Croc
Croc: ban politics? So what are you going to do with all of the "Trump 2020 MAGA" stickers you were going to put on my car at the USA7s meet up in NJ this Oct:)? And I assume Tom (Yellow SS7) gets an exemption, by virtue of his age, seniority, geniality, and basic incorrigibility:)? Don’t have any Trump 2020 stickers. I never felt the need to wind you up on politics as I thought you were fairly balanced in your views. Left wing but not completely loony. By contrast, Tom never got a free pass. I think you recall several years of Hillary for President stickers that accidentally fell on his car at the NJMP sevens event, so securely they remained on at 80mph as he went down the Lightning circuit straight at top speed. Some of those were chosen to provide maximum provocation for Tom and maximum smirk for the rest of us. He may be a right wing redneck but I give him big kudos for being a very good sport. I owe him drinks for that. The sticker I was going to put on your Caterham was “Stay back 100 Feet. Vehicle frequently spins and stops”
scannon
I bought an '85 944 in '87. I went to a PCA club meeting. Everyone was pleasant until they asked me what Porsche I owned. To a man (or woman) they immediately turned and walked away without saying another word when I said I owned a 944. Every Fing one of them. I left early and never went back. I had to restrain myself in the parking lot, have you ever seen what a good solid heel kick does to a 911 Porsche door?
papak
I had the opposite experience. A friend let me drive his 911SC at a drivers ed at Lime Rock. In short order, I found a very nice 944 that had been gone through by a local restoration shop. This took me through a number of DEs and on to PCA Club Racing. With that car, I got to drive most of the courses on the East Coast. I eventually brought the car with me to California and competed with and instructed for POC for several more years. I finally sold it when I couldn’t get any more out of it. I ended up buying, restoring and racing the vintage Formula Vee that I couldn’t afford 50 years ago. Now I’m having a ball with he Birkin. I’ve loved every bloody-nuckled minute of it.
Certified Lotus
I ran with the Shattenbaum PCA chapter for 9 years and participated in almost every track event they held (advancing from green to the ultimate Red run group). Although I owned a Porsche 911 (997 C4S) I mainly used my Lotus Exige S for their track events. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I never felt like an outsider. Yes, I’m still lurking on your site. One day I’ll own a 7 .......... Edited July 8, 2020 by Certified Lotus

Croc
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1993-caterham-hpc-super-seven/ What is the significance of "Wide Track Front Suspension"? Its an upgrade kit which essentially added new front wishbones and a different antiroll bar to your Caterham. Here it is here https://www.demon-tweeks.com/us/caterham-widetrack-front-suspension-kit-241883/ A wider front wheel stance should make the car feel more planted with better turn in. The real question is whether you can feel it or not. Some people can and some people cannot. Personally, I never noticed it in the many Caterham drives on road over the years or all models. However, I did notice the difference between the S3 and SV chassis' on track - the SV is a wider front track than the S3. My conclusion on the wide track kit is that it is an upgrade that really is only noticeable on track. Interestingly, I cannot tell if that Bringatrailer car actually has wide track - not enough photos. The only way to tell is the spring end of the front shock has a metal extension piece to extend the shock to allow for the wider track. ...and does it mean that you can't put Clamshell fenders on the car? You can put clamshells on the car. Tom (Yellowss7) has a S3 with clams and widetrack.

JohnCh
I'm curious, does the Caterham wide track allow for a tighter turning radius? On Westfields (or at least the older ones) with the standard track, the rack is fitted lock stops to prevent the cycle wings hitting the body on full lock. This results in a rather large, SUV-like turning radius. With the wide track option, no lock stops are necessary, thus the turning radius is more in line with the car's size. -John
Croc
Did you just equate a Westfield with an SUV?
JohnCh
With the original car, I'll never forget the first time I attempted a U-turn on a residential street. The question WTF went through my mind several times. The wide track fixed that, and the LSD made even that change superfluous. Just crank the wheel over hard and hammer it -John

KnifeySpoony
My understanding is that all cars after a certain year are wide track (not sure what year the change happened).

Kitcat
My former Caterham, listed at the very bottom of Croc's Canadian group, has a price this week. Translating Canadian $ to U.S. $, the price is roughly $29K. Might be worth it in today's market. I sold it for $21.5K, I think. Also the new Hemmings 1.6 Cat is being offered by a apparently new authorized dealer in Daytona Beach Fl. They are only showing artist's renderings of the car,so seems like it has not been assembled. Looks like same spec as the Beachman SV with a 1.6 Sigma power (but at least $10K more....).

DatsunRBZ
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...m-super-seven/ I haven't heard much talk on this car and not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing. Seller says the spec of this car is closer to an R400 which I would agree with based on the power output but it seems to have the creature comforts of the road sport and less of the carbon bits I typically see on the track oriented versions. Any idea what spec this car actually is or equivalent to in today's line up? Does anything seem out of place or raise any flags with this car? Anyone personally know the history of this car? Sorry for all the newbie questions, but I am trying to make a halfway responsible purchase or as much as one can without personally seeing the car haha. Nonetheless, this is a killer looking car in my opinion. Thanks for the insight.
S1Steve
RBZ, I think it looks like great 7, low miles, good spec . If I thought I needed another one, this one would get a closer look. By that I mean I’d be off to Florida to inspect , drive, and my big question would be who built it. But maybe I missed that . Good Luck in your journey..
