  1. When I was in my hunt for a 7, I was asked this thought provoking question. Which do you want to do more, build or drive? My answer was drive.
  2. I've been looking at this type of 4 point set-up. I'm interested what others think about these. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/motorsport/seats-interior/willans-supersport-4x4-caterham-harness
  3. About RHD, since I've been driving my RHD crossflow, it is different. A drive-thru or toll plaza present issues, but I'll save those for "normal" driving. As to sight lines, with my butt so close to the pavement, I find that more of an adjustment. All these challenges come about in populated areas, the most fun is two lane roads in the boonies!
  4. My xflow has a solid state electric fuel pump and a pressure regulator set @ 2psi. I'm the 4th owner, so I do not know if this is the original set-up, but it is doing the job. I don't know if this works at 100F ambient, that's above my operating temp.
  5. I enjoy seeing the smiles and "love your car". I know it's the car, but I'm the lucky guy who gets to drive it! :hurray:
  6. I'm looking at some items I will be ordering from a UK vendor. Good news is no VAT, but I expect there will be an import duty. What's the going rate and how is it collected?
  7. Merry Christmas to ALL and I hope the weekends' weather storms did not treat y'all badly.
  8. In things like this, my mind goes to the worst outcome. - Oil analysis, didn't think about that. Test kit requested. - Some extra oil in the pan. I'm planning on looking at the bearings (one at a time), the question may be "what is the difference between normal wear and starvation damage?" Thanks for the input.
  9. I was moving my 7 from the garage to the workshop and took a few laps around my private road course and experienced a temporary loss of oil pressure. The motor stalled, it re-fired and I made a few more laps and noticed the pressure dropped to 0 bar but it returned to 5 bar. I then drove to the workshop and parked the car. It seemed to run normally and no knocking sounds were noticed. I checked the oil level and it was low but did wet the dipstick. Now, some detail and explanation... My workshop is behind the house and there is a loop in front of the house. The loop is roughly a 70 ft dia circle (half is round and it tightens up as it meets the main slab). So, to my question(s) Did I hurt the rod and main bearings? How can I examine the motor for signs of damage? I can get the car in the air and remove the pan. Should I remove bearing caps and look at the surfaces? BTW I was moving the car to the shop since I will not be able to drive it until mid-February. I have a bandage on my clutch foot the size of a ski boot. It will come off and be replaced by a plastic boot.
  10. I saw a BBC Top Gear episode where they were dashing around in a Reliant and repeatedly rolled it on its' side at roundabouts. :banghead:
  11. At one time in this country, one could agree to disagree. Unfortunately, public discourse has lost its' bladder control. The middle ground has turned into scorched earth. I guess it's hard to escape people how have not progressed beyond the school yard. Mandela presented an example on how to move forward in spite of what has gone before.
  12. Chapman liked lightness but he also considered costliness. It occurs to me the drive train has the heaviest items. Loosing weight in these would have a bigger weight saving. Now if we drivers could loose some mass....
  13. There is an old joke that can poke fun at literal interpretation. A preacher was asked why he would never fly on an airplane. He said " In the good book the Lord said 'I will be with you lo...' " Many ancient cultures relied on oral means to pass down history, and other stories that explained who the were. The books of the Bible were written sometimes hundreds of years after the stories were originally spoken. Many people and purposes over time shaped the book referred to as the Bible. The books contained in it were set somewhere around the 2nd or 3rd century AD or CE. The original text were written in Aramaic or Greek, what we read was translated and interpreted from there. If you are looking for clear direction on how to live, it's clear as mud! I find that KISS works for me.
  14. Biblical context is important. What was spoken thousands of years ago were for a was for the people of that time. Man is no smarter today than in times past. We have advanced technology to expand our knowledge, but our ability to be stupid is also keeping pace.
  15. I used the U-Haul car trailer to pick up my Caterham. I don't recall exactly what I inputted in the on-line reservation. I may have listed something like a MGB. We were using a F150 as the tow.
  16. Next to hydrogen, stupid is the most common element in the universe.
  17. "1) WEAR ALL YOUR BELTS AT ALL TIMES (hopefully you have 5 point harness)" I know the sub-belt is to keep the other 4 properly located. Where would I attach the fifth point? I have a 4 point harness system on my '95 Caterham.
  18. I asked a retired doctor I know about this (ACA). Even though he is "retired" he volunteers at a clinic for the uninsured. He is not a fan of the president or the ACA. So I asked him, what country has a good health care system. In his opinion there isn't one. Any country that has a single system rations health care. There are more MRI machined in New York City than all of Canada. It's something like "democracy is a lousy form of government, but there is nothing better" Nothing simple about it, is there.
