Search the web for a local. I had high pressure hoses made by a roundy/round race specialist. First I tried an industrial place, but they didn't use materials compatible with gasoline (do check that). Then I found the right shop about 30 miles away, specializing in dirt track type stuff.

You might try your local Discount Tire. They may have something. My car came with lock type lug nuts. Instead of $20 at Autozone, Discount had it for $5. I guess they run across locked stuff a lot.

Welcome to another Birkin fan. Just a thought about your old car, from one who has done some such sleuthing. For a nominal fee and a form, you might look for it through the Mass. DMV. Worth a try. If that title was transferred to another state, they may show "title surrendered to (state)", in which case you can try there. Anyhow, putting on the table here is a very good first step. Do you have any old photos? Color, unique construction details, etc. I've had some race cars identified by electric boxes, roll bar gussets, etc.

Either a scam or a bunch here will wish they had beat you to it. As stated above, somebody has to see and touch it before spending much. If you can't find a friend to see it, you could check a nearby shop and for a nominal sum get an inspection.

Actually, I got it from an individual. It was already registered as a 1965 Lotus in another state, so no problems with registration in Texas, once I got the title. I have not talked to Dick in over a year. Just have not needed any parts. He got heavily into selling Porsches, but appears to be more retired now.

Happened to me several times, though I have never been stopped in the Birkin. About 9 years without the front plate = no problem. If you go the Antique route, get one of those old 1996 plates. If you find one, not a set, it should be cheap cheap cheap.

Scotticus, Great question that has not been brought up here before. Since Texas now has the Replica process, why not go to a friendly county tax office and try to convert to a Replica 1968 Lotus 7 title? The county will probably call TXDOT, which is easier than you dealing with them. Caterham is in fact a replica of Lotus, so no funny business. Maybe someone here has recently registered a Cat as a Replica in Texas. That would also save having to do smog test since Harris County is also EPA non-compliant. I think 1996 is still a year or two shy of being exempt? If you read the application for "Antique", it clearly says no replicas on the affidavit required. Keep us posted.

I have to wonder how much the original owner could have paid to keep the "salvage". We did that once and it was a good deal. Anyway, it's great to see someone get a sweet deal. Happy New Year indeed.

Wonderful. Since you said the AC works, that means the engine runs! Congratulations. For any nonbelievers in an open car with AC, I can say it can work. I once drove an Aurora in Texas heat and with an upright windshield (like a 7), the AC could be felt. All about the vents and blower I guess. Maybe I'll go soft with the Birkin.

At this rate, it's still cheap enough to make an engine swap feasible.
