  1. I totally agree. Sevens are 30 minute juant cars. Longer than that requires a special dedication. I quit motorcycles. I found them too uncomfortable. Too hot if properly suited up, too windy and vulnerable if riding in casual clothes.
  2. is the air intake pulled from within the scuttle or foot wells? I have often thought of trying to use footwell air for intake as ir would help with part of the heat issue. Unwanted side effect is dirt is drawn there too.

  5. I took a chance on a vintage Formula Ford dry sump I got for a decent price. It needs work so I'm cleaning it up in a rust bath. All done Now its off to get it beat back into shape.
  6. Got this in today from Pierce Manifolds. This is called a "pressure regulator", but based on the function description, I suspect its more of a flow stabilizer. The benefit appears to be that rapid fuel pressure oscillations from engine rev changes are buffered to reduce hammering on the float and needle valve. I don't know if that is a problem typical of low pressure mechanical fuel pumps. Anything that helps keep my float in check is a good thing. What I found stonking impressive is the frameable pincil art on the back of the paper. They don't make stuff like this anymore.
  7. one of the complaints I read about the electronic hall efect dizzys, like the Aldon, is that the rotor can stop at a trigger position thus sending a continuous charge to the coil, until the engine is turned. Is this a situation a mechanical points can have also?
  8. My sluthing today pretty much confirmed that the Aldon and Petronix "are" the same company. Same tech, same failures. Still looking into it. Still very interested in learning my way around a points dizzy. It just seems like it's something a guy should be able to do. So, what's your dwell angle?

  10. Im wondering if the Aldon I have now will play well with a downdraught carb? Perhaps the Aldon is something I should try before committing to a vac dizzy?
  11. I will be starting from scratch on sourcing an Xflow dizzy. Lucas and Bosch seem to be most common. And one might think between the two, the Prince of Darkness would get the pass, but then maybe not. I now have to take Dizzy 101 and see what the Formula Ford and Escort boys are using. Im already setting rocker gaps I might as well set points gaps too. I will have a E-bomb proof car for sure.
  12. Steve, youre about to make me a points man. I'll never touch a data cable again.🤓 My last laptop was 2004. But youre right, separating ignition curve from actual curve can be problematic. Someone has the clever idea of relocating the condenser back to the scuttle for swapping out different values.
  13. Steve, sage dizzy advice that will gi into my dizzy notes. But looking for the context here...🤔 Are you saying that I need to go back to points & vac with this carb? My current dizzy is an Aldon setup for DCOE 40s and A2 cam, no vac. A detail I hadn't noticed till now, the manifold the carb was attached to, for a Cortina GT/E, doesn't have a vacuum nipple, or an obvious port on the carb. 🧐
  14. Yea you're right. the jetting is based on the chokes in place and working. If Im a carb guru swapping tubes and jets, etc, I could dial it in. Which I still may need to do with my A2 cam profile.

  16. I don't know if it would ever happen, but were I in this situation I would be wondering if a moving of operations from Kent to an Asian location would be happening. And hoping my car got out before the exodus. If I were an executive at VT holdings, that would be the plan.

  19. I get cost. For me, protection from a pouring is well worth $300. Im thinking that something that does the same job, or can be fashioned into, can be made much cheaper. The cheapest thing I know is painters drop sheeting for coverage of floors. If I could find the right adhesive, I could easily fab up a perfectly fitted cover. Materials costs would be under $10.

  21. Rule #1: I am cheap. Rule #2: You are cheap. Now that's out of the way, how can I make a thin, stowable, plastic rain cover that I can draw taught enough to not allow water to pool? And cheap enough to dispose of without too great a loss? Typical S3 size box is 12x5x4
  22. I would use them for long term storage with wheels off. Or a long body project. But not for wrenching on. I would have all 4 stands connected.

If you read Jake Lamont's book, How To Build And Maintain (yet legal) Formula Ford Ford 1600 Engines, [available from Pegasus Racing] Jake's first advice on the preparation of these carbs as found on page 75: "The first order of business is to remove all of the choke plates and actuating mechanism and toss them in the trash." I realize this advice is for race car prep, but could it apply to me as well? Hmmmm🤔
  24. The carb was purchased on Fleabay. All the screw heads are perfect. I don't see any signs of previous work. I don't see any visual evidence of shaft bearings or bushings. There aren't any on the diagram. This 32/32 is a late 60s carb that lasted until the introduction of the 32/36 progressive which has shaft retaining bushes on both throttle shafts that bush the shafts in the housing. I think they are plastic.
