  1. Carl is correct, reading plugs is a black art. Reading old plugs is just about impossible. Drag racing is just about the only sport were plug reading is used, but they shut the engine down at full throttle and coast into the return lane. You can tell general engine health, burning oil, coolant that sort of thing. If you want to know how your jetting is install a wide band sensor, you will learn more in one drive around the block that you will spending weeks swapping jets. Gunson (the ColourTune people) used to make a self contained unit that you could plug into a power source and put a flexy hose in the exhaust pipe, worked great. Graham

  8. If you have an OBD 2 port you can data log, I use a OBDLink MX+ Blue tooth adapter. It syncs up well with the https://racechrono.com/ app I use. You will be able to log all the OBD parameters, not everything, but a lot of interesting stuff. Engine temp, throttle position, coolant temp, IAT, speed... Graham
  9. That looks like a great package, a lot more than a MegaJolt style setup that really only replaces your distributor. This setup is a full engine management setup just without the fuel injection. Anything you can to to get rid of a distributor is good. Graham
  10. I ran a MegaJolt on a V8. Simple setup using loss spark Ford EDIS coils. Simple to wire and setup, and removed the distributor. A win win. Graham
  11. I have never heard of Methanol/water injection as a strategy to lower engine temp. Its goal is to reduce inlet air temp, boost octane and reduce detonation. Often used as a replacement for a an intercooler. For more information https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_injection_(engine) Graham
  12. It's going to be an expensive exercise for a situation you think might happen. You will need a fully E85 compatible fuel system, a E85 programmable ECU, most people use the GM Flex Fuel sensor.   13. Beware E85 is not available everywhere, Here in MD I have never seen an E85 pump. I was at a track day I think VIR and the guys had to bring all there gas with them for the entire weekend. Maryland only has 7 station, VA only has one in the state! Graham

  18. as I think someone said of your fuel pump was under peforming your run would lean out during the run, your afr stays pretty stable, so I think your just running lean. A plug chop with old already colored old plugs may not tell you what you want to know. Graham
  19. A miata is a computer controlled engine, so yes you will need the ecu and necessary electronics. If you swap to a megasquirt you can delete the mass airflow sensor. Graham
  20. escondidoron in correct, Hydraulics can are counter intuitive. It all about areas not diameter's. If you have a master cylinder that has a 1 Square Inch piston and you apply 100 pounds pressure to the pedal your hydraulic system is pressurized to 100psi. So if the area of the caliper pistons pressing on the pads is 2 Square Inch you have 200 pounds pressure at the pads. If you put in a larger master cylinder lets say 2 Square Inch but you still have the same 100 pounds pressure on the pedal you now only have 50psi in your system, with the same 2 square inch caliper pistons you only have 100psi at the pads. You have just halved your braking pressure. But your pedal will feel a lot firmer as it will take 1/2 the pedal travel to move the pads the same amount. Graham

If you have the a-arms parallel the wheel move directly up and down, the camber will remain the same, that is very bad, because as the chassis rolls in the turns you will get increasing positive camber, not good. So you want the upper control arm lower by the chassis, that will increase the negative camber as the wheel moves up. That will increase in the positive camber that will be offset by the chassis rolling. So if the angles are correct you will still have negative camber throughout the corner. Graham
  23. The new track focused Birkin Tom was driving at NJMP 2020 was a stunning looking car. Inboard shock and a very neat inboard anti roll bar setup. I loved the one piece hood that went right up to the dash so all the elecrickery was easy to work on. Graham
