I guess Caterham finally got around to modernizing the tail lights. I think they may have gone too modern. Your thoughts?

They are certainly thinner. I think they could have done worse. I saw the video too.

Personally I'm not sold on them.

If JAL weren't an option this would be a very reasonable alternative to the old bulb style lights.

Would be neat if they had some sort of light movement integrated into them.

Nice improvement, the standard one looks (and is) really cheap looking like it's been taken from a 1980 Ford Escort.

At least, it may be a sign of healthy economics for Caterham.  The tradition of using big OEM parts has always been a huge cost saver, so if C is able to get a design of their own for something as unimportant as lights, that is really a hopeful sign.  They must have disposable money.  I never heard anyone complain about the old units.

Hopefully they'll publish a video soon showing these in action.  The aspect I like most is the removal of the ponderous fog and reverse lights.  I wonder if this package will become standard, thus eliminating the holes for those two lights and providing a cleaner look?

Actually it came off a late 1960s era caravan.  :classic_rolleyes:

Video posted above. Even shows them in limited action towards the end.

Requires making hole bigger and two new holes.

I never hated the old lights. To me they are part of the car but I'm sure some people hated when carbon fiber dashboards got introduced as well as they weren't true to the original ethos.

I know a dealer in Europe, I believe in Germany, hated the original lights so much they refused to install them and always put in a pretty nice dual round setup.

I wouldn't be surprised if an LED solution for an inhouse light was driven by EV future. Regular lights are far too much of an electricity sink to be allowed in a production EV car.

In the close-up photo "CATERHAM" can be seen, so it must be all theirs.

Upside down on one side of course :classic_biggrin:

Is there any other manufacturer that just flips the lights on one side instead of making a new part? That's certainly true to the ethos.

Sorry @Vovchandr, I should have been clearer.  I mean a video that shows them in action on the road rather than in a brightly lit studio.

I like them. A big improvement over the standard-issue, box-o-lights that look like something found in the "Towing Accessories" section at your local auto parts store.

The look to be well made and nicely engineered in terms of packaging and wiring. They're not cheap at roughly $530 delivered to the US, but I ordered a set and look forward to installing them on my car.
