Cueball1 Posted February 20 Posted February 20 He's the real estate agent who listed the house I bought. He likes to use his cars in the photo shoots of his listings. The Delorean behind it was the one used for experior shots of my house. I've seen other listings of his using the Birkin. Definitely looks like a great asking price! I'm in the area if people out of the area want someone to take a look at it. I'm relatively new to 7s, have had my birkin about a year and a half now, but happy to give it a look if someone desires. 1

Damn- that was a steal! Looks like a nice car that needs a little TLC. Marked pending already. I'd have jumped on that in a heartbeat... if it weren't literally on the complete opposite side of the country.

Just to be sure I went to the Caterham configurator. Made it to $50K on a 420R.
CBuff Posted February 25 Posted February 25 My 2023 caterham 420 was well north of 50k when it was all said and done. Not 90k but closer to that than 50. 1
JohnCh Posted February 25 Posted February 25 A no-options 420S S3 is 42k GBP which is $53k at current exchange rates before you factor in shipping. In my case, that added $8k to the bill. Unless those prices have dropped considerably, even a stripper 420 is a $60k car delivered to the West Coast. Option up a 420R SV and it's not hard to cross into new Porsche Cayman territory. Things have changed.

JohnCh Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Ignoring whether or not a new Caterham is worth the money at current prices, they are sufficiently expensive that a number of alternatives suddenly become realistic options for buyers. I'm curious if the really long waiting list is still a thing? I waited over 17 months after placing an order in 2021, but there have been at least two significant price increases since. 2

There aren't many cars that compete at 70k. Porsches are a dime a dozen. Good cars but zero emotion for me. Rules out 911 and cayman etc. Newer car? Probably an elise/exige. Miata? Ultima Evo? Maybe an old mustang? They've always been on the list. I think 1930s-1950s European cars will fall a bit in the future, perhaps there's something exciting there.

I waited over 17 months after placing an order in 2021, but there have been at least two significant price increases since. I checked recently. If you place an order today then your production slot could be as early as April. That means shipping no later than June. The long waiting lists have disappeared. Partly this is the price rises dampening demand but more importantly, the new factory has significantly upped production capacity. 1 5
11Budlite Posted February 25 Posted February 25 I also looked into what a new 420R kit would go for in the US, not cheap. Nice that the production capacity has increased, but that new factory has to be paid for too....

wemtd Posted February 25 Posted February 25 “seats with heated padding” ?!? Does it also come with cup holders for my latte? 1
jbcollier Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Sounds ok to me. Below -10°C, I wear a heated motorcycle vest. 2
theDreamer Posted February 25 Posted February 25 I’ve become addicted to the heated seats and steering wheel in the wife’s Crosstrek with these -20c temps this winter. I’d never dream of taking my Caterham out in -10c temps but +7c yes. However, wind chill can make my hands feel like ice cubes so I’ve been looking into battery powered winter cycling gloves. A pair of soft buckskin or Kangaroo hide driving gloves may be all I need for those few early spring or late fall drives though. 1

Three months a yeah are pretty rough around here. I also have a cupholder for my latte. Most types of cups do not handle the turbulence
