the top up. However, Boxologist has a top with a neat feature that allows one to enter the car. It has a zippered or velcroed piece that opens up to allow one to get in and then reseal while sitting in the car. I'm sure he'll post a picture if you ask. Tom
  5. Ahhhh, they were stolen... Yeah, that's it they were stolen officer. I can tell you how to make an inexpensive set. But based on the info I just dug up, I think you're out of the woods on the bumper issue. That's why I put the details of the code in the post for you. So you could have it handy when you take it in. 6. I haven't seen any reference to that in the regs. If you drive less than 5000 miles a year, I believe you can be exempted from the emission test. Tom
  7. Did some more checking. Seems windhield minimum is 7 inches if orginally specified by a recognizied manufacturer...??? (b) Requirements. Glazing shall meet following requirements: (1) A windshield may not be less than 7 inches in vertical height on a street rod and 12 inches vertical height on reconstructed vehicles and specially constructed vehicles. If the original body configuration provided by a recognized manufacturer had a windshield of less than 12 inches, reconstructed vehicles and specially constructed vehicles may use the original windshield size, except that this size may not be less than 7 inches. the Bumper exemption seems to hold. Tom
  8. Roman. It's been 7 years since I went thru the process and there have been some new regs. I believe that reverse lights are not specified unless you have them then they must work. As for Windshileds, ... the following is from the Pa specialty vehicle inspection code. (2) Check the windshield and reject if one or more of the following apply: (i) A windshield is less than 7 inches in vertical height on a street rod. (ii) A windshield is less than 12 inches in vertical height, or the vertical height is less than what was originally designed, on a reconstructed or specially constructed vehicle. (iii) The windshields and side windows or openings do not allow the driver minimum outward horizontal vision capability of 90° from each side of vertical plane passing through fore and aft centerline of vehicle. The specialty vehicle inspection says that you need front and rear bumpers, but I found this reg... 1992 Amendment. Act 174 amended subsec. ©. § 4536. Bumpers. No person shall operate any vehicle upon a highway without bumpers of a type specified by regulations of the department in both the front and rear unless the vehicle was originally designed and manufactured to be used without bumpers. This section shall not apply to any special mobile equipment, commercial implement of husbandry or implement of husbandry that is not so equipped by the original manufacturer. The driver of a commercial implement of husbandry equipped with vehicular hazard signal lamps shall use the signals when the vehicle is traveling below the speed limit on any highway if the vehicle is not equipped with a rear bumper. (June 23, 1982, P.L.605, No.171, eff. imd.; Dec. 18, 1992, P.L.1411, No.174, eff. 60 days; May 20, 1993, P.L.30, No.10, eff. 60 days) Don't know what water that will hold with the inspection site though. Hopefully, your title gets thru without the specialty inspection site requirement. Oh, and inspection does require at least one rear view mirror. I'll keep researching too. Tom
  9. I love the way that car sticks!!
  10. Us Caterham types use http;//www.blatchat.com its the Lotus7club of Great Britian's site. Tech talk is great for xflows, Kseries, Vauxhalls, Zetecs' and Duratecs, as well as any other suspension, brake, electrical, suspension questions. However you now need to be a member to post. There are enough of us on here that are members who could post for you. Tom
  11. Roman, looks like you got it registered and inspected. Any trouble getting thru without a windshield or bumpers? Tom
  12. Very Nice!! Best of luck with it, It's a real looker! Hope to see you out autoxing soon. Tom
  13. Alright, I'll fess up. I failed with 78% That's why I built a Caterham, it just bolts together. You guys that build your own from scratch are special. :flag: Tom
  14. Sounds like New Zealand.
  15. I saw that Pa. also amended their regulations for registering special constructed vehicles this year. They have designated "approved" inspection sites to certify compliance with State regs. No longer can you just go to the local garage for the initial inspection. Will certainly complicate the process of registering a newly built seven in Pa. (bumpers, doors, emissions, etc.) Guess that just makes our currently registered vehicles worth more. Tom
  16. JBH, check out the Tire warmer thread down in Autox. Davemk1 shared the spring rates of his Birkin... "For what it's worth I'm running 350# springs in the front and 175# in the rear. If I were to change anything i'd drop them by 25# all round but It's not in the budget at this point. That said the set up works very well on my car as it sticks very well and has near ideal balance." My Superlight is sprung like yours. Interesting. Tom
  17. You think your teams are bad. How'd you like to have to watch the BEAGLES play. Good thing I went golfing yesterday instead of wasting my time on those bums. Tom
  18. The ad states that it's got a DeDion Rear. Also indicates it got the AP Surtrac Limited Slip Diff. Thats was a pricey option in 2000. I know as that's what I ordered on mine. As for changing the clams for cylce wings. You will need to get the correct wing stays, and wings. then fill the holes in the side skin where you removed the bolts and then repaint. Tom
  19. Al, My bet would be that you can't import it. Something to do with EPA regs, and DOT regs for cars. Our sevens come in as auto parts so don't get hung up on the regs. That being said I have seen one on the road here in PA. recently. Right hand drive to boot. Tom
  20. "Quirky" I'm sure you meant '"Classic" Unless you're building one with Cycle wings then I guess "Quirky" would be appropriate. Welcome! Tom
  21. Did you tell him its a winning autox car ? Let him know about this Club site and about the Scca Autox at Warminster on 10/28. Take Care Lance. Tom
  22. So are you now street legal in Pa? What were the comments on no windscreen? congratulations! Tom
  23. Just read a posting that said Lance just sold this car. Lance did it stay in the Philly area? Tom
  24. Just got in from a nice two hour long Blat. Perfect weather, no leaves on the ground, very little traffic and no school buses. I highly recommend taking advantage of this great weather here in the east. Hey EvilRome0, has your new 7 been delivered yet?? Let see some pics, and hear your impression of your first drive. And bring it out to the Autox at ripken next Saturday. Tom
  25. Technically you need to have at least half of your tires covered, in D and E Mod. In A Mod you can run with out. However, I've run without one on several occasions and as long as no one protests, you're probably ok. In a big event you might run into problems but in most local events, no problem. IMHO Tom
