U.S. Caterham site up

Recommended Posts

A dedicated site for Caterham U.S. is up and running.http://us.caterhamcars.com

They are offering kits as well as rollers, wasn't the original plan was only for rollers? The 7 160 model with the 3 cylinder Suzuki engine was shown when I first saw the site a few days ago but now it is not listed.

According to the information on this site, Jon at the former Caterham USA isn't even listed as a dealer. Is that correct? What happened to the stocks of parts he had.....

I was regretting the r500 purchase after seeing the r620 come out, but now that I've seen their new pricing I'm not feeling so bad any more :)

Plus the R500 is left hand drive, which most would consider a positive.

How do you find out what you will need to spend on the drive train?

There is a price sheet for engines and gearboxes. You can also look at gearbox pricing at the Caterham UK Online store. But simply expect to pay $1600 or so for a 5 speed and $3K for a 6.

You can get crate engine pricing from your Ford dealer. But simply... you can buy a Duratec 2l for mid 3K. I sourced used refurbished ones for $800 each.

YMMV

The power train options are available under the car tab click the "power train options" to download the PDF. It shows the 5speed as $2995 and the 6 as $5250 and the sequential as $13,500! The 140hp sigma engine lists for $7750,the 180hp Duratec $14,500, 240hp Duratec $17650 and a whopping $24,850 for the supercharged 310hp Duratec.

Those prices are insane.

The prices for Caterhams have always been a little silly in the USA, but this new venture takes it to a new level.

Anyways, while Caterham USA has decided to price it's 7,s through the roof and isolate their market to the few , the alternative manufacturers look better and better.

Remembering back to 2010, I think I paid $7K for a Quaife six speed sequential.

The Caterham pricing reads more like aviation industry standards. A couple of years ago, we replaced a simple thermos style coffe pot on one if our Falcon aircraft; a bargain at $700.00. I'm a bit more careful with the coffee pots these days. :)

Just read on the site that they claim the 480 is the fastest naturally aspirated Caterham they have ever sold, with a 0-60 of 3.4 and top speed of 140. Must have already forgotten about the 500 and CSRs. Perhaps they need a historian or at least a proof reader.

180 Hp (more likely 160 at the rear wheels), for $14,500? I paid $1K for a junk yard Duratec that made 160 hp at the rear wheels with the throttle bodies from my blown engine.

Come-on that was so long ago. Who can remember past yesterday's lunch? :boxing:

I hope the pricing is msrp only and that the real price you pay is somewhat reduced. You can see that the special launch drivetrain prices are hugely lower than the retail prices.

310hp supercharged with seq 6spd:

Launch: $14,500

Retail: $38,350!

With that retail price the 620R becomes ~$110k!
