  1. I have a little wear on my Caterham front suspension. The mechanic I have taken it to indicates the front bushings need to be reamed after installation. The spindles are Triumph Spitfire. To my knowledge they are the same for many years of production. I hope others will reply to add to or correct this info. PS So far the front end has not been reworked, my mechanic didn't seem very concerned about it.
  2. Now that's lowering the CG!
  3. "It depends" is a valid answer. I have designed dip brazed aluminum assemblies using 6061 alloy. The process involves dipping the fixture parts in a molten salt bath at 1100F then the assembly is removed and air cooled. After inspection the assembly is heat treated at 350F for a number of hours (4 to 6). This hardens the alloy to the original T6 condition. Since someone doing power coating may not be an expert on aluminum alloy identification, not doing structural/safety related items is a CYA thing.
  4. I understand 14's have limited options compared to 13's and 15's
  5. FWIW On Motorweek/PBS there was a report on peelable auto finish. I'm sure there are some $$ involved. http://www.motorweek.org/features/over_the_edge/peelable-paint
  6. Old school guy with clams, I resemble that remark.
  7. Ya gotta love good timing. The shirts arrived 2-14, one for the wife and one for me.
  8. Help! Skip we need something to laugh at that doesn't tweet. :puke:
  9. I'm looking for rear brake drums for my 7. The axle is off a Austin Marina '73 or '74 as far as US parts go. The drums on my car are at or near the limit. Any suggestions on where to find new drums? I've checked Rock Auto already. Thanks y'all.
  10. I get their daily emails. Today's is a Mini, so I doubled up with the 7 and Mini T's since my wife's car is a Mini. I couldn't resist.
  11. I would guess the present owner knows the car well enough to say it isn't a good idea. Any number of systems may need some sort of service before an extended trip considering the age of the car. +25 years old
  12. It is a kit out of Japan that someone posted on the forum about 2 years ago. It is a body and chassis(including motor!) with no electronics.
  13. I also received and built the Lego 7. I don't mind RHD since my 1:1 version is that. Now I need to get back to the RC version, which is also RHD. I guess they all will have to go through the "DRIVE THRU" backwards. :smilielol5:
  14. With the exchange rate looking good I'm thinking (again) about going to ITB's. I would like to go sequential but how to rig up a cam position input on a xflow. (yes, I am nutz)
  15. I had a hint. It had CONDOR on the back between the tail lights. From the digging I've found they were produced for 3 years in the early 1960's. Made from Alfa running gear and such.
  16. Our walking the dogs Thursday and a CONDOR drove by. I first thought it was VW bug kit but the engine sound wasn't a flat 4. https://www.google.com/search?q=condor+car+alfa+romeo&biw=1366&bih=649&tbm=isch&imgil=y1PE9MvsdA6xRM%253A%253BrbzS5NpyUuv2wM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fwww.car137.com%25252F2010%25252F05%25252F1964-aguzzoli-condor.html&source=iu&pf=m&fir=y1PE9MvsdA6xRM%253A%252CrbzS5NpyUuv2wM%252C_&usg=__BRO1sjpP7O8fY9TOgjsCbPaky18%3D&dpr=1&ved=0ahUKEwiUi8vj2sTQAhWIOiYKHawkCYsQyjcIJg&ei=CZo4WNTiO4j1mAGsyaTYCA#imgrc=y1PE9MvsdA6xRM%3A
  17. I can manage in my S3 with size 10s but driving shoes make things easier.
  18. Chris, You have found a good place to ask question about being a 7 head. Let us know where you are located and I'm sure you will find some cars to look at in person. You are very correct. Driving a 7 strips away anything that is unnecessary and it is all sensory overload in the best way. Go for it! Carl
  19. Ah, you drank the cool-aid. Now that you're hooked it's discovery time, all the unique aspects of having a 7. I have found that not all gas pumps behave the same. Some operate at higher flow rates than others. Visit different stations and find ones that work better than others. Also, tie wraps and some flexible material on the gas pedal may be a short term fix. Welcome to the asylum!:hurray:
  20. I'm a fan of DOT 5. I used it in a '80 Dodge Colt and had no brake system issues for 16 years. I would be using it now but it is not compatible with ABS. As long as the hydraulic system is in good condition it shouldn't be a problem, BUT make sure the seal materials are compatible with DOT 5 fluid.
  21. In my observations from a distance, the temp sensor input seems to be a common theme. If you could control the temp sensor environment independent of the motor it may help isolate the issue. For example, remove the sensor and plug its location. Start the motor and heat the sensor with a heat gun/blow dryer and look at the response. Off the wall can't hurt.:banghead: Good luck!
  22. Nothing like a car you can hammer around in and not having to be going 150mph. :driving:
