The Regular Summary of Classified Ads of Se7ens Found For Sale

Unless someone had rear fenders made from aluminum, your car should have either fiberglass or carbon fiber front and rear fenders. Pretty sure CSRs had the latter, but someone with more knowledge can correct me if that's wrong. I'm an advocate of bright colors in a se7en to help them stand out to other drivers, so would definitely prefer the blue to the current config, but not everyone is as paranoid as me about that :-)

Safety. I think all of us have had our brushes with people who simply didn't see the car because it's so low and small. Best advice is to drive defensively aggressive; assume all other drivers are either playing Pokemon Go or holding a mocha soy latte in one hand while texting with the other, and then use the car's power and agility to keep you out of their way. it's similar to riding a motorcycle, except there's no danger of tipping over at a stoplight.

good point! never driven a caterham, i hadn't even considered that.

being on a motorcycle for the last 25 years has given me a good insight.. but never even considered that might be an issue with driving a caterham. thanks for the info.

In terms of "vehicular conspicuity", if you are not WAY behind a large pickup truck or SUV at a stop light or stop sign so they can see you in their mirrors clearly and they decide to back up and move over to another lane, you can imagine the driver of said trucks/cars commenting "Did I just run over a large beer can?" :leaving: .

That's good advice for a highly collectable car or one that is sure to obtain such status down the road. For a Caterham? That seems like wishful thinking. IMHO ...

I totally agree. Do what pleases you. I knew a guy with a BROWN 289 Cobra, its original color. Could not sell it, Could not sell it, Could not sell it. Sprayed it RED, raised the price $20K (in 1980s), sold immediately. Some cars, Cobras, GT-350s, Panteras have only gotten to the point that people worry about all original details in the last decade, after being almost 50 years old, even though very popular. 10 years ago, I do not think any Panteras had their luggage trays left. If one ran, it had been rewired in the US...

As Ricky said, "You can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself."

Just MHO,

Mark

I try to stick to 2 lane roads, the twister the better. It required any driver to pay more attention to what they are doing.

I’m all in on having Mike Wazowski hanging in the grill and pushing wind. I should do that with Suave. :jester:

I purchased the Caterham BD that was on Kim Baker’s site thanks to your list. I will note that the Super 7 S2 project at Gullwing was sold several months ago, Hemmings just takes awhile to update.

It was my dad’s dream to have a BDA powered 7 for many decades and I made that come true yesterday for him...at least until I eventually come home to collect it. Anyone have tonneau cover or any sort of weather gear available? Thanks again

Congratulations on your Caterham purchase! I saw the ad was no longer coming up this morning. I guessed the Gullwing car may have gone but it still comes up with live ads. Thanks for correcting me.

For weather protection, I would just order a regular storm car cover with straps to stop it blowing away, from Amazon until you return. They can deliver to where the car is located.

I am considering that Birkin in Canada. Can anyone comment on what is involved in bringing it into the US? I know what my challenges are to register it in MA where I live, but a quick Google search told me that it may not be possible to get this car into the US, due to EPA rules? Can anyone enlighten me?

As I understand it, if the car is 25 years old or older there are no (or a lot less) problems with bring a car in to the USA. EPA and vehicle safety rules are the barriers to bring in complete cars that are newer.

Thanks coffee break. That's what I concluded when I Googled. Anyone else? That Birkin is just what I've been looking for - Birkin with a 2.0 Duratec. Seems nuts that I can't get it into the US, considering that I could build the same car here.

You could bring it over, but not in one piece and it would have get registered as new.

If you could take the motor out prior to transport, you wouldn't be transferring a car. But you would have an uphill battle registering it in MA as you would have to register as a brand new build kit car instead of original year Birkin.

In the mid-2000's I built and registered a Cat in Canada from a kit. Five years later I moved to USA, and the EPA wouldn't let me bring it in. I used that exact "I can build the identical car down there" argument, and their answer was "well, do that then". ugh.

Once the parts are assembled and registered as a car anywhere, it's a car forever and the EPA & NHTSA won't let it in for 25 years. The same situation for people who want to bring in non-compliant cars from any foreign country.
