  1. I got my Brookland screens and a convex rear view mirror fitted and took SUPER 7 our for a short blat, including highway driving up to 90 MPH to see how tolerable/intolerable it would be. Pleasantly surprised! I made the mistake of driving through a puddle as I pulled off the road.
  2. Get the Tony Weale book "LOTUS SEVEN Restoration, Preparation, Maintenance. It has wiring diagrams. I don't know whether the diagrams in the book are copyrighted, so I cannot post them here.
  3. I didn't have trouble either. What a cool, old geezer! I loved it when he was rummaging through his boxes looking for the prop shaft!
  4. It is actually easier to remove the manifold with the carbs attached from the head. The carb to manifold nuts are very hard to get at and have to be torqued exactly right. All the manifold to head nuts can be easily accessed with a socket extension. Don't forget to partially drain the coolant!
  5. Ouch, you don't want loose pieces of metal floating around in the transmission oil. It is bound to end up in the gears or synchromesh!
  6. I drop mine down to the floor instead of trying to lift it out.
  7. Great video. A bit long, so I had to do it over 3 sittings! The last 1/3rd is race videos and can be skipped/

  9. I have wondered about that myself. It will work really well of the fill plug hole is visible from above. Then it will be easy to fill to the bottom of the plug.
  10. 23,000 miles since it was built in 1987.
  11. Great to see you here @BlokkoDid you add yourself to the maps? You may also want to check out Caterham and 7 Owners in the USA and Canada on Facebook! Anker
  12. To me it sounds like your steering rack is going bad. It is really dangerous to drive with one that can get stuck.
  13. When you cut carbon it is essential that you wear a filter that ensures you don't breathe fine carbon shards. They don't dissolve in you lungs, but wander through your body, possibly doing serious damage to your tissues. Also, you should do it in a space where there is lots of air exchange so you can be confident that when you remove the filter there are no shards floating in the air. Finally, wear gloves, because you may inadvertently push shards that settle on your hands into your skin. I still have shards that work their way out of my skin several years after I stopped working on carbon fiber!
  14. I assume it was you I heard from a day ago? I would be surprised if there were two Marks owning Caterhams in Marlborough? That would a huge coincidence! Let me know so I can update my spreadsheet properly!
  15. The voltage regulator cannot output a higher voltage than it gets from the alternator.
  16. My '87 Supersprint has been driven hard for over 20,000 miles on autocross courses where it constant brake and accelerate. It is still on its original front pad and rear shoes!
  17. Yes, that what you should expect. What wheels lock up first? It sounds like your front to back brake bias is off.
  18. You need to be careful to not obstruct too much airflow through the engine compartment and around the transmission, otherwise you will get overheating problems.
  19. Sitting in my garage now, sorry! Waiting to be installed on my Caterham. Anker
  20. That is for a set of four, with springs. Give them a call and ask what a front set will cost. Personally I would not replace a subset of shocks with a different brands. Changing brand is best done with all four at the same time.
  21. I am looking at these: https://www.nitronusa.com/buy-online/automotive/caterham/narrow-track-de-dion/narrow-track-de-dion-pre-1996---96-/caterham-narrow-track-de-dion--pre-96--ntr-r1-suspension-kit They seem to have the features I want at a reasonable price.
  22. I firmly believe that you need some anti-submarining protection in a Caterham. A standard 3 point seat belt has no such protection, nor does a 4 point harness. A 5 point harness can seriously hurt your private parts, so I went with a 6 point harness.
  23. I maintain a Google Maps map for the FB group Caterham and 7 Owners in the USA and Canada. I suggest adding the membership here to that map, which will make it more complete.
  24. Replacement masters are very inexpensive. Apparently they are used a lot on race cars and get replaced annually. Make sure you test the play in the slave correctly. Have someone step on the pedal while you look at the clutch mechanism.
  25. If you can't beat the Corvettes with that beast you need to look in the mirror for the cause! :-)
