  1. I have also noticed that he has not jumped into any of this discussion. However, I'm beginning to think John has a point on closing it.
  2. I think Croc was baiting us with that one. Probably just waiting to see how rude the remarks would be. So, I better keep my mouth shut. It does appear to have nice workmanship.
  3. Either a scam or a bunch here will wish they had beat you to it. As stated above, somebody has to see and touch it before spending much. If you can't find a friend to see it, you could check a nearby shop and for a nominal sum get an inspection.
  4. Congratulations, Doctor. You have had a busy couple months. Keep driving!
  5. Actually, I got it from an individual. It was already registered as a 1965 Lotus in another state, so no problems with registration in Texas, once I got the title. I have not talked to Dick in over a year. Just have not needed any parts. He got heavily into selling Porsches, but appears to be more retired now.
  6. "...As for the Popo, Im sure I wont have too much trouble. many times a cop will pull over because he's bored and wants to oogle. "License and insurance, please." Yes sir. "Do you know why I pulled you over today" No sir. "Because you're driving a sweet ride I wish I had but wifey would rip my ass up if I bought one of those"." So true. Happened to me several times, though I have never been stopped in the Birkin. About 9 years without the front plate = no problem. If you go the Antique route, get one of those old 1996 plates. If you find one, not a set, it should be cheap cheap cheap.
  7. Scotticus, Great question that has not been brought up here before. Since Texas now has the Replica process, why not go to a friendly county tax office and try to convert to a Replica 1968 Lotus 7 title? The county will probably call TXDOT, which is easier than you dealing with them. Caterham is in fact a replica of Lotus, so no funny business. Maybe someone here has recently registered a Cat as a Replica in Texas. That would also save having to do smog test since Harris County is also EPA non-compliant. I think 1996 is still a year or two shy of being exempt? If you read the application for "Antique", it clearly says no replicas on the affidavit required. Keep us posted.
  8. I have to wonder how much the original owner could have paid to keep the "salvage". We did that once and it was a good deal. Anyway, it's great to see someone get a sweet deal. Happy New Year indeed.
  9. Wonderful. Since you said the AC works, that means the engine runs! Congratulations. For any nonbelievers in an open car with AC, I can say it can work. I once drove an Aurora in Texas heat and with an upright windshield (like a 7), the AC could be felt. All about the vents and blower I guess. Maybe I'll go soft with the Birkin.
  10. Wonderful story. Hope the restoration goes as smoothly as possible.
  11. If anyone is looking for a parts car, here's s Midget with wire wheels: https://www.crankyape.com/default.asp?pg=DispSingleItem&ItemNumber=108798 sale may end tomorrow?
  12. That's an interesting website. Thanks for posting it.
  13. Re: No Reserve: 1991 Rotus Super 7 for sale on BaT Auctions - ending December 15 (Lot #61,588) | Bring a Trailer If they don't start bidding soon, someone is going to get a heck of a deal. Apparently folks don't care for rotaries much. Perfect power to light weight on that engine for a Seven, but some people can't get with the sound? At this rate, it's still cheap enough to make an engine swap feasible.
  14. We can all be glad you were not worse off. Looks like the cage did its job. Get well over a slow season.
  15. Congratulations on the new toy. Depending how much driving you do, octane booster may be cheaper that messing with the engine. I ran booster for a few years on an old L89 (435 hp) Vette and never had any trouble.
  16. Thanks for posting, Doctor. We always enjoy the photos and 120k is a nice accomplishment.
  17. You can search for Speedometer Correction Box. Here's one example: https://speedometercablesusa.com/gear_box_adapters.html Back in the day, these things were used a lot for calibrating odos for rally. Don't remember the brand we used. Pretty crucial if the navigator gets "lost" in a stage.
  18. Just remember, the answer is always MIATA! Search for Spec Miata Seats and you will faind a bunch from many suppliers, reasonably priced. As little as 15" wide?
  19. Best of luck for a great Sunday morning drive. I just love some of the details, from the little fan blades to the sparking plug boots, and that nice battery cage. Sweet job.
  20. Last registered in 1977. Well before any of the replica / air cars became a thing. Major job though. Numbers? Title? A lot left unsaid. What say the experts?
  21. My word! How many ponies power thee all alloy car? How do you manage? Great photos.
