This very chassis has raced during the Australian Grand Prix, Malaysian Grand Prix, China Grand Prix, Bahrain Grand Prix, German Grand Prix, Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, United States Grand Prix and Brazilian Grand Prix.

The main driver of that particular chassis was Giedo Van Der Garde.

The Chassis if of carbon fiber monocoque laminated from carbon epoxy with honeycomb + kevlar structure.

Its weight is 642 kg (1,415 lbs) including driver and fuel.

The car was using the Renault RS27-2013 2,400cc V8 engine, naturally aspirated with 18,000 RPM limited including KERS.

Transmission was a Red Bull Technology 7 speed semi automatic gearbox.

Power output was 750-830 hp at 18,000 RPM depending on KERS mode.

This car - as it is now - is a rolling chassis with no engine or drive train. But some options are available to complete it to make a fully driveable race car.

This is the last generation of F1 cars to use the V8 naturally aspirated engines, making it the most modern F1 car you can actually drive after fitting an engine and drive train.

Croc and gang, I was thinking about pulling the trigger on this F1 car until I read that for 1/2 a million $1's that you don't even get an engine or transmission. Now if it were 1/10 the price, it would be on my short list and I would put an LS3/525 engine and transmission in it. That would fit my budget much better. The video was amazing how the driver's could take all that raw horsepower and play with it like it was a toy. I can't even imagine that level of car control. Oh well, I guess it won't be on my Christmas shopping list.

Actually, having owned that car and knowing its history along with 5 other Stalkers and one I just completed building last year, with a new crate LS3/480 and all of the other components, it was a good buy. I had several conversations with the seller and it was a case of a couple of California shops not knowing what they were doing and floundering around while the seller was having to pay stupid California shop rates. Like most of our se7enesque cars, it will take some fiddling from someone who knows the car. I suggested to the seller that he direct the buyer to Scott Minehart who knows these cars better than anyone and have him straighten out the relatively minor problems that can be addressed. The fiberglass work is kind of hacked up a bit and I don't know what he can do cosmetically but I don't think that wouldn't even be a big deal with Scott's fiberglass skills. We have to remember that to replace this car would be on the order of about $60k so getting it for slightly less than $30k with the BaT 5% surcharge was a pretty good buy. In terms of lots of concerns and red flags, that was at a time that the seller bought the car and didn't know how to properly set it up. There are some relatively simple idiosyncrasies to the cooling system that neither the seller or the shops knew how to deal with which is common knowledge amongst us Stalker owners and likely lead to the destruction of the original motor and inability to get the new engine cooling properly for the track.

I think it is a lesson in connecting with the right people that know the idiosyncrasies of your particular se7en and getting sage advice from people that really know the equipment you are working on. There are lots of opinions/suggestions but I think a smaller percentage of people that actually know how to deal with the interesting variety of se7enesque cars and there problems that we are all interested in.

@Anaximander wasn't saying that brunton wasn't a very good deal, was just explaining the low offers. Maybe my post was poorly worded. Folks seemed scared off by the history and some half a**ed modifications. (Hacked up body, the extra bracing, unfinished framework, overheating, etc. If I hadn't just bought this Birkin I'd have been looking very seriously at that car and relied on the wealth of brain power here to make it better!

Brunton has been what I've wanted all along. Just haven't seen any good buys in the last year or so. That car was definitely a good deal.

@Cueball1 You ended up with a BEAUTIFUL Birkin! Stalkers are more brutish and in some ways less refined because they use a somewhat different philosophy than Chapman proferred. Fortunately, the eventual buyer of the XL on BaT will be using the car for track racing and with its mods and basic structure, it should be an absolute beast on a race track. It is true that our posts are merely two dimensional and it is sometimes difficult to fully express our thoughts and feelings about the subject matter that we are dealing with. However, it's the best we have going and I am glad that we all recognize that we are doing our best to communicate ideas and concepts about this unique class of cars.

My beautiful 1995 Caterham Seven Crossflow will be back on BaT at the end of the week or early next week. The buyer (sic) put me through hell for over 2 weeks. Won't go into the sordid details but he is never going to buy or sell another car through BaT and that is a good thing for all !!!!

I've noticed quite a few BAT re-listings in recently. Wonder if this is a trend. Could it be agents for other car sales sites seeking to damage BAT's credibility? Seems like there would be some expense involved.

I won't use the word "buyer". My understanding is the "winner" of the auction purchases a reasonable obligation for the seller to communicate which could end up in debate of terms and events before a third party. Think of a telemarketer that the seller agreed to interact with for a period of time and it may come down to party stamina. Can't sufficiently vet who might win an auction. Just another consideration. I'd use emails versus phone calls or at least follow up every call with email (i.e., "meeting minutes") for documentation with reasonable deadlines repeated as a footer/signature in every dry, direct communication, converted to pdf/print and archive everything as a permanent record.

I have worked in a business in which I witnessed many (understatement) classic cars found by scouts and brokers working for extremely wealthy foreign people who are buying up and adding to their personal collections or sell or give as wedding gifts. Its nothing for the agent to bid and secure and dump if the buyer in another time zone later rejects the car when he has time to look at his daily toy shopping list.
