  1. I suppose a legal answer would be "Hell No!", but who cares? Depends on how friendly you inspector is, if applicable. It appears that most police are more interested than concerned. I recently had one pull over to talk for about 1/2 hour. I was had the Brooklands with no wipers on. He was also anxious to hear (in a good way) my exhaust on take off. I put the wipers on once a year for my safety inspection. Fortunately my inspector doesn't ask to turn them on, as they would flop over the end of the glass and then be stuck.
  2. You're still special to your mom. Besides 49 to the USA is less than one per state. Special!
  3. OK, it's not much like a Seven. But, it nice that other wacko cars are available it liberated countries. 225 hp for 680 kg., no Miata here. https://www.devalliet.fr/modeles-mugello/ Anyway, my car has a Peugeot engine. My first proper sport car was a Dinalpin. Plus, I drove a Turbo 2 from Dallas to Toluca, Mexico, and never did figure out how to turn on the headlights (other than shunting fuses with a chewing gum aluminum wrapper. Love the nutty French stuff.
  4. I tried to look at early this morning and the link kept going back to the featured cars page. Could not get to the Westy at all. Maybe BAT is overloading it's self.
  5. The Miata is dead reliable even when driven hard. I know a bunch, including mine, that autocross with over 140k miles. Full RPM used (7,200) every run and no problems, just routine maintenance. Modern tech, materials and tolerances are just so much better. Plenty modern engines make over 100 hp/liter yet are reliable. Progress. It is a shame about the weight though. Better rust proofing and very few chassis problems and reasonable mileage. If someone built a really light sport car now, it would be fabulous. Under a million $ please.
  6. "I also repositioned the clutch input and bleed and simply filled the old holes with J-B Weld, then made a cover for the bellhousing - I did drop a screw in last summer." I am so delighted that a machinist as sophisticated as you can still find a use for J-B Weld. It's all beautiful work.
  7. " I said no and that was the end of the survey that was supposed to take 15 minutes. " That's your punishment for two "wrong" answers in a row. Survey indeed.
  8. Search the web for a local. I had high pressure hoses made by a roundy/round race specialist. First I tried an industrial place, but they didn't use materials compatible with gasoline (do check that). Then I found the right shop about 30 miles away, specializing in dirt track type stuff.
  9. This may be of interest to owners/enthusiasts of older car. Lotus Sevens, etc. Even my Birkin is over 30 years old. Deep thoughts about maintaining, restoring. I also recommend the Collier auto media web site. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/cars-yeah-with-mark-greene/id887248255
  10. You might try your local Discount Tire. They may have something. My car came with lock type lug nuts. Instead of $20 at Autozone, Discount had it for $5. I guess they run across locked stuff a lot.
  11. Great video. Thanks for showing it. You should hire the rig out to folks doing their fancy pants BAT blurbs.

    Bomb Girl

OMG! The lead photo looks like it's going to bite through the chain. Hope you're better off than the car.
  13. Welcome to another Birkin fan. Just a thought about your old car, from one who has done some such sleuthing. For a nominal fee and a form, you might look for it through the Mass. DMV. Worth a try. If that title was transferred to another state, they may show "title surrendered to (state)", in which case you can try there. Anyhow, putting on the table here is a very good first step. Do you have any old photos? Color, unique construction details, etc. I've had some race cars identified by electric boxes, roll bar gussets, etc.
  14. I'd prefer the pound of gold, thank you.
  15. And a Stalker: https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/d/dallas-brunton-superstalker-v6/7436217150.html
  16. In case one does not check the Locost site, here's one for sale: http://www.locostusa.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=21560&sid=c0b59c186c34235745355d68191d1a64
  17. Is Dave Bean still open? I thought I saw somewhere that they were selling everything to close?
  18. I have also noticed that he has not jumped into any of this discussion. However, I'm beginning to think John has a point on closing it.
  19. I think Croc was baiting us with that one. Probably just waiting to see how rude the remarks would be. So, I better keep my mouth shut. It does appear to have nice workmanship.
  20. Either a scam or a bunch here will wish they had beat you to it. As stated above, somebody has to see and touch it before spending much. If you can't find a friend to see it, you could check a nearby shop and for a nominal sum get an inspection.
  21. Congratulations, Doctor. You have had a busy couple months. Keep driving!
  22. OR the red Lotus Europa?
  23. Actually, I got it from an individual. It was already registered as a 1965 Lotus in another state, so no problems with registration in Texas, once I got the title. I have not talked to Dick in over a year. Just have not needed any parts. He got heavily into selling Porsches, but appears to be more retired now.
  24. "...As for the Popo, Im sure I wont have too much trouble. many times a cop will pull over because he's bored and wants to oogle. "License and insurance, please." Yes sir. "Do you know why I pulled you over today" No sir. "Because you're driving a sweet ride I wish I had but wifey would rip my ass up if I bought one of those"." So true. Happened to me several times, though I have never been stopped in the Birkin. About 9 years without the front plate = no problem. If you go the Antique route, get one of those old 1996 plates. If you find one, not a set, it should be cheap cheap cheap.
  25. Scotticus, Great question that has not been brought up here before. Since Texas now has the Replica process, why not go to a friendly county tax office and try to convert to a Replica 1968 Lotus 7 title? The county will probably call TXDOT, which is easier than you dealing with them. Caterham is in fact a replica of Lotus, so no funny business. Maybe someone here has recently registered a Cat as a Replica in Texas. That would also save having to do smog test since Harris County is also EPA non-compliant. I think 1996 is still a year or two shy of being exempt? If you read the application for "Antique", it clearly says no replicas on the affidavit required. Keep us posted.
