For a stunning moment, I thought you may have purchased my first seven from Oz but then I read you said it was "unmolested" and figured it could not be my old car as mine had a few "encounters" in some vintage races. Dad used to call it 'Elvis' because it had so many hits.

Hi all, mdork here. Cool to see this long-running thread...some members would have seen their kids grow up and graduate from university since those early posts. I'm excited to join the USA7s community, and specifically the Seattle contingent. I've ordered a 420R SV kit from Bruce @ Beachman Racing with a production date in mid-November and plans to build at home with my kids (and my pops) as a fun winter project.

 

I've been a lifelong driving enthusiast and had my first seat time in a Caterham in November 2015 for a track day at Thunderhill West thanks to a wonderful friend who offered to share seat time in his 7 for the day. It was an unforgettable experience, topped a few years later with the same friend in the same car at Laguna Seca. The purity of the 7, and the joy experienced when driving, never left the back of my mind and experiencing lightweight cars became a priority. I had the chance to own a Lotus Elise Cup 250 for a few years while living in the UK, along with a weekend hire of a SV-chassis 360R. While the Elise was incredibly competent and an instrument of precision, the weekend seat time in the 360R reminded me of the playful nature of the 7. The Elise is objectively *better*, but the Caterham is just more fun. Despite having been on "the list" for a Porsche 718 Spyder for almost 3 years, I dropped my deposit and refocused my attention to acquiring a Caterham once I returned to the US. Big thanks to Bruce @ Beachman Racing for his patience with all my questions and in securing the build slot. I will start a new thread once my kit arrives.

 

Long story longer, I am really thankful for this community of owners as I'm sure I'll be leaning on a few of you as I go through my build process. I've dropped a few photos below in an attempt to make this intro more interesting to look at. Look forward to hopefully meeting some of the Seattle folks (and beyond) once the world gets a bit more normal...

I am new to the Forum.

i am in the process of building a Birkin S3..... BIY 1902....

which fellow Birkin owners may recognize as being an OLD car...

yup... circa 2003.... 17 years old...and hasn’t been on the road yet! I am the third owner.. with each having done a little and then let it gather dust. I am at least partly responsible for that, as I have had it gathering dust for 5 years in my garage... BUT no more!.... I am now retired and essentially working on it full time.

mechanically it is pretty much together... just in the process of installing a painless wiring system to hook up all the sparky bits.

Does anyone know if Slomove still reads the forum? Or how I would get gold of him to ask him some questions about his wiring diagram? There is an anomaly between his fuse layout and his wiring diagram re headlights?

the one I am looking at is circa 2004... as the yahoo Birkin group seems to have disappeared with all knowledge gone,

I wonder if anyone has any other info with regard to this wiring?

Options are locked but I’ve ordered full weather kit plus the aero screen in the event I do more track days. In reality will be driven mostly on the street and almost never with top or doors. I think I had my top on maybe 4 times in 2 years in the U.K. so am used to cold and damp air in my face .

Hi everyone,

 

I’m new! I used to work for Caterham in the UK, left about 5 years ago now. I was one of the team that delivered the CSR to a certain British talent show contestant in Beverley Hills.

 

i am actually trying to track down that car, having now saved some cash to hopefully buy it, for me it was a project I ran from start to finish. I personally specified the car, a 2.3 cosworth CSR in metallic grey with the modular dash (best format) and I delivered the car to the owners house having organised the engineers to come over and build it. I would love to own it just as a story to tell the kids!

 

if anyone knows it’s whereabouts or anything else please get in touch. It was last sold by Hillbank in 2014 with some 75 miles on the clock.

I was a fan of Lotus from the late 60s, and purchased the last "North American" Europa while stationed in Europe. Beautiful metallic Blue, oatmeal interior, and a huge package of gold pinstriping (John Player Special Edition). However, I was returning to the Midwest, and there were only three Lotus "dealers" in the U.S. at the time; New York, Baton Rouge, and Seattle, so I decided to pass on the dream.

Fast forward 44 years, through jobs, marriage and family, and more boring cars than I can remember.

At my retirement, my amazing kids (and their equally amazing spouses) presented me with a Brunton Stalker kit for a 62 Lotus Seven using drivetrain from a Miata.

I am spending a lot of my free time working on it, and having a ball!

Plan to post some pictures, and will follow threads here to pick up tips,

What a wonderfully sparkly new forum site we have here - very impressed.  Spoke to  @Croc over the weekend and he told me about all of the good work that had been put into upgrading the site, so I just had to get over here to check it out for myself

 

Thought I'd take a moment to say hello (again) after being away from this site for some time.

 

I'm a Brit living in MA.  When I lived in the UK I had a couple of Caterhams.  First off was an ex-Academy car and then I had an SV for touring duties.  Played about with the idea of getting a 7 when I first came over to the US, but practicalities (like garage space, or lack of) and issues with getting a car titled put me off.

 

Though I don't totally rule out the prospect of owning another 7, I've been quite happy of late getting my 7 fix vicariously through the L7Club and a couple of FaceBook pages.  I'm also a member of a local group, the Arlington Classic Car Club (tag line - A group dedicated to going for a beer on Thursday nights in old cars...we have French cars....but no structure!!).  I'm encouraged by the fact that there are a few ACCC members (including @Anker) who are the proud owners of 7's and I'm really looking forward to meeting them face-to-face for the first time once all of this Covid palaver is put to rest.

 

I've joined the FB page linked to this site and I'll make sure I check in here on a more regular basis going forwards.
