Is it just the 7 cardioversions I had this week that is affecting my judgement or is almost $50K a bit much for a Lotus 7??? Tom

No amount of cardio will ever fix your judgment! It just so happens that the seven is overpriced too! :seeya:

Is it me or do those clams look way out of place. Looks like their way to high.

It looks that way to me also. But I wonder about the springs, they may be lower rated because there looks like a lot of air above the rears also and when it has occupants it looks "better". Or my car is just lower than that one.

If you have the money and are serious about buying a car from him and want to fly me to wherever his store is, I'd love to take a crack at him. Besides my own cars (355 so far) I do a lot of checking out and negotiating for friends and club members.

I once kept a dealer open until 10:30 PM on New Years Eve negotiating on a new Nissan pickup. I walked away three times and they followed me to my car. We were way below invoice plus dealer hold backs and rebates by the time we made the deal. I'm reasonably sure they lost money on the deal but they wanted one more deal before the end of the year. New Years Eve is the absolute best day to negotiate with a dealer.

Here is a link to something I wrote years ago for the Miata.net forum on how to deal with dealers, it is a little out of date because it was written before internet buying of cars had really started:

http://wiki.miata.net/tiki-index.php?page=How%20to%20Negotiate%20the%20Best%20Deal%20on%20a%20Car

Not sure if you can get to it without signing in on Wiki.

This was a very good show on a car dealership in New Jersey, and all they would go through in order to meet the numbers they'd need. Car dealer is something you're born with or without. Entertaining for anyone who has sat through a morning sales beating on the showroom floor....

So its early Saturday morning and it is too early to head to the local Home Despot for some waterproof tile grout for my Saturday morning job around the home. So I will car hunt. As usual I have no affiliation or connection with these cars and are reposting for the benefit of the Saturday morning coffee club to debate what cars are on offer. This is also not a complete list - I miss things and I deliberately filter out those sellers where I have concerns.

Ebay has a Birkin and its not the handbag type. 2L Duratec, IRS, in all black with silver stripe. 2013 chassis. Repeat visitor to this thread from the Land Rover South Carolina dealership. Mr Mustang is virtually next door and will happily test drive it for you! Past listings on this thread seem to show that the seller is looking for around $37-39k (Edited to add Hemmings has this car listed at $37990). Whether he gets it is another story. It is a 2013 chassis so virtually new and new cars are well up the $40s range so maybe this could work for someone.... Titled as a 1967 Lotus 7.

Starting bid is $34900

Pinball king's Westfield Seight for sale at $24000 in NY state just north of NYC. This has the Rover V8 which will put hair on your chest. His pre-lit Westfield is lurking in the background of the photos which is another reason to check out this ad.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/wch/cto/4792674809.html

The newish upper Michigan Locost 7 with a 351 windsor is still around at $7499 which looks reasonable when you look at the chassis roller after this ad:

http://up.craigslist.org/cto/4761400844.html

The Lotus 7 clone supposedly from a museum that was run down to a bare chassis and then restored to a bare chassis roller is back and asking $5450 in Huntsville Alabama.

http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/4780064928.html

Not much coming up for sale today - I guess that means winter has hit and everyone is hunkering down? :willy_nilly:

EDITED TO ADD

Oops spoke too soon. Some stuff appeared on Anamera.

Looks like an 80s era Caterham. Registered as as 1966 Lotus Seven. Built in the UK. Shipped to Japan and now in CA. 1600cc Kent. Looks like the 4 speed gearbox. Live axle. Nice looking car but not much detail to the ad. Asking $31500.

http://www.anamera.com/en/detail/car/310488/index.html?no_cache=1&ret=63

2002 CMC Seven. I love the ad text!

I purchased this little Lotus in 2002 from the builder, Champion Motor Cars, located in Madison, AL. It was made from the LoCost Lotus 7 Kit. It has a 1982 Corolla 1800 engine and is licensed as an '82 Toyota Corolla. The engine is freshly rebuilt within the last year and has only about 500 miles on it. The front end and suspension is from a Mazda RX-7. The car runs well and handles like a shifter cart. It is great fun to drive, but is a bare bones sports car with 5 point safety belts and removable steering wheel. The little Lotus would be great fun to auto-cross but is street legal in Alabama. Call me for a more detailed description.
Asking $13995. It is better looking than any Toyota Corolla I have known and probably drives a heck better!

The next owner is really quite talkative about selling his car. 1964 Lotus seven clone in Ontario Canada.

1964 Lotus RM Super Seven

MG Midget Running Gear

Yep that is the extent of his ad. :toetap05: Asking $12900

http://classiccars.com/listings/view/595614/1964-lotus-super-seven-for-sale-in-windsor-ontario-canada-n9g1y5

I won't repeat the F40 Motorsports listing for a Lotus Seven as that got a good discussion this week.

And I found a Caterham SV for sale in Hawaii of all places. I hate ads where the seller shouts at me in CAPS but hey ho...

1962 Lotus Seven asking $36500 in OR

http://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/carsforsale/lotus/super_seven/1684889.html

This Super Seven has been in our family since 1997. My dad bought it fully restored from John Eckhardt Jr., of Kansas, with the intention of doing some armature vintage racing, when he retired. However, because of various health reasons, my dad never really got to race, nor for that matter drive the vehicle. For much of the time, between 1997 and 2012, it was stored in a secure storage unit in Reno, NV (my dad's home town), and a few times a year it would be driven, or participate in some of the Golden Gate Lotus Club events, when they came to Reno or Tahoe Lake. In 2012, I brought the vehicle to Eugene, OR after my dad passed away. I have done a few very minor maintenance updates, and have been driving it a few days a month, when the sun is out in Eugene. Otherwise the car has been stored in a dry and climate controlled garage. It runs extremely well, and if you have ever driven a 7 before, you know how it handles – like nothing out there!

To give you an idea of what Mr. Eckhardt's rebuild philosophy was I quote from his log book:

“The rebuild philosophy behind this car was to create a very strong, reliable vintage racer with engine performance essentially identical to the original. All the internal engine work was done to provide as reliable an engine as possible; no radical, full-tilt cylinder head porting/camshaft/ carb. combination with the power band characteristics of a two-stroke.”

I have a full, very detailed rebuild manual/history of the vehicle. I have included a few pages in the photo section to give you further details. There were no corners cut; Mr. Eckhardt and the various fabricators he worked with were very meticulous with all the work done. I think you will be very impressed with how well this vehicle looks with nearly 20 years since the restoration. I have many more photos, and will be happy to answer all your questions. I hate the fact that I have to sell this piece of my family history, but I want to find a new owner that can give it the care it really needs for the next generation.

Now I am done!

Croc,

Thanks for posting. The Westfield Seight's V8 and hood scoop are going well with my morning coffee. And I really like the Marcos Mantis sitting next to the 80's era Cat (shown in a couple of photos in the add).

Mike, I hope you don't have too bad a case of 'grout' this morning. :jester:

This brought pictures in my mind of people pushing huge electric motor armatures around an autocross track. :D

I say something like that flying off the track on the back straight at Road Atlanta. It was out of a GTO class Camaro with an exploding transmission. The flywheel also exited at a great rate and fortunately missed the corner station and disappeared into the woods.

Its been listed here before - see post #319. I think it may be forum member "Joshesh" car but no one confirmed my speculation. You may get a better response to your inquiry on California Caterham Club as it is local to most of that membership.

Its 6am on a Saturday and I have actually slept in past my usual 3-4am wake up calls. Must be relaxed due to vacation starting today - off to warmer climates with no snow! :cooldude:

Plenty of cars here today for the USA7s coffee club.

Westfield are coming out of the woodwork. This one came up for sale a few years back in CT and it looks like it is still there. 1700cc crossflow engine with a T9 and 2000 odd miles. Dark green body and acres of tan pleather (polyester leather...). The owner gets huge bonus points in my eye for a ton of good photos and a reasonable detail of ad text. Registered in CT. He gets Holiday wishes for starting the bidding at $17750 (no bids) and a buy it now of $18995. Looks like he is realistically wanting a sale. There are 123 watchers so most of this forum is probably lurking over there like dog turds on a lawn.

Now here is a new seven Manufacturer - a "Berkin" Its always nice to recognize the seller who I know cannot type to save himself but is very good at finding his way around a seven - Hi Andy! :seeya: Looks like a barn find and needs a bit of fettling and work. Andy was always good about finding this stuff from nowhere and this one looks like an interesting case. Series 1 (83-85) Birkin. Toyota 4AGE with 5 speed Ford gearbox. No ignition key. Been stored for 20 years. Starting bid $8000 and buy it now $9000. I think this is a fantastic project for someone as it is all intact to work with. How many series 1 Birkin's come up for sale and the Toyota engine is well suited for the character of a seven. Anyone in Canada looking for a winter project?

Its baaaaack. The 1984 Caterham with 1800cc crossflow all red with RHD at Kampena motors. Still asking $24500.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/4804279133.html

Brand new Brunton Stalker XL for fat c$%^s like me. Advertised by Brunton Auto for $49000. Lots of nice photos to check out. The Mineharts are wonderful people to chat with.

http://tampa.craigslist.org/pnl/cto/4749957098.html

A 1962 Brunton Super Stalker that has a good looking livery. 600 miles 3.8 V6 supercharged. Comes with a Hallmark trailer as part of the deal. Asking $39500.

http://www.race-cars.com/carsales/lotus/1414030674/1414030674ss.htm

A "1967" Locost Seven (CMC chassis?) that is close to finished according to the ad. Located in Atlanta it is registered in GA. 1.8L Toyota engine with 4 speed. Seller says he would trade for a Porsche 968 or a 911. Asking $12750.

http://atlanta.craigslist.org/nat/cto/4812497454.html

The 1960s clone roller seven in Huntsville Alabama is still for sale at $5450 here.

http://huntsville.craigslist.org/cto/4780064928.html

Sevenesque chassis in Sonoma CA for $1200. Obviously a Locost home build but has some interesting features in the one photo shown.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/cto/4811286333.html

A repeat visitor is this 2012 Seven Locost with 351 Windsor. A bit of extra work and it would look good. Keen pricing at $7499.

http://up.craigslist.org/cto/4761400844.html

Oh my gosh - another Hawaii seven. That makes a count of 3 in the last year for sale. This one says it is in Maui.

THE ULTAMITE SCCA TRACK CAR , NOT STREET LEGAL . THIS IS A KIT CAR. POWER BY 2009 SUZUKI HYABUSA 1540CC STROKER MOTOR , 240 HP , WEIGHT 1000 LBS. OHLINS SUSPENSION CUSTOM EVERYTHING . OVER 50,000K INVESTED. DESIGN FOR SMALLER PERSON , BUT ABLE TO MODIFY IF NEED TO. TOO MUCH STUFF TO LIST.

This is a serious looking build. Pity the photos are not better as they are definitely not showing off the car's best features. Asking $35000. You do have to ask whether you could build it for this price in Hawaii given the shipping costs to get everything local. I never knew they had SCCA bureaucracy there as well - there goes paradise I suppose!

1964 RM Super Seven in Windsor Ontario at C$12900

http://classiccars.com/listings/view/595614/1964-lotus-super-seven-for-sale-in-windsor-ontario-canada-n9g1y5

2002 CMC Seven in Montgomery Alabama. Presents well in the photos. Asking $13995

http://classiccars.com/listings/view/605738/1982-lotus-seven-for-sale-in-montgomery-alabama-36117

Early Caterham (1980s area I think). Red 1600 crossflow with 4 speed. Asking $31500.

http://www.anamera.com/en/detail/car/310488/index.html?no_cache=1&ret=63

This next one got my attention as I saw $20k for a 1969 Lotus 7. Then I looked a little closer. Its one of the original kits put together in Argentina but now in Uruguay. What a survivor! Fiat 125 engine. Despite the low price the shipping and taxes and fees back to the US may likely not be worth it along with the experts report quite possibly needed for US customs since the VIN/chassis plate is not dated with a year (ask me how I know this!).

In case you wonder how I find this stuff so easily I have been using Vintage Wheels - a new website that automatically searches all car sale websites globally for your desired models. I log on and it has already found all the ads for all the cars I am dribbling various bodily fluids with desire on. I will caution you that it is extraordinarily dangerous as a website - quite simply the worst I have ever come across as a car enthusiast. You WILL find your dream car somewhere in the world and want it and think seriously about buying it! :willy_nilly:

I would like to wish all the Seven friends and enthusiasts on this forum Happy Holidays and a great New Year for 2015!

Now that I know your secret, I do feel kind of silly for previously thinking you had a hoard of minions tasked to comb the web each night while you slept. This process seems a little more accessible -- and will give me something to do on another wet, and sadly blat free, Seattle weekend...

Croc,

Thanks. Makes the coffee good this morning. But I think your web site needs a bit of tweaking. Spell choke struck as it changed 'racing tires' to 'recycling turds'; pulled up adds for three Pintos, a Yugo and two AMC Pacers. :D :D :D

Oh I have the minions as well! Unfortunately I tend to go through them a lot - its hard to find good help that keeps their paws off my cars!

Thx Croc. I typed in Lotus Elite (an all time favorite) and found 6-7 pristine examples. None in the US, all well over $100K, but they are out there (whispering my name :) ).

Yes softly whispering in a voice uncannily like the better half "new kitchen, new kitchen" :jester:

Also try http://www.searchtempest.com It searches all of craigslist across the US.
