Interesting history as the kit was bought new in the UK in '98, came to the US unassembled with the original owner. Spent 12 years in storage, then current owner purchased and completed it in 2015. This for the lowest spec Cat there is (1600 cc X-Flow, 4 sp, solid rear axle, no paint, etc.). I like the car a lot, but 10 years ago you couldn't give this spec Caterham away. The R&T article on their Caterham build says 19 were sold in the U.S.A in 2019, so maybe rarity is helping? Croc Posted September 5, 2020 Author Share Posted September 5, 2020 I think the title issue on that BAT car arose when it was treated as rebuilt/salvage rather than "assembled" at first point of title after construction. Not surprising as most DMV folks struggle to work out how these fit into the rules. Then the original builder/owner corrected the title in 2010 to "assembled" just before sale as he realized the error. I suspect that the car was never truly rebuilt/salvage in the sense of being an insurance write off. It has the round top transmission tunnel, and does not have double A arm front suspension. I thought by ‘98 (or earlier actually) they had gone solely to the flat top and true double A-arms. I also wonder if it’s truly just a 1600 Xflow. It does have the Super Sprint valve cover, and the 4 into 1 exhaust. I do like the color combo.
